neunaber admitted to killing his mother, and described how w did it. neunaber previously pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder. that all changed today.

neunaber struck his mother repeatedly in the head with a steel bar. he says his mother was conscious during the first 8 to 10 strikes. he continued to strike her over forty more times, shattering her skull and killing her. neunaber then tried to commit suicide. "and then later i took some pills with the idea we could all be ried together. obviously that did not work i am still here." neunaber pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, and an additional count of willful injury. when he's sentenced, the judge could sentence neunaber to up to 60-years in prison. he will likely also have to pay restitution of $150,000. >> neunaber said he intended to cause serious injury to his mother, and that his actions were intentional. and, prior to hehedeath, he had considered several other methods

thanks for the update, tommie. this case began nearly two years ago. ktiv's robert lowe takes a look back on the murder, the hunt for a killer, and the search for justice. july 9th, 20-14 started off as a normal summer day near akron, iowa. but, what happened inside the neunaber home was anything but ordinary-- for the quiet northwest iowa town. as the plymouth county sheriff investigated the property, they discovered the bodies of two people inside the home. eventually an autopsy revealed jonathan neunaber's father, 83 year-old donald neunaber, had died of natural causes. but, his mother, 80 year-old esther neunaber had been brutally beaten inside the farm home. at first, police were unable to find jonathan neunbaer, who authorities says was a "person of interest." but, the very next day he was located by police in la crosse, wisconsin. after he was extradited back to iowa, he was eventually charged with first-degree murder. in august

plymouth county jude and pleaded not guilty to the crime. but, monday, jonathan neunaber, pleaded guilty to willful injury and second-degree murder. as you just heard, he'll spend several decades behind bars. after a mild weekend, it might be looking more wintery in siouxland. there's a chance of snow going into tonight. let's toss it over to chief meteorologist ron demers for more. weather ad-lib winter weather advisory for northeast siouxland through early tuesday morning most of our highs today took place in the morning as colder air started moving in this afternoon in advance of our next storm system. this system is going to bring light snow to siouxland this evening and tonight with some accumulations possible. sioux city will likely see an inch or two out of this with northeastern siouxland possibly getting in on 2 to 4 inches of snow which is the reason they are in a winter weather advisory through early tuesday morning. some lingering flurries could be

tuesday but we'll try to bring in just a little bit of clearing by the afternoon. four people linked to a series of robberies in sioux city have pleaded not guilty. 16-year-old jamaal ferguson, 19-year-old justin ferguson, 20- year-old robert seaberry and 16-year-old austin bulizak have all pleaded not guilty. they have been charged with first-degree robbery related to the shooting of a sioux city police officer at a sioux city apartment complex on february 7th. the suspect, 18-year-old isaiah

charged with two counts attempted murder. mothershed is also charged with five counts of first-degree robbery in incidents dating back to december 7th, 2015. a 90-year-old norfolk, nebraska woman has died of injuries she suffered in a car accident last week. marilee thorburn died at an omaha hospital on friday from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash last tuesday police. intersection of queen city police say say thornburn's car was struck in the intersection by a car driven by 21-year old dino alai of norfolk. thornburn was not wearing a seatbelt. a laurens, iowa man accused of leading police on a high-speed chase around spencer, iowa faces a long list of charges. spencer police say they pulled 31-year old blaine stockwell over for a seatbelt violation sunday afternoon. as the officer approached stockwell's pickup, police say he fled the scene. police say stockwell led officers on a pursuit through south spenceand eventually out into the county, where speeds topped 90 miles per hour. when the pickup went into a ditch, stockwell was quickly apprehended.

