neunaber admitted to killing his mother, and described how w did it. neunaber previously pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder. that all changed today.

neunaber struck his mother repeatedly in the head with a steel bar. he says his mother was conscious during the first 8 to 10 strikes. he continued to strike her over forty more times, shattering her skull and killing her. neunaber then tried to commit suicide. "and then later i took some pills with the idea we could all be ried together. obviously that did not work i am still here." neunaber pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, and an additional count of willful injury. when he's sentenced, the judge could sentence neunaber to up to 60-years in prison. he will likely also have to pay restitution of $150,000. >> neunaber said he intended to cause serious injury to his mother, and that his actions were intentional. and, prior to hehedeath, he had considered several other methods

thanks for the update, tommie. this case began nearly two years ago. ktiv's robert lowe takes a look back on the murder, the hunt for a killer, and the search for justice. july 9th, 20-14 started off as a normal summer day near akron, iowa. but, what happened inside the neunaber home was anything but ordinary-- for the quiet northwest iowa town. as the plymouth county sheriff investigated the property, they discovered the bodies of two people inside the home. eventually an autopsy revealed jonathan neunaber's father, 83 year-old donald neunaber, had died of natural causes. but, his mother, 80 year-old esther neunaber had been brutally beaten inside the farm home. at first, police were unable to find jonathan neunbaer, who authorities says was a "person of interest." but, the very next day he was located by police in la crosse, wisconsin. after he was extradited back to iowa, he was eventually charged with first-degree murder. in august

charged with two counts attempted murder. mothershed is also charged with five counts of first-degree robbery in incidents dating back to december 7th, 2015. a 90-year-old norfolk, nebraska woman has died of injuries she suffered in a car accident last week. marilee thorburn died at an omaha hospital on friday from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash last tuesday police. intersection of queen city police say say thornburn's car was struck in the intersection by a car driven by 21-year old dino alai of norfolk. thornburn was not wearing a seatbelt. a laurens, iowa man accused of leading police on a high-speed chase around spencer, iowa faces a long list of charges. spencer police say they pulled 31-year old blaine stockwell over for a seatbelt violation sunday afternoon. as the officer approached stockwell's pickup, police say he fled the scene. police say stockwell led officers on a pursuit through south spenceand eventually out into the county, where speeds topped 90 miles per hour. when the pickup went into a ditch, stockwell was quickly apprehended.

including eluding, driving while barred, driving while revoked, driving while suspended and driving while cancelled, along with possession of meth. south dakota governor dennis daugaard has until tomorrow to decide whether to sign, or veto, a bill that would require transgender students to use bathrooms and locker rooms that correspond to their biological sex at birth... rather than their gender identity. ktiv's michelle schoening spoke to parents about their reaction to the bill. michelle, what parents worried about? matt... most parents i spoke to are indifferent when it comes to the bill. but, they say having exposure to the opposite sex, at a young age, could be complicated. under the bill, schools must provide reasonable accommodations for transgender students' needs. that could mean anything from a single stall restroom, a unisex restroom or a private bathroom somewhere else in the school building. one parent says it would be confusing for her 6th grade daughter to share a bathroom with a transgender girl. "as they get older and into high

they're a little more understanding of stuff. at this age there's going to be so many questions and so much curiosity," said skye sample, parent. the superiendent of dakota valley schools says they've never had requests from transgender students at dakota valley. but, they say if the governor doesn't veto the bill, they will make those changes for their students' needs. orange city, iowa residents will head to the polls tomorrow to decide if their local fire department will expand. the current station was built in 1973 and houses the trucks and gear. the orange city fire chief says the expansion is all about the safety of the firefighters. voting polls will open from 7 a-m to 8 p-m at the living waters church. cases of lead poisoning in iowa historically have been four times the national average. those homes that are at risk were built before 1978 when lead paint was used both on the inside and outside of homes. the lead can also be found in some pipes that send water into the home. and while anyone can be a target, children are the most at-risk. the sioux city police association has donated money to a center that serves child victims of abuse. mercy's child advocacy center was presented a check for $5,000, today. they money will go toward the center's move to a new and larger facility at 7th and jackson streets. "this is going to increase the ability to see children in a more timely fashion," said lea greathouse, executive director of the mercy medical center foundation. "we're going to go from one interview room to three, from
