9:07 am

9:17 am
they love the chipmunks movies, and they were so excited that i was going to be in this. we got to watch it with them and a bunch of their friends last weekend, and it was exactly what i hoped. they just had a great time. we laughed. there is a great message, the heart of this film about family. and it was great. i had a great experience. >> i would be interested to know when you were working with a lot of things that are cg and animated where do you have to look when you're talking to the chipmunks? >> it's fairly complicated. i learned that they have these chipmunk issues that they bring in on set, and they're really cute. we're not allowed to touch them. they're like the biggest divas on set. >> i was about to ask if you could take one home. >> no, i wanted to. i grabbed them and take a selfie. i was a total geek. we do a scene with a stuffed
9:18 am
them out and do the scene with a piece of tape. they take the tape out and then we do another pass at it with nothing there, and we just use our imagination. so it was tricky. i had like one scene where i had to actually shake alvin's hand, and that was the only time i had to really like maneuver so i had a chipmunk holding my hand. >> they don't train you growing up how to shake a chipmunk's hand. >> i didn't learn that in acting school. >> do you get to do a good alvin yell? we see dave do it all the time. do you get one out? >> i don't know if anyone does it except dave. i think that's his thing, dave's thing. >> i could try it but it would be horrible. i've leave it to the master. >> yeah. i have a book coming out in the spring i've been working on for the last year. it's a meme wear, and it's called where the light gets in. so that will be out in april with random house. >> happy holidays.

9:23 am
we expect a lot of people into our city during the new years, and all the holidays people like to come to vegas. we want to make sure everyone stays safe. we don't want the fatal crashes or any general crashes happening. >> are you doing checks on that evening? >> we don't have any check sites set up but we have extra manpower out on the road. we're going to be making sure people aren't driving impaired, speed enforcement, everything we can, especially from california to las vegas, that is our zero tolerance zone. >> if you see someone weaving back and forth in a lane, do you just call 911? 411? what do you do? >> you can call 911 if it's a true emergency, call right away. if it's on the highway, star nhp from your cell phone works, as well. that goes directly to our dispatch. we'll get a trooper that is close in the area to locate that vehicle and get the impaired driver off the road.
9:24 am
attending the festivities? >> there are a lot of things people can do to keep themselves safe. we know these crashes happen because people make mistakes on the roadway. one of the biggest things that people can do to keep themselves safe is buckle up. put that seat belt o it's the number one defense not only against your own driving but other drivers. we can't always control what other drivers are do. put those seats on. slow down. we know with the holidays and the winter months come maybe wet, icy roadways, especially if you're going up to the mountains. definitely going to give you more time to stop and react and not lose control of your vehicle or collide with other vehicles. and what we always focus on huge impaired driving. we want people to have a plan for sober designated driver. get a sober ride. know what you're doing ahead of time. if you plan on consuming any alcohol at all, make sure you're not driving your vehicle so you're not tempted to drive home
9:25 am
>> are there resources out there for people who have had too much to drink but didn't plan a way to get home because they got dropped off? >> definitely. we know consuming alcohol comes bad decisions. we want you to make a good decision if you consume alcohol and you have your vehicle, don't drive it. you can call resources like tipsy toe. we have uber now, taxi cab services, bmdd, all sorts of things out there. we have smartphones, and aaa has a great website that shows a lot of the resources available to people. so there is free resources and those cost money. >> what about advice for travelers coming in and out? >> trailelers we want to make sure they're safe, as well. if you're planning a road trip, leaving our city or coming to make sure you do a preflight check, check your vehicle, make sure your tire pressure is good, everything is working well. make sure you have food and water in case you do break down if you're going on a long trip.
