the california massacre... day two of searching a lake. plus... a grinch is stealing holiday spirit in the valley. we'll tell you how and why... but first.... it's hard to miss today's weather change. good afternoon. i'm rikki cheese. one step outside and you can feel how drastically our weather has changed. let's go to chief meteorologist bryan scofield and 'weather first.' a wind advisory is still in effect for the las vegas valley until 6 this morning but gusty winds will persist throughout most of the day. winds pushed temperatures very warm yesterday, mccarran hit 70 around 7:00 last evening and those same winds kept the temperatures very warm overnight. that will bring las vegas into an odd situation where the warmest temperatures came in around midnight to 1am and the into the valley as the cold core of the storm moves overhead this afternoon and evening. the core will bring some more moisture and better dynamics to force some rain showers to form

most of the showers will stay in the mountains but a few will push into the valley and give a hundredth or two of rain. 2-4 inches of snow is possible in the mountains up above 5,000 feet so mt. charleston and the ski park will see some more accumulating snow. sunday will see temperatures climb ahead of the next system with more sunshine around and highs near 60 but another very powerful storm shoves in monday with a decent shot for more rain showers, gusty winds and highs in the 40s. those chilly temperatures will stick around through midweek next week. now to a story you'll only see on action news... we are trying to track down a real life grinch. laser lights are selling out all over the country - and now thieves are trying to take advantage of that. action news reporter yasmeen hassan has the story. these are such a hot commodity partly because they are so easy to setup.

authorities say when the terror group took over syrian cities last year, they took a government passport printing machine that's the kind used by other countries. several fake passports have already been found in europe, and even one of the suicide bombers in the paris attacks used a forged syrian passport to come to europe as a refugee. four people are dead after a medical helicopter crashed in bakersfield, california. the chopper was on its way to a california hospital. went missing last night... fire crews looked for it and later found debris in a nearby field. kern county fire crews later found found its debris field near highway- 65. the f-a-a and the n-t-s-b are investigating. and an update to a story that broke overnight... people living near pecos and bonanza were in the dark this morning.. thanks to a truck that crashed into a light pole, and an electrical box. it also crashed into a golf course fence. this all happened just around 1 this morning. the driver took off on foot. police are still searching for that person.

way to las vegas! a jetblue flight was forced to return to new york just last night. ((pause/05 seconds of nats)) the airline says... the flight from j-f-k was forced to turn around after a disturbance between passengers. after the plane landed several people were escorted off the flight. the other passengers were able to continue on here to las vegas. in today's red, white and blue political coverage... a new poll shows that despite his controversial remarks, donald trump holds a commanding lead in new hampshire, but new jersey governor chris christie is starting to rise. the w-b-u-r poll says 27 percent of likely new hampshire g-o-p primary voters back trump. christie is now second at 12 percent. the new jersey governor was helped by a critical endorsement from the new hampshire union leader newspaper. senator marco jess is third at

ted cruz at 10 percent. meanwhile, ben carson saw his support tumble to just six percent in new hampshire. that's down from 13 percent last month. it's the video that's gone viral. but why would america's national symbol try to bite a presidential candidate and muss his hair? cnn's jeanne moos found out. donald trump is great at winging it. but now he's become prey for comedians thanks to an eagle.
