9:01 am
in what they've been doing for many years in their family, which is very, very important in this business. >> wow, that is fantastic. >> we got juggling here as well here? >> we got juggling, which you'll like. this is... >> i can't do that one, that is very impressive. >> junior is eight generations of circus performers in his family. >> i can't do that. >> and they do multiple things. his mom's in the show. she does upside down act where she walks with her feet upside down in our show. >> oh, my goodness. >> wow, and trapeze. >> you use no animals? it's all... >> we're an animal free circus. we concentrate most of our energy and stuff in the show this year with our production numbers, our illusions, we have big illusions in the show. patrick martinelli is one of our illusionists and our main stars in the show, and then we have the trapeze, motorcycles and the globe, tramp-o-wall. juggling, obviously, hula hoop artists, bunch of stuff in the show and of course, the risley act that you're seeing right now. >> wow. >> and of course let's not forget about our funny man alex back there. >> yes. the audience and brings people in the ring. >> you always need a funny person in the show. >> he provides the relief. >> we're looking at some great video here. >> yeah, this is one of our production numbers in the show.
9:02 am
there, and these are things that you're gonna see in the show. really, really the makeup in the show and the stuff like that, that's me balancing the ladder and there's alex right there, very relaxed of course and there's the motorcycles and the globe right there, woo-hoo. >> and you guys are located where? >> we're in the meadows mall right now until the 20th of december, then we're gonna move it pretty far-- we're gonna go over to boca park. >> oh, yes, that's way far. >> we'll be over there christmas day with two shows, but we do have a special going on for the locals and the people in the area, because we know it's the holiday time. we're having tickets starting at $10.00. >> oh, that's super affordable. >> i see a dollar there, what's going on? >> i balance as well. >> oh, my goodness. >> what i do is balance small objects and large objects. >> can you try that on my nose? >> you want to try it? >> yeah. >> good luck, i don't know... are you ready? >> all right. >> go. >> that was awesome. >> what do you do with this christmas tree over here? >> somebody had the great idea to see me balance a christmas tree. i've never done it before, but i tried it in the studio a minute
9:03 am
>> do you want to try it? >> go for it. >> no, you're fine. >> junior, we're gonna pick it up. >> ready? >> yep, go. >> i'm a little terrified right now, i'm not gonna lie. >> okay, hold on, hold on. okay, got it. got it, thank you. >> wow, this guy's as crazy as me. >> oh. >> yes. >> wow. >> wow, that is fantastic. >> tree. >> at least it fell on the ground and not in your face. >> wow. >> that is incredible... do you change these acts up every time you come, too, because you're always in town it seems? >> well, every year we come to las vegas we're gonna have a brand new show. so right after this one closes, we're already in production with a new show, and we'll open up in san diego area and we'll run the show probably the end of january, early february. >> do you live out... live in a suitcase? >> no, we have homes all over the place. we have homes in florida, we have homes in vegas so we're from all around the country, all around the world. >> it's so much fun. >> it's an international community. >> and i can just imagine how
9:04 am
smile when they see you guys. you just make their day. >> well, let's put it this way, the circus industry is very important for america and for americans. it's a tradition that's been going on for over 200 years and people like this are still doing it and we're very fortunate. >> yeah, amen. tell us about tickets... how do we get them, what do they cost? >> tickets, you can get them at circusvargas.com. go to the location, pick them up at the box office and you can also go to 877-gotfun1. >> where does the vargas name come from? >> clifford vargas was a man who basically had circus vargas and, you know, he was a very >> okay. >> unfortunately he passed away. now the tab ares family have the show and had it for the last ten years. >> now, do you have any tips for breathing through this? it's kind of hard, i don't know how they do it. >> jeff could probably help you. >> i'm fine, i'm fine. >> i don't think i have the nose for this. >> you're turning blue, dao. >> looks good on you actually. >> this has been a lot of
9:05 am
how long have you been performing and balancing trees? >> i'm first generation. i fell in love with it. i went to clown college and joined the circus as a clown. >> clown college... there's such a thing? >> there was, yes. so from there, i just fell in love with what these people do in this industry. i'm very, very proud of it. >> so talented. >> if you really look at the show and you look behind the scenes of the show, the dedication, the commitment from a circus performer is incredible. i mean, no matter what, you're gonna make the show, you're gonna perform whether you have an injury, you're sick, doesn't make a difference. what we know is that when you come to the show, we're gonna entertain you and create a memory that lasts a lifetime. >> well, we love seeing you so thank you so much for coming back every year. >> thank you. >> catch circus vargas in their all new show called arlequin. it runs through sunday at meadows mall, then starting christmas, they'll be at boca park through january 4. for the holidays there'll be two christmas shows and two new year's day shows. for tickets and times and other information, just visit the website or call the number listed on your screen. they're also on facebook
9:06 am
music this time tomorrow, gyms across the country will be packed with folks who've made the resolution to be healthier in 2016. but instead of trimming your waistline, maybe you should think about fattening up your wallet instead. two of southern nevada's premier retirement advisors, abe ashton and nick strobelt of ashton strobelt joining us to explain how. they're commonly known as nevada's retirement brothers. both are back with us. good morning to both of you. >> yeah, thank you. good morning. >> great to see you. >> thank you. >> thanks for having us back. >> 2016's almost here, obviously people are making resolutions and one of them should be to check out their finances. >> yeah, we're all making our resolutions right now for what we're gonna fail in about 30 days. >> right, exactly. >> and whether it's personal fitness, whether it's personal finance, it is good to have goals, but i think a lot of personal trainers in the
9:07 am
