las vegas fire and rescue says crews were responding to a house fire near maryland parkway and bruce yesterday, when the accident happened. the firefighter was checked out by paramedics on scene. as for the house, crews say it was vacant. they think it was started by squatters. officials are now studying that explosion at a radio active waste dump in beatty... so they can learn how to prevent another blast from happening. the fire marshall's final report found that rainwater seeping into the corroded barrels of waste caused the explosion. now officials are working to find out who is at fault, and what corrective action is needed. no one was injured during the explosion back in october. now to the midwest, and those historic floods-- it seems like the new year is bringing some relief. flood waters are starting to recede... so some major roadways are being re-opened.. but problems for many.. aren't over yet. here's abc's elizabeth hur. < two main higways.. flooded and shut down for days.. are now back open in missouri.. a welcome sight for residents..