including eluding, driving while barred, driving while revoked, driving while suspended and driving while cancelled, along with possession of meth. south dakota governor dennis daugaard has until tomorrow to decide whether to sign, or veto, a bill that would require transgender students to use bathrooms and locker rooms that correspond to their biological sex at birth... rather than their gender identity. ktiv's michelle schoening spoke to parents about their reaction to the bill. michelle, what parents worried about? matt... most parents i spoke to are indifferent when it comes to the bill. but, they say having exposure to the opposite sex, at a young age, could be complicated. under the bill, schools must provide reasonable accommodations for transgender students' needs. that could mean anything from a single stall restroom, a unisex restroom or a private bathroom somewhere else in the school building. one parent says it would be confusing for her 6th grade daughter to share a bathroom with a transgender girl. "as they get older and into high

they're a little more understanding of stuff. at this age there's going to be so many questions and so much curiosity," said skye sample, parent. the superiendent of dakota valley schools says they've never had requests from transgender students at dakota valley. but, they say if the governor doesn't veto the bill, they will make those changes for their students' needs. "there's a family restroom which is a unisex restroom in the new high school. also, all our nurses offices have restrooms in them which are unisex restrooms," said al leber, superintendent of dakota valley. governor dennis daugaard has until tomorrow to veto the bill. if the governor does nothing, the bill will become law without his signature. matt. south dakota governor dennis daugaard says he won't pursue an expansion of medicaid. the governor made the announcement after getting input from federal officials about policy revisions. daugaard says there are not enough days left in the legislative session for lawmakers to consider the plan and make thier decision. he says the state will continue to explore expanding medicaid in the

orange city, iowa residents will head to the polls tomorrow to decide if their local fire department will expand. the current station was built in 1973 and houses the trucks and gear. the orange city fire chief says the expansion is all about the safety of the firefighters. voting polls will open from 7 a-m to 8 p-m at the living waters church. cases of lead poisoning in iowa historically have been four times the national average. those homes that are at risk were built before 1978 when lead paint was used both on the inside and outside of homes. the lead can also be found in some pipes that send water into the home. and while anyone can be a target, children are the most at-risk. "and it's the younger kids when they're one or two years old, they crawl around on the floor. they put things in their mouth. they explore their environment with their mouth," said michelle clausen rosendahl, environmental health director at the siouxland district health department. lead poisoning can come from dust in a home or chipped paint. on news 4 at ten, we speak with a homeowner who has taken matters in his own hands to

the sioux city police association has donated money to a center that serves child victims of abuse. mercy's child advocacy center was presented a check for $5,000, today. they money will go toward the center's move to a new and larger facility at 7th and jackson streets. "this is going to increase the ability to see children in a more timely fashion," said lea greathouse, executive director of the mercy medical center foundation. "we're going to go from one interview room to three, from

counties. it has worked with more than 15-thousand children since the program began in 1989. members of the police department have been involved with the center in areas of child abuse investigations. tolerance is the focus of several activities in sioux city, this week. tonight, "tolerance week" kicks off at 6:30 with a screening on the film "rosenwald" at western iowa tech's ups auditorium wednesday, at 7:30, there will be a children's production of "i never saw another butterfly," which will be free to the public. other events are scheduled throughout the week. the south dakota department of agriculture announced that funds crop block grants. the funds can be used for research, food safety, nutrition distribution and other uses that advances the specialty crop industry. specialty crops are generally vegetables, honey and some turf and ornamental crops. the deadline to apply is may 2nd. those interested can apply on the south dakota department of agriculture's website. brad's here -- it's the first day of the girls state

involving five siouxland teams. kingsley-pierson was the first northwest iowa team to play. ktiv's mark freund reports. mark: almost half a century has passed since kingsley-pierson has made it to state. in fact, the last time the panthers were here, in 1967, it was still a six- player tournament. k-p, opened its tournament run against last year's class 1a runner-up, springville. this matchup - number 3 vs. number 6 in the state. springville comes out hot - mikayla nachazel - for two of her 24 points - the orioles led it by 10 after one quarter. k-p comes back in the second -

quarter - 17 points for the game the break. springville led by as many as 16 in the second half - but k-p makes a late run - allison bailey with two of her 10 points - panthers got within 2 in the final minute. but the orioles are able to stave off the rally - springville ends kingsley-pierson's season, 60-to-53. "my girls have a lot of heart, and finally go those first tournament jiutters out, and as much as we talked about turning it into positive energy, it still affected our shot," said head coach nicole goodwin.