9:26 am
that's as bad as impaired driving. overall being prepared, have your route planned out so you're not diving distracted looking at your gps. >> what are the hour of the carpool lanes? >> you know, i don't know them exactly but there is a morning time, and then evening time during the midday we don't enforce them. the signs will display the time. motorcycles are allowed in the hov lanes. that's a huge thing in the city. i believe it's 7:00 to 10:00 and 2:00 to five. >> if you're in the passing lane, pass and make your move and get over. >> right. >> that way people don't get upset, there's not road rage going on, because you're a slow car in the fast right get over in the right. and trucks too, i see a lot of trucks in the fast lane. is thatel illegal? >> not necessarily illegal but we want our slow vehicles to drive to the road hand side. but it comes to getting ourself down to giving yourself time. if you're not in a rush, not going to be speeding and
9:27 am
and we find that that happens when people are in a rush they get angry. >> i still remember two things from my drivers ed class. 2/3 of accident happen from speeding and one fifth happens from lane changes. >> i have a mirror on my windshield, a back rearview mirror, helps so much. >> yes, mirrors are great. the new technology is pretty incredible. >> for blind spots. >> you mentioned fatigued driving is as bad as impaired driving. i don't think people realize that. >> sometimes it's hard to know unless people are being honest that they fell asleep at the wheel. it's easier to detect impairment, but yeah, it affects our body almost the same. our reaction time is slower. and we definitely see especially the rural crashes where people are losing control, going off the road, rolling vehicles or off embankments, and there's no impairment there but we know it's early morning hours, that
9:28 am
work and we can almost guarantee that it was due to drowsy driving. >> people need to stop texting and driving and off their cell phones. >> oh, my gosh, yes. even when i'm off duty it drives me crazy. >> thank you so much. the nevada highway patrol wants to make sure everyone has a safe and responsible new year's eve on our roadways. drive responsibly. do not drink and drive. if you see a drunk driver, dial the number listed. for more details check out the website, as well. they're also on facebook and twitter. up next don't let greasy pipes get in your way. cooking oil. >> you're watching "the morning
9:29 am
stay with us. visitors are done, the fridge is empty but what do you do with all the left over cooking oil? it can clog up your pipes if you're not careful. julie chadburn is here to show us how to recycle that used oil and avoid a possible plumbing nightmare. good morning, julie. >> good morning. >> i love your hair, by the way. >> thank you. >> let's talk about the oil recycling program. >> yes. well this is our tenth year for the cooking oil recycling program. as deep frying has become more popular we realized we need a solution to properly dispose of the cooking oil. we didn't want it to go down the pipes. we didn't want to enter the environment, so we partnered partner to come up with an easy solution so we have collection sites that we put up along the holidays so you
9:30 am
and we'll recycle it. >> the turkeys are the best. once you go that way it's hard to go back. a lot of people like you said don't think about the oil left over. some people obviously reuse it, but there's so much oil left. do you wait for it to solidify and scoop it up? >> for frying oil we recommend you put it back into the container it came in, makes it nice and easy to take to one of the locations and drop it off. for your other cooking oil, like bacon grease that you're going to have, that's what you want to use a can or jar. you can gettings from us and scrape it into the can, and make sure that you can get that grease into the garbage. >> we have to get authorized cans? >> or use -- >> where do we do that? >> you can request a can from our website at pain in the drain.com. >> a great name. what exactly happens with the pipes? just clogs?
9:31 am
the same items that clog our arteries clog our sewer lines. so you want to make sure you don't put thanks down the drain that don't belong. again it could back up into your home, which is a nasty mess and clean up. but if it makes it through your house it clogs the sewer lines in the street, and then it will force the sewer to go up through the manholes into the street. so it's an environmental issue, obviously. >> bacon grease through the streets? >> or through my veins. >> it's not just a convenience issue it's a community issue. >> correct. >> you don't have to throw this in the back yard. >> oh, no, no, this has to go into the garbage. so your drains and your toilets are not trash cans. so really we need to get things into the garbage. like the left overs off your plate after dinner. >> i give it to jeff.
9:32 am
so meat, your skin off of your chicken, even down to your salad dressings off the plate, don't stick this in the sink and wash it down the fork or knife and put it into the garbage. >> i don't think people realize that who don't cook, who show up, that there's a lot more to it. >> and especially if you have a house full of guests, you're trying to get back to visit with your company, but really take the two seconds and get it in the trash. >> we collect the oil in the can as you recommend, we wait for the can to get full, then we drop it off. where do we drop it off? >> the oil gets dropped off, we have four locations we partnered with clark county parks and recreation, so we have locations at desert park, at pearson park, mountain yes park and sunset park. you drop off the container. there is a pallet in front of the containment bins, and we'll take care of the rest. >> great.
