the south dakota legislature passed the bill to increase teacher pay. the vote passed 25 to 10. the half-cent sales tax increase willllelp fund governor dennis daugaard's plan to improve south teacher. the bill now heads to the supportive governor. folks in orange city, iowa are voting today whether to pay for a new fire station. the fire department wants to end 3-point-5 million dollars to expand the existing station which dates back to 1973. fire chief dennis vanderwel says it's too small for today's needs. he also says there's also a lack of ventilation that exposes the firefighters to high levels of diesel exhaust. polls are open until eight o' clock tonight at living waters church in orange city. the city of sioux city held a meeting toy to discuss the possible move of the clerk of courts office from the law enforcement t nter to the county courthouse.e. ktiv's sam curtiss will have more on the meeting

a northwest iowa dairy and animal feeding operation is facing a federal lawsuit. the lawsuit is against meadowvale dairy near rock valley and its owner, sjerp ysselstein authorities seeked a court order to stop the spills into a tributary of the big sioux river. the complaint lists four counts of clean water act violations. federal prosecutors say that since 2001, the state of iowa has cited meadowvale a dozen times for failures to maintain adequate storage, resuling in manure spills and fish kills. (matt) the school day had barely begun at clay central-everly cmunity schools when someone made a bomb threat against the school. (sheila) ktiv's tommie clark has been at the school in everly, iowa today. she's with live link 4 now. tommie what more can you tell us matt and sheila, i spoke with both the school's superintenden t and the clay county sheriffs department. sheriff randy krukow says they got the call around 9 th morning that the school had received a bomb threat. the schools 7th through 12th grade students were then evacuated to an

with ten other local and state agencies-- including a bomb-sniffing dog-- secured the perimeter and arched the building, parking lot and nearby vehicles. after the e hour search was completed krukow says they found nothing suspicious, and allowed the students to return to class. krukow says the investigation is ongoing. at this time they're not releasing what exactly was said in the threat, or the identity of any suspects in the case. but, he did say that whoever the suspect is could be facing felony chchges including terroristic threat charges and sanctions from the school. matt and sheila? one day after jonathan neunaber pleaded guilty to his mother's murder, we're learning why the akron, iowa, was in a wheelchair and neck brace in the courtroom. neunaber had to be wheeled into the courtroom, on monday, for his hearing, where he pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree murder and willful injury. back on september 27th, the plymouth county sheriff says neunaber sustained what he calls a "minor injury" during a fall in the jail maximum security area.

five days later, the sheriff says neunaber injured himself, again, when he lost his balance, fell backwards, and hit his head on the ed of the bed in his ll. the medical staff initially treated him at the jail, but three days later neunaber had to be taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries from the fall. an arion, iowa man has been sentenced to five years in prison for shooting a man in mapleton. 23-year-old joshua beam pleaded guilty in september to reckless use of a firearm. in exchange for his guilty plea, prosecutors dropped four other charges against beam. on december 16th, 2014 authorities say b bm and eric franco were drinking at a housesen mapleton. they say the men began to wrestle and choke one another when beam got angry. that's when they say beam shot franco in the head with a 44 magnum. franco was treated for non life threatening injuries. a siouxlxld program helps famileleheal after violent crimes. ktiv's tiffany lane with the story of a woman who witnessed her husband's death and how the

"i want to make sure they're up to date and informed of everything that's transpiring with the case of their loved one." homicide victims or victims of violent crimes. nielsen reached out to ford the day afafr she lost her husband. "if you don't have any g gdance lili this or support, yoyofeel left out," said ford. "and you feel not only like you have no control once the accide happens. but you have no control over what's going to happen in the legal system." that support doesn't just come at home or over the phone. nielsen even sat in court when ford faced her husband's killer. "most victims surprisingly do a good jb because it's their one time now they can have some closure and they can actually state to the defendant how it's impacted them," said nielsen. and, while ford doesn't knkn if she'll ever get full closure, working with nielsen and the wish unit helps her heal. the first step, lighting a candle in her husband's memory. "i miss you, everyday," said ford. "you know i have his

picturesverywhere. but he's here." >> the wish unit began in july 2013 and operates under the family crisis centers. and it works with families and victims in 29 counties throughout western iowa. matt and sheila? the wish unit is made up of four people, who work with families and friends of homicide victims. one of those people is julie vandndwel. in 2009, she lost her ten- year-oldldon in a drunk driving accident. her personal experiences help bring a different perspective when she deals with victims working with the unit. "i've experienced the loss of a loved one and with that, it's helped me to find a different compassion and a more empathetic route of helping them to make sure that they're not put into a secondary trauma."

the hard rock hoteteand casino is now the fourth hotel in iowa to earn a four diamond rating from triple-a. (sheila) the rating follows an unannouced evaluation from triple-a back in 2015. triple-a described the hard rock hotel as "refined, stylish with upscale physical attributes." a triplele representativ e sayay the process to become a four diamond hotel isn't easy. they look at 27 different criteria. things like the

staff, and facilities. the hard rock hotel is only one of seven four diamond-rated hotels in iowa, nebraska and south dakota. today students from around siouxland learned about the basic form of life...molecule s. students from the university of nebraska medical center and milwaukee school of engineering taught students how water forms to the life of a cell. the "molecules and you" event allows students to work hands on with the molecules. they were even able to constructt& a snow flake. an organizer says the event allows students to get hands-on experience with science. "we're using science as a vehicle to get students excited about learning. if they leave here knowing a little bit more than when they came in we've succeeded," said maurice godfrey, ph.d. the event is funded by the science education partnership award grant...also known as sepa. sepa strives to strengthen matat and sciences education of american indian youth in nebraska and south dakota. a ballot proposal that would have enshrined farming rights in nebraska's constitution has stalled in a legislative