to make those goals realistic. don't set out saying, "i'm gonna go to the gym every single morning, seven days a week". you know, make them realistic, something you can actually accomplish. personal finance goals aren't much different. set goals that are reasonable. if it says, hey, we're just gonna try and reduce some expenses this year or we're gonna try and contribute to the company 401k this year a little more than last year. if you were doing maybe four or five percent last year, maybe consider cononibuting six or seven percent this year, but make them very small and reasonable. sometimes it's as easy as getting an app on your phone will help you track that. >> yeah, and some people haven't even done it at all so this is the time of year to start fresh and make a commitment to yourself financially. >> yeah, you've got to start. that's the number one goal. >> so what do you think about creating a budget? does everybody need to have a budget? >> absolutely, budgets are very difficult for many. many budgets fail. if anyone's started one and three or four months in it just gets too complicated and it goes away and it's back to the old ways. that's the difficult part about
9:08 am
saying, if you have an app or if you have some software that helps you to track your expenses, it makes knowing what you spend easy to understand. that way when you're looking at your budget and your expenses, if you average one, two, or three months, it helps you know what you spend in each category then it's quite shocking sometimes if you realize, oh, i spent that much at starbucks or that much at this store. so it helps you see where you can improve if you average your expenses. >> seeing in black and white can be tough to swallow, but that's why you have to write it down because sometimes when you pay cash or you just charge all the time, you don't really keep track of all that stuff. >> yeah, those credit cards in our wallets have really hurt as many people as they've helped as far as just not tracking their funds in their bank accounts. >> so if you want to, let's say, cut down on debt and a lot of people have debt, what baby steps can we do now? >> yeah, so cutting down on debt is a great start because if you start looking at the month -- and when we're sitting and doing a review for a client, it's one of the things we always ask people even into their retirement years, what debt are you servicing?
9:09 am
credit cards you're paying, is it a $400 car payment? is it a $1700 mortgage payment. we realize in retirement and in life, there's only two ways to improve cash flow. one increasing income, getting a raise, get a better job or generating more income and the other is reducing expenses. so sometimes, dao, as part of our planning we're helping people reduce expenses by paying off debt first and we've got a very simple debt elimination calendar or schedule where you say you pay off the highest interest debt first, focus all of your efforts there and just the minimums on everything else and once that's done, you take all of that effort and put it towards the next highest interest rate then you ladder your debt off so it's completely gone and you have that much more cash flow every month. >> it's rewarding to see that. >> oh, gosh. people walk taller when they come into our office after having paid off their house. or their car feels cleaner and smells better when it doesn't have a loan against it so it's fun to watch them accomplish those goals. >> and part of financial planning includes an emergency fund. everyone needs to have one. how much do you think we need to have in our fund? >> good question.
9:10 am
if you have your debt paid off, you want to make sure that's paid off. but having emergency fund at least four to six months of cash reserves on the side is a safe thing to have because when your debt's paid off, you also just want to sleep well at night knowing that hey, ifomething comes up, if there's an emergency i can pay for it because i have some cash on the sidelines that's ready to be deployed for any moment. so at least four to six months is the rule of thumb. >> and cutting monthly expenses, my wife learned a very simple trick and it's seven words so this is a great way to reduce your expenses. i'm thinking about canceling my service. so whether you're talking to your cell phone provider, your internet provider, your television provider. we've learned that if we call, because we were actually thinking about canceling our service they all of a sudden say, well, wait a second, did you know that you can get the same benefit for the next three years for 50 percent of what you have been paying. then we're like, okay, well, thanks for letting us now and of course they're never gonna let you know on the front end but when you call these providers for your cell phone or your internet or for your cable, those monthly service contracts and you tell them you're thinking about leave or going
9:11 am
them have a sweeter deal to offer you for less money. >> so if you have a subscription to, let's say satellite radio or some place, like even a credit card, can you negotiate that? >> yeah, for credit cards especially when you have a lump sums and you've had a long balance for a period of time, you can offer to settle some of that debt. let's say you owed $25,000 and you've been carrying that on some credit cards for a year or two. you can say, you know what, we've come into some cash, we can pay $15,000 in a lump sum if that will wipe away that debt if we can get a signature saying that would wipe that away. you can offer a compromise there. >> and as financial advisers, you can sit down with people and taylor their needs to exactly what their income is and their debt and everything else? we're doing right now and as the first of the year comes, our office gets almost as full as a gym and we love that. we love that people are trying to start off the new year right, coming up with a financial plan and meeting with an adviser that they can trust and say, help us get started. it's overwhelming when we try and think of it or in many cases husbands and wives say we don't want to have our weekly fight meeting, which is the budget meeting. they'll say we like to come in
9:12 am
retirement plan, the investment plan, and we're happy to sit down and give a great plan and be a referee if we need to. >> yeah, and get everyone on the same page. >> absolutely. >> thank you so much. really quickly, where is your office located? >> it's off saint rose parkway just in henderson... that's 215 and saint rose parkway. >> all right. great. thank you so much. >> thank you. >> book your appointment today to start your 2016 off right with these financial resolutions from ashton strobelt. they're located on saint rose parkway in henderson. for more on nevada's retirement brothers and how they can help you get on the right financial path, visit the website or call the number on your screen. centurylink prism tv has all your favorite channels, tons of live sports, and more. watch when and where you want with advanced features