9:33 am
grease, you're everyday cooking oil we recommend that you line the can with newspaper. then as you're bacon fat or other agrees cools and solidifies you can pull that out and throw it in the garbage. >> anything else that goes down the drain sometimes that shouldn't? >> yes. so as you clean out your refrigerator from christmas, gravy shouldn't go down, anything greasy, you don't want to use your garbage disposal, you want to get everything in the trash, egg shells, coffee grinds, people don't think about rice, those plugs the pump in the waist water system. personal wipes and cleaning wipes have gotten to be more popular. those shouldn't be flushed down the toilet even though they say they're flushable. they will flush down the toilet but don't break up in the sewer system, and again they'll clog the pumps in the waste water treatment facility. >> can't believe the labels
9:34 am
>> it will flush but you think that it's going to act like toilet paper -- >> and $300 plumber bill later. >> and now especially with new years is the time to clean out your medicine cabinet. medicine is an item that we would rather you not store in your medicine cabinet because it has the potential to be abused or misused. as well as it losses the effectiveness if the -- if it's expired. we don't want you to flush it down the toilet. we have collection sites set up at all the county -- all of the police sub stations in clark county, so you can drop those off during the business hours. thank you so much. don't be a pain in the drain. recycle your used holiday january 15th. just drop it off at one of the four locations throughout the valley. for the list and more information on what not to put down the drain, check out the
9:35 am
still to come on the blend there are always lots of things to do in vision for the new year. don't miss our top choice of 13 things. >> do you know someone who makes a difference in the community? recognize them with our give back award. head to vegasmorningblend.com, click on give back, and fill out the form. one lucky person will receive $500 for the great work they do from america first credit union. they are a proud sponsor of this award with "the morning blend."

we will be right back. discover a no pain noninvasive treatment to bring back your youth. called radio frequency and the state of the art treatment is available right here in the valley.
9:37 am
from laser med solutions. good morning to you. what exactly is radio frequency. >> radio frequency is a noninvasive treatment to reduce wrinkles, fine lines or deep folds and also tighten up the skin in the area that we're treating. >> we're talking about the face area. >> we're talking about the face and the body. and, of course, the most popular area ising is going to be the face. we can treat any area. so if you're looking to tighten up the skin on an area on your body we can treat the body, as well. >> and what type of results can a typical person see? >> what's really nice about this type of treatment is like i say it's noninvasive. so radio frequency is just heat and radio waves, and what this is doing is we are heating that deep layer of your skin, the derma, to a target temperature. with all the heat that builds up it's scientifically proven to stimulate the growth of brand-new collagen. we're taking your poll general back in time.
9:38 am
looking at a look of about four to ten years younger with four sessions. >> and that's a little wand that they're rubbing on your face? >> correct. you don't feel any pain. the most you feel is warming sensation which feels like a hot stone massage. this is still perfect for patients that have sensitive skin. as you see in that treatment, we're only using a water based conducting gel for the actual treatment. even if you tend to have more sensitive skin, this is still going to be a noninvasive treatment that's going to be able to help take you and your collagen back in time to reduce the wrinkles. >> how quickly will you see those results? >> so you can see results immediately after the first session. and that just improves month to month. like i was saying most patients get that dramatic change in a series of four sessions where they're coming once a month for four months. >> we have another before and after treatment. >> it's just amazing results. and this is the only radio frequency device on the market that is noninvasive that can
9:39 am
and you know, that's one of the most popular areas, one of the first signs where you get the dark circles, the bagginess, the crows feet. this is one of those treatments where we can treat the complete face. we're treating the whole area. >> and i'm seeing a picture obviously of men, as well, so you can do this on any -- >> male or female, the age does not matter. unfortunately we start to see wrinkles as early as our early 20s. there are so many signs that you're going to start to notice that you're getting the deep folds or the fine lines, and there's a lot of causes that causes wrinkles in general. smoking, dehydration, stress, they're all factors that come to the condition of our skin. and we're able to definitely improve that and take you back in time with that. >> do you get better results if you do several treatments? >> you do. so like i was saying, someone could get away if they're in their early 20s, but doing one or two sessions with us. but most of our patients that we're seeing that come into the clinic are from 40 all the way
9:40 am
and for those types of patients, the skin of the -- the condition of the skin is pretty severe, we're looking at doing a series of four sessions where they come once every four weeks for best results. >> and what type of down time should we effect. >> that's another nice part of this. there is absolutely no down time with this. so you can come in for your session. if we're treating the face and neck and you want to do both at the same time you're more than welcome to do that. it takes about an hour and 15 minutes, so you're in and out. you can apply make up right after. there is no side effects, no down time with slick this. >> where are you located? >> we're located at washington and rainbow, so 777 north rainbow boulevard, suite 200. >> you have a special offer. >> we do. if you're looking to get rid of those fine lines or deep folds and reduce wrinkles in a noninvasive way and improve the condition of your skin, we're doing a special for 40% off for four sessions of pelleve. >> that is fantastic.
9:41 am
