the latest on the strip. >> thank you. once again, our coverage of the breaking news, we've gotten new information just seconds ago. we now have the identity. we're the only ones with the identity and the mugshot of the suspect in the case. >> according to our police source, the person there in the mugshot has been identified as teag fox. he would be about 38 years old. this is the man who right now is reportedly being booked at the clark county detention center and in all probability facing a long list of charges. >> we will be right back with our continuing coverage of the officer who was shot here in the

huge police investigation th >> unbelievably cold this morning. let me show you some of the numbers. a lot of 20s popping up across the valley. we won't necessarily see the same for tonight. we'll see numbers only t degrees off these numbers right here. some phenomenally frozen places. you folks in pahrump, 16 degrees this morning. that's just too cold. henderson, 41. winds out of the south-southeast at 3. not making much of a windchill. we have that to look forward to. 45 degrees. you can see the temperatures are tumbling for tonight. expect another cold night. mccarran, 32. 51 for the afternoon high. we'll keep numbers on the low side for another day before we start to see them come up. they'll come up a little tonight, but not by much, not enough to get everyone out of freezing.

a decent day is how it looked. if you're out and about, you had an extra layer. by the afternoon, you might not have needed that. look at this garden hose and what's happening. this is extremely odd. when we've been beating the drum about a strong el nino year, that doesn't usually mean northern california, pacific northwest gets all the rain. it means southern california and southern nevada gets the rain. that's not what we're seeing. here's what's happening. high pressure has been blocking this to the north. watch the timeframe. watch one storm after another, the one coming through this weekend will stay to the north, give us a glancing blow. another one to the north for the end of the weekend. even another and another. just a whole train following the jet stream. but the jet stream is pitched so far to the north, we'll get cloud cover. we could get sprinkles. we're not talking about a major rain event, not like in the pacific northwest. phenomenal to see that in a year we're calling strong el nino. it doesn't usually happen that way. high pressure is keeping it out

tonight, you'll remember these numbers. they were similar to last night's but not the same, two to three degrees warmer. tomorrow the same for the afternoon highs, two to three degrees warmer, if you want to call it warm. right around 60 degrees. we'll see that a couple of times before christmas eve. it's on the calendar now. i'll tell you that. lows will come up as well but be rather chilly as we get closer to 40. back to you guys. >> thank you. continuing our coverage of breaking news right now, you're getting information that you will only find on action news. we have identified the suspect in the shooting of a metro police officer. he is 38-year-old teag fox. we got this mugshot from law enforcement sources. our thanks to chief investigator darcy spears for getting this to us so quickly. we had a retired metro lieutenant randy sutton on earlier for most of the coverage who said the mugshot was available so quickly shows this is a person with prior involvement with law enforcement.

hour, hour and a half ago when metro officers were able to locate him. this is chopper 13 video over the scene as he was arrested. this from southern hills parkway right in the southern hills area and about four miles from the scene of the shooting. so one of the big questions that metro will try to answer tonight is how exactly was this suspect able to get from the emerald suites at las vegas boulevard and pebble all the way four miles away to the southern highlands area. let's go to stephanie zeppelin. she's joining us from the scene there and had a chance to listen to the sheriff talk about some of these questions as to how this all happened today. >> reporter: steve, they think one of the most likely options is somebody gave him a ride. the sheriff said i hope he jogged because that would mean only he was involved and they only had to worry about him and a case against him. they think the most likely option is somebody gave him a ride from here to southern

they don't know if that somebody was prearranged, someone he knew or he flagged somebody down driving along the boulevard. that's yet to be determined as he was taken into custody. we don't know of anyone else that was taken into custody at the time. another question we had all day was whether gunfire was exchanged. lomb lombardo said the suspect and the officer were talking to each other before the suspect opened fire and hit the officer, once in the chest and once in the armpit area. after being shot, the officer did return fire, but they do not think that the suspect was injured. the second officer on scene, because they ride solo but four domestic, two will respond. the second officer was on the property at the time, not with the first officer when he heard the gunshots and ran to his assistance saying over his radio that he thought the first officer had been shot. he ran up to find him where he

pandora must pay 17 cents per 100 streams between 2016 and 2020, higher than they're currently paying and more than it proposed. even though today's activity was good, shares are down 25 percent this year. vocation wagon hired a lawyer to -- volkswagen hired a lawyer. they admitted to rigging diesel engines to allow them to cheat on emissions tests. the attorney will decide how much each owner should be paid. about 500,000 claims are expected, but it's too early to know how that will be broken down. that's it for tonight's financial focus. let's go to brian now and weather first. >> take a look at bitterly cold temperatures. i showed you local temperatures. let me show you area temperatures. grand canyon national park, minus 10 this morning.

