america's roman catholic bishops say people of faith are being marginalized in the united states. it is forming an office for religious liberty. a group contends gay rights and abortion rights are given more importance than religious rights. adoption battles in illinois and pro-life conflicts with president obama's health care law. bishop lorri is the leader. >> increasing signs that people that try to bring religious convictions into the public square are being marginalized. those that run educational services according to their religious convictions are being delimb at a timed by new

bureaucratic rules. >> increasing secularism is influencing policies. the non profit law firm that defends religious rights, luke, religious freedom is a bedrock of the religious freedom. the catholic office says they need a new office to protect their rights. what is going on? >> several new threats to religious liberty. two of the main areas come from fundamental conflict between long-standing protections for religious liberty and newly created rights such as the gay rights movement and abortion rights movement. and where religious believers can't participate in a gay marriage or abortion, those two rights in coming in conflict.

>> let's look at those examples in illinois. a catholic agency serving children has been forced to be shut down because of civil union's law. what happened there? >> catholic charities have been doing adoptions in illinois, over 90 years. one of the best adoption and foster care placement services in the state. the state said you have to place children in same-sex marriage families. catholic charities says our religious beliefs prevent us so they are shut down in illinois, also washington, d.c. and in massachusetts. >> of course the kids are the big losers in that, correct? >> that's right. the state had been partnering with these religious groups

because they are the best providers. they were more willing to force religious groups out of the business of providing social services than provide the best care for children. >> in new jersey, they are being forced to assist in abortions. more federal and state laws, why aren't people of faith being protected? >> in abortion laws nobody is allowed to be forced to participate in an abortion in violation of their religious beliefs. we see increasing conflicts on issue of contraception and prescription drugs some people believe can cause an abortion. >> what about the prescription drugs in the pharmacies?

>> in one case the beckett fund represents family owned pharmacy in washington state. they have been practicing pharmacy for decades. a washington state law requires those pharmacy to dispense plan b and ella. they can destroy a human embryo. the pharmacists say we can't do that because of our religious beliefs. they are willing to refer patients to one of dozens of nearby pharmacies. they can't themselves. the government is saying too bad. you have to give those drugs out yourself even if it violates your religious belief. >> what can people of faith do to reverse this trend? >> we need courageous people

different response than the world. >> they hope they'll commit to praying weekly for the persecuted church in somalia. heather sells, cbn news. >> it is not just muslims turning to christ, hard economic times are leading many to return to church. that is the case in greece struggling with economic and politic political crisis. more greeks are turning to the faith. tyler james. >> reporter: new economic reports out shows the country's economy shrank 5.2 percent proving the recession is deeper than originally thought. greeks are turning to religion for some kind of relief. >> the church is the last resort

them to the church? >> becoming part of the greater canape. i call either know culture contextualization and individual development. formal training in the hispanic training isn't a necessity. if you grew up hispanic in the catholic church, very rigid. it is hard to incorporate yourself in the leadership structure. you can be a leader in the christian community. that opportunity is enticing for this community growing. >> how do you see hispanics change the evangelical church? >> they will transform american evangelicalism. we are going to preserve biblical orthodoxy. some swan away from biblical

truth and second they will reconcile what i call the vertical and horizontal points. it is the message of salvation through christ alone of billy graham. both righteousness and justiceness, verticle and horizontal. that is the significant chapter as they transform american evangelicalism. righteousness and justice. >> why do you think these churches are going to change the way evangelicals look at immigration? >> immigration is not just a political issue. hispanics are here and not just to save their families. they are here to save american evangelicalism. bible-believing christianity in america will be preserved via the conduit of the hispanic
