he insisted on saying thank you to all those people. children can really surprise you with how poignant they can be. reporting live...david schuman..channel 13 action news. new at 5 tonight: we are digging deeper to find out more about the woman police say is to blame for all of this. today, we got our hands on this picture that gives us a face to put to the name, lakeisha holloway. among those speaking out about this woman: her own family. action news reporter mahsa saeidi lays it all out for us. action news has learned that holloway has now been placed on suicide watch. that's according to her public defender. right now, we are trying to speak with her in person. we've put in that jailhouse interview request.. but in the meantime we've been speaking with family members/ holloway's cousin telling action news she's a quote "very good person." the family can't believe this happened. while they say this is a tragic situation...and they're praying for all the victim's. we were also told they're upset about the media's coverage of this story .

some unusual occupants. deputy's received a call of a car driving erratically. the driver initially pulled over, but then had second thoughts and fled the scene. a high-speed chase ensued. the driver eventually lost control and spun out, crossing the two occupants of the vehicle jumped out of the car and began to run away. officers caught up with the pair only to find out the driver was a 13- year-old with his 8-year-old sister in the car. the latest now on a story we first reported as breaking news on 'good morning las vegas.' we are learning new details about a fatal accident near jones and the 215. action news reporter yasmeen hassan was on the scene all morning.. and has the latest. officers say a woman was walking along jones blvd right behind me on the west side of the street when someone drove up - hit and killed her - and then drove off. now we're not going to get too close to the scene as you can see there are multiple officers

here investigating but they did tell us this woman was hit around 610 this morning. like i said this was a hit and run. police tells us the driver took off but they tracked him down. ((the investigation basically revealed the address of the vehicle and we worked it from there.)) because the driver did take off that means he could be facing the state's new hit and run law. as of just a few months ago anyone who leaves the scene of a serious accident could be facing similar charges to a felony dui. that means 2 to 20 years without the chance of parole. reporting yasmeen hassan channel 13 action news. an action news update on a deadly accident. one man is under arrest... and we just learned the identity of the victim. he's 24-year-old thomas phillips. police say 35-year-old david coleman was speeding down las vegas boulevard saturday night... when he hit phillips who was riding a moped. coleman then took off, but was later arrested. he's facing several charges....including driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. an action news update now on a

we now know the identity of the victim... which hopefully can lead police to the suspect. he's 38-year-old jesse galvez valle. police say he was shot and killed near downtown on 10th and wiilson. witnesses tell police they saw an older grey pickup leaving the scene. again, the suspect is still on the loose... if you have any information, call crime stoppers. we're following a developing story out of afghanistan.. where u-s military officials confirm six americans were killed by a suicide bomber near bagram air force base. no terror groups have claimed responsibility for the attack. 3 others were wounded. 25 coalition troops have been killed in afghanistan this year. winter officially begins at 8:48 this evening. it marks the winter solstice.. which is the moment the northern hemisphere is tilted farthest from the sun on the earth's axis. the northeast finally got its first snowy blast of the season this past weekend.. but above-average temperatures are expected to return in time for christmas.

much of the nation has seen unusually warm temperatures for december.. thanks to a strong el nio. adlib let's go to chief meteorologist bryan scofield and 'weather first.' we will continue to see periods of thick cloud cover throughout the rest of the week. in the short term, tomorrow, which is also the first full day of winter, looks to be the warmest day of the week with highs in the upper 50s and breezy winds. cooler air moves in on wednesday and high temperatures will drop to the mid 50s on wednesday and christmas eve. we will start to feel the effects of our next major system on christmas eve, in the form of windy conditions and chances for rain. the winds will stick around for christmas day and that's when the system's cold air sweeps in, dropping high temps to the upper 40s. the system will remain over the
