street. the nearest crosswalks are about a football field away, if not more traffic experts with unlv told us it's probably too much to expect everyone to go that extra distance to cross in a crosswalk. so they're talking about what can be done. one suggestion is a total rehaul of boulder highway -- changing it from a highway into more of a regular road. short of that it could just be adding traffic lights and crosswalks. people who live off boulder highway know how dangerous it can be -- and some have made conscious decisions to become safer pedestrians. leedel matthews, lives on boulder highway "went to the crosswalk and i'll just take my time and make it home. be a little bit later, 30 mins later, but i take my time and make it there in one piece." the pedestrian advocate we spoke to said she's planning for a late january summit with lawmakers and ndot to talk about what can be done to make boulder highway safer. reporting live..david schuman..channel 13 action news. an action news update tonight

roadways. the victim in a crash near spring mountain and lindell...is identified tonight as 51-year-old "ki wyung lee" of las vegas. three others were injured in the crash. it happened around 11-30 last night...and reports indicate one of the cars was t-boned. authorities say lee was ejected from the vehicle after impact, and died on scene. a developing story tonight. a nevada state prison inmate who was convicted of robbing his 82-year- old mother in douglas county six years ago has died less than a week before he was scheduled to be considered for parole. officials say 64-year-old gregory kovner died earlier today at saint mary's regional medical center in reno. kovner was serving up to 14 years after pleading guilty in 2009. an autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death. a live look outside right now. it was pretty windy earlier today with some cooler temperatures around the valley. meteorologist karla huelga has a look at what's headed our way next.

just 51 days left before the iowa caucuses. gloria riviera, abc news, washington. new information tonight on the mass shootings in san bernadino fbi investigators and divers are searching the seccombe lake in san bernardino for the third day this week. searchers have located items during the search but no word yet if the items are related to the case. investigators are hoping to find evidence linked to the shooting inside inland regional center ...that left 14 dead. authorities say killers syed farook and his wife tafsheen malik visited the site. an action news update tonight a suspect has been arrested in the investigation of a suspected arson fire at a southern california mosque. flames were reported just after noon friday at the islamic center of palm springs. the fire was contained to the small building's front lobby, and no one was injured. people at the mosque described hearing a "loud boom" and seeing flames.

metro needs your help finding a person of interest in a fraud investigation. officers say that someone lost their wallet last month with their i-d and credit cards inside. the next day, that person noticed several high end purchases were made on their credit cards at businesses along the southern beltway. the person in these images, is one of three people who police believe used the cards. the video has gone viral! yet another man stealing a package from a porch - right her in las vegas. but this time - the star of the video is not the perpetrator. it's what's the inside the package. action news reporter michael burton joins us live from the home where it all went down. michael? jacqui - we've done a lot of stories about package theft - but this may be the most interesting yet. the family that lives here isn't upset that they were robbed - they're happy. let's just say it's a sticky situation. the camera caught it all. a sprint to the porch - a lunge for the box - a swift escape. "i was kind of excited and i just kept replaying it."

he walked away with just a scratch. a shocking development at a california hospital which could leave hundreds of babies at risk for a dangerous disease. the santa clara valley medical center announced a nurse has tested positive for tuberculosis. she works in the mother and infant care center at the hospital in san jose. as a precaution, medical officials are treating up to 350 infants who may have been exposed. they aren't calling it an emergency, but say it is a dr. stephen harris / santa clara valley medical center " when a baby gets tuberculosis it can unfortunately travel into the blood stream and throughout the body to other areas - even the brain, which is the most feared complication." the parents will be screened and treated if necessary. the chair of pediatrics is recommending all the babies get antibiotics for six to nine months. officials say the nurse did not have a cough, making the tuberculosis much less contagious.

an agreement baring them from participating in class action lawsuits against the ride-sharing company. the new legal agreement was issued two days after a judge expanded a california class action suit against uber. the lawsuit is aimed at defining drivers as employees. doing so would make drivers eligible for reimbursement for expenses accrued while working for uber. uber says the new agreement will only apply to drivers who began driving for uber after friday... and who did not choose to opt out of the initial arbitration clause. an historic, global agreement on climate change today. after years of intense negotiations --- cheers, tears and hugs broke out at the meeting in paris today. 195 countries signed the pact - nearly every nation in the world committed to reducing and eventually eliminating greenhouse gas emissions. but sanctions won't be imposed on countries that don't adhere to the deal. the so-called "paris agreement" is aims to cap global warming and keep temperatures from rising over the next 85 years. this evening, president obama

open house this afternoon at fire station 23. the event coincided with the annual firefighters' "fill the truck" toy drive. a donation box was set up at the open house for visitors to drop off new, unwrapped toys or gift cards. visitors were able to get a tour of the firestation as well as get flu shots. the 4th annual downtown throwdown barbecue championships took place today. the event featured a chili cook-off and barbecue cook-off. those who went were able to enjoy delicious samples from some of the best barbecue cooks around. over 32 teams from all over the western half of the united states were competing for a share of a $10,000 prize and a shot at an invite to one of two world championship contests. we'll be right back with a final check on your forecast from karla. you're watching channel 13 action news... where you ask and we investigate... stay with us. we were between systems today,