11 degrees in pahrump. 16 right there. boy, that's some low numbers right there. there's more low numbers. it's getting very chilly out there. dress appropriately for tonight if you're going out and about. a lot of people strolling around downtown. why not? just along the strip. if you're from out of town, don't be fooled. it's sunny a lot. it's very cold this time of year. mostly clear skies tonight. this mess, how much of that will make its way down south? that's the question we'll answer. with high pressure building in, that's all the clearing. cold air, might get a swipe of that and a swipe of the clouds. the rain will stay out of the area. hour by hour for tomorrow, peak temperatures in the middle 50s. that's better than today. that's not bad. today, lower 50s. we'll keep the middle 50s to 60s, believe it or not, and overnight lows get into the 40s. over the weekend, i showed you the garden hose and the pacific northwest. we'll get a glancing blow of clouds. we could pick up a quick shower over the weekend.

most of the storms stay out of the way and to the north. that allows us to stay closer to 60. back to you. >> thank you. an afternoon of chaos in the valley is over with the suspect arrested after allegedly shooting and wounding a metro police officer. let's go to jacqui at the scene where the arrest was made. this is in the southern highlands area by st. rose parkway. >> reporter: you can see the suspect vehicle still there right on southern highlands parkway right behind that white truck you see on your screen. it's a silver sedan. they are allowing traffic to now move around this sort of road closure area. traffic isn't being impeded too much. still a large scene out here. a lot of folks collecting evidence, making sure all the ducks are in a row before they clear the area. we'll show you video from earlier. i talked to a man who was driving southbound when he saw the cop cars turn on their

one woman, an officer, with a gun got out of her vehicle, told everyone to back up and get out of their cars, move out of the area. they did, watching in disbelief after hearing about what was happening in the valley earlier today and there was a manhunt underway. listen to what the witness told us. when the cop said back up, you mentioned before i don't want to get shot. whatever you need. >> yeah. basically me and the cars around us looked around and we just backed up. i don't know. pretty far. i didn't know if bullets were coming our way. she was ducked behind the truck of her car with the gun pointed towards them. >> reporter: police have not released any official information on the suspect's identity. we've been showing you a photo that my police sources, three police sources have confirmed that is the man in custody. the suspect in the police shooting, born in 1977. his name is teag fox. we'll be working to bring you

beginning of what turned out to be a very ng day for metro officers engaged in a long, massive manhunt, perimeter, you name it. metro threw everythinghey had until they got the guy i custody about an hour and a half ago. this is t video fromhopper 13 over the scene as fox was take into custody at southern highlands. >> this l started as a domestic disturbanceall at the emerald ites. we heard fr retired metro lieutenant randy sutton, our crime andafety and security expert, that is -- metro rides single patrols. both of them got to emerald suites. one officer was in one part of the complex, the other in another. they were both responding to a call when they were approached -- one was approacd by the suspect who had nothing to do wi that call but opened fi on the metro police officer, who, although he was wounded, he was hit in a

armpit awy from his protective gear. that officer was able to return fire. we heard from the sheriff the suspect was not hurt but was able to get from emerald suites to the southern highlands area, which is 4-1/2 miles away. so those are some of the questions that will have to be answered. >> the sheriff held a news conference. let's listen to some of that as he explains how this happened. here's sheriff lombardo. >> i had the opportunity to return to my office for a short period of time and to check out the network news and we were getting a lot of leads from the public with this. i saw an individual citizen provided a video associated with the evt, which was beneficial. and so i'm proud of the community and their efforts to help us and do our job. we're going to have much more coming up on action news

video before we go. this is one of the more remarkable moments of the chase. this was -- this is xavier, the guy who sent the video. you can see a couple of officers running. this is a couple of minutes after the shots were fired. response. follow the guy in the suit. he's going to get into a silver suv. during sheriff lombardo's news conference, he said the suspect was leaving the scene and ran across his path. in just a moment, you'll see an suv fly by. that's the suv that reportedly sheriff lombardo was in as he sped out of the parking lot and crossed paths with the suspect in the moments after the shooting before he was arrested about five hours later. >> stay tuned for our complete coverage on our web site and
