mance! a northwest iowa dairy and animal f fding operation is facing a federal lawsuit accusing it of failing to stop manure and wastewater from spilling into a tributary of the big sioux river. the lawsuit is against meadowvale dairy near rock valley and its owner, ess-jerp issle-schtein. authorities seek a court order to stop the spills and an unspecified amount of fines. the complaint lists four counts of clean water act violations. federal prosecutors say that since 2001, the state of iowa has cited meadowvale a dozen times for failures to maintain adequate storage, resuling in manure spills and fish kills. still no word from south dakota governor dennis daugaard on whether he'll sign the transgender bathroom bill into law.

make a decision on the measure that would require school students to use restrooms and locker rooms that match their biological sex. under the legislation, schools wou be required to make a "reasonable accommodatio n" for transgender students, such as single- occuncy bathroom. the american civil liberties union has condemned the measure as discriminatory, but supporters say it's meant to protect the privacy of students. if governor daugaard takes no action, it will become law without his signature. a proposed half-cent sales tax increase to help fund pay hikes for south dakota teachers has one more political test today. the state senate is scheduled to consider the bill. if senators approve, the measure would go to governor daugaard, who proposed it. supporters say south dakota needs a sustainable funding source to boost teacher pay. opponents argue that education could be prioritized in existing tax dollars. the house passed the bill with not a vote to spare last week. > weather ad-lib the month of mch will come in

shooting at an ohio high school went before a judge this momoing. authoritits say 14-year- old james hancock-- armed with a handgun-- opened fire inside the cafeteria at madison junior- senior high school in butler county. four students suffered non life- threatening injuries. hancock faces several charges including attempted murder... felonious assault and making terroristic threats. authorities say they have an idea of the motive for the shooting, but they are not yet releasing it. a guilty plea from jonathan neunaber in the murder of his mother. the akron, iowa man pleaded guilty to second- degree murder and willful injury as part of a plea agreement monday in plplouth county court. the 46-year-old neunaber admitted that he killed his mother by repeatedly hitting her with a steel pipe, shattering her skull. neunaber told the judge he didn't want the responsibility of having to be the man of the house after his father died of natural causes. the plea deal calls for a a -year prison sentence.

shooting and wounding a police officer is pleading not guilty. 18-year-old isaiah mothershed is charged with two counts of attempted murder. mothershed is accused of pulling a gun from a couch while his hands were handcuffed behind his back, and shooting officer ryan moritz in the leg while being arrested at a local apartment. police say that as officers struggled with mothershed, the gun fired again, shooting mothershed in the leg. mothershed also pleaded not guilty to five counts of first-degree robbery. each count carries a 25- year prison sentence. his trial is set for may 24th. he remains in jail on 300- thousand dollars bond. folks in orange city, iowa are voting today whether to pay for a new fire station. the fire department wants to spend 3-point-5 million dollars to expand the existing station, which dates s back to 1973. fire chief dennis vanderwel says it's too small for today's needs. he also says there's also a lack of ventilation that exposes the firefighters to high levels of diesel exhaust. polls are open until eight o'
