one man's daring escape puts two great nations to the test. hello everyone i am george thomas. china and united states in a diplomatic war. a blind chinese activist is asking the united states to ask him get safely out of china. the controversy disrupted a china summit in beijing. efrem graham reports. >> now they are trying to find a solution, the blind chinese activist pleads for more help from washington. clinton spoke around the issue urging china to improve its human right effort. >> we believe all governments have to answer to citizens aspirations for dignity and rule

of law. and no nation can or should deny those rights. >> china is outraged by the comments and criticizes the u.s. for getting involved. the man was being held under house arrest and suffering regular beatings. he managed to evade his captors and make it to the u.s. embassy. he left claiming he felt safe. hours later chen guangcheng claimed he left the embassy under duress. in this phone interview, he told the associated press, quote if they could ensure our safety, i would stay. the way it looks now, i have lost hope. as the case gets international group, aid groups are working on

entire world should adopt the one-child policy, including the united states. paul strand, cbn news, washington. >> china isn't the only place where religious freedom is under attack. it is happening in places around the world like africa and middle east. that is why religious leaders of all faiths gather in our nation's capitol. they are raising awareness especially in the muslim world. >> 70 percent of the world's population live in places where this freedom is not protected. >> at least 21 people dead after attacks on churches in northern nigeria. no group has claimed responsibility so far. there are signs that the radical

islamist called boko haram could be the ones that did it. >> boko haram has waged for several years in northern nigeria. target is government and christians. >> the city of kono is the epicenter of boko haram's holy war against the country and site of the largest attack this weekend. at least 16 died after gunman road on motorcycles on to a university campus and threw grenades. worshippers ran out to escape, the gunman were waiting to shoot them.

in another city where boko haram once had its main mosque, another attack. gunman stormed into a service and began firing. pastor and four other worshippers died. in the past boko haram said the deadly attacks won't stop until sharia law rules the country. a spirit of fear in northern nigeria. in jan, it launched deadliest attack to dead. suicide bombers launched different locations killing 185 people. >> bombs are sophisticated and powerful. >> boko haram has rejected efforts to begin indirect peace talks with the government and the killings continue. it is believed the sect is responsible for more than 450 deaths already this year.

christians across the united states gather to pray and ask for god's blessing on our nation. they marked the 61st annual

national day of prayer. this year's theme was one nation under god aims to preserve america's christian heritage and defend the freedom. folks played for the country, liters and future generations. my colleague john waage john jessup was at the event in washington. >> reporter: speakers offered a prayer for the nation, the church, our military and . they petitioned god in song. the event drew all kinds of people, lawyers, judges, members of the armed forces, lawmakers and religious leaders. >> the national day task force

emphasizes the judeo christian underpenings of the nation we live in. >> scene for the 61st annual day of prayer was one nation under god. this year's keynote speaker dr. david jeremiah said god answers questions in unseemingly impossible situations. >> while the government, enemy, whoever you want to call them, while they stretch out their hand to harass the church, when we pray, god goes into action. we have nothing to fear. >> the people who attended were encouraged by what they heard and experienced. >> what do you take away? >> let us not give up meeting together and encouraging one another towards love and good deeds and so much the more as we

see the day approaching. it was intertwined with its spiritual heritage. >> the move towards abolition of slavery. martin luther king jr. was an ordained minister. it started in the church. they started with prayer. >> this year's day of prayer fell on the 50th anniversary, the ban on prayer. it was overshadowed with proclamations from city mayors, governors and millions of people across the country who still believe in the power of prayer, john jessup, cbn news, capitol hill. lou engle is the founder of a prayer movement that led millions of young people to pray for the world. engles is doing it again. >> morality has gone down the

tubes, economy a mess and political atmosphere polarizing the nation. some say there is no hope for america's future generations. lou engle, the founder of "the call" a series of events that draw people from around the country. on may 6th lou is bringing it to virginia. >> lou joins me now. you talk about the young generation. you have been firing them up for prayer for a long time. how do you get them really excited about being part of this thing called the great commission? >> music. david, in the bible, he actually was like a worship leader for a youth movement. the musicians, the kids today are playing music, they want to love jesus. the music culture is bringing them to jesus within he is producing a love for the gospel,

prayer, worship, youth, resolution, all over the globe, it is stunning. >> talk about the impact it is having on the culture and in places around the world? >> i am thinking about the ym movement, youth with a mission. prayer, worship, gospel missions across the globe. missions and prayer are kissing each other. i come from kansas city, 13 years of day and night worship with full-blown worship teams, music changes the culture of a nation even more than laws, it touches the heart of young people. >> you have been doing this for a very long time. you talk about the state of america and see the culture and crossive nature and what the impact the young people have on the fabric of our nation.

>> there is a huge justice element god has planted in the soul of the young people. voices concerning the issue of abortion, adoption, pregnant mothers is exploding across america>> sex trafficking there is something jesus is putting in the soul of the generation. these young people are throwing themselves into it. >> a question you probably have the standard, the answer to, do you have the sense that prayer can truly change the destiny of a nation? >> the book, shaping history through prayer and fasting by derrick prince, it gave me faith that nations are changed and shaped through prayer and fasting because it gets godfather's -- god involved, god

>> welcome back to "christian world news" earlier we told you about chen guangcheng the chinese christian activist persecuted for speaking out against human rights. the country side is experiencing a powerful move of god. i recently had a chance to travel to china and witnessed many miracles firsthand. >> these images captured on the home camera are proof god is moving in china. >> this is the first time you are seeing christians from the villages openingly praising god. >> exclusive access to hours of video taken in dozens of locations across china. men and women of all ages being

touched by the power of god. >> everywhere i go i meet people hungry for god. >> dwan and wife are christian activists. they have crisscrossed the heart land focussing on the gospel of jesus christ. difficult yet simple. dwan showed cbn news picture of how people have been baptists. >> sometimes in a river, sometimes in the back of a pickup truck. couple of times baptisms in the shower. very often we have to improvise. >> it was here in the chinese country side christianity began decades ago. most of the christians are women meeting in government sanctioned churches or so-called house

30-40 years, the number of christians in china could reach really, a high number, similar to the u.s. or brazil. >> dwan says the preaching of the word of god in the country side is followed by miracles and healings. >> people could never walk before bewalking. blind see. we see amazing healings and miracles each time we travel. >> dwan is a walking miracle himself. he and wife lived in budapest, hungary. >> i didn't know the lord. i realized i needed something more than material success. i gave my heart to the lord. >> six months after giving his wife over to the lord, he was viciously attacked by a mafia team. >> he shows knife scars on back

>> cbn is offering job training to help poor families in costa rica. a three-month program teaches women skills like baking sewing
