chopper 13 was first over the scene as this drama unfolded.. and stayed in the air for more than 6- hours so we could literally put you on top of this story. tonight our team coverage continues. action news reporter gina lazara is here with the latest on the officer's condition. steve - the injured officer is alive - alert and awake. that's definitely the good news tonight. the sheriff expressed to us earlier - he's ecstatic about that. "i'm so happy that this guy is gonna have a successful life and we're not responding to a funeral later." but the truth is -- officials weren't sure for quite a while what the outcome would be. the officer was shot in a very dangerous place.... right under his armpit is where the bullet entered him. just an inch or so away from where his bullet proof vest ended. the sheriff called the officer lucky in a press conference earlier today -- because of how his injury turned out - when it could have been so much worse.

'this morning after 9am.. clark county school district staff discovered a threatening email. we are working with local law enforcement agencies and are following appropriate protocol. ccsd says it will continue to keep parents in the loop.. and it's still planning on a regular schoo the district also has crisis response plans in place.. and school police will be patrolling campuses. new tonight.. one person is in the hospital with what police are calling serious injuries.. after being hit while crossing the street. it happened near east lake mead and bookbinder drive. police had to close part of

to hawaii to begin a holiday vacation with his family. nhp is still investigating a deadly crash that shut down both sides of the 215 between hualapai and ann road. investigators say a pick-up truck was going south when it crossed into oncoming traffic and hit that dump truck head on. the driver of the pickup truck died on the scene. the dump truck driver wasn't hurt. it's unclear why the pickup crossed the divider.. but investigators say they're not ruling out a distraction or a medical condition. a violent robbery at a doctor's office near charleston and rancho ends in gunfire. police say a man and woman stormed into the office last night and forced the doctor.. a patient.. and a medical assistant into a room. after pistol whipping the doctor.. they reportedly ransacked the office for drugs and money. that's when the medical assistant ran to his car to get his gun. police say he opened fire.. hitting them. the man ran off. the woman died at u-m-c. happening right now.. another nasty weather night across parts of the pacific northwest.

shows a powerful winter storm moving through with high winds and a lot of snow. and tonight.. a winter storm warning is in effect for the cascades in washington state. police say the weather is responsible for a number of crashes including this one.. that shut down all but one lane of interstate 90. the truck flipped over.. but amazingly.. the driver walked away. snow plows are also working non- stop.. trying to keep the roads clear through snoqualmie pass. not everyone is upset though. the new snow is great news for skiers.. and the ski resorts.. which could see 2-feet of new snow by tomorrow. temperatures will slowly warm into this weekend with above normal highs likely saturday. we'll see generally light winds and overall sunny skies so temperatures will warm into the mid 50s which is right around normal for this time of year. an upper level system is too much to cool things off. saturday high pressure will turn the winds around to the southwest and kick temperatures up to near 60 before a slight chance for showers pushes in

four more workers were killed today in a fire that broke out in a coal mine in china.... that brings the death poll to 17. the fire broke out yesterday afternoon.... 23 miners trapped in the mine were lifted.... 13 of them died. while the remaining 10 were rescued and hospitalized. the fire was caused by electric welding. this was the second mining accident this week in china. earlier this week - 17 people were trapped in a coal mine after an explosion. thats the latest from the breaking news center. an action news update on lamar odom's road to recovery. e! news is reporting the former lakers star is "struggling".. and can't walk on his own. odom is still in rehab in los angeles. it's been more than 2-months since he was was found unconscious from an overdose at

so many people were interested in that storm.. lamar odom was the top search this year on google.. followed by the terror attack in paris and a match question. two women say they were attacked by an uber driver wielding an ice scraper on a busy corner in chicago. the 37-year old driver is charged with two counts of battery and one count of criminal damage to property in connection with the incident. the women say the driver was apparently upset because he had to wait for them.
