fiery crash. the driver and the passenger were both killed. now to another crash in the valley - this one involving a metro patrol car! a cop car slammed right through a fence..at a high school on the westside. and get this - the crash was all part of police chase! it happened at clark high school, near pennwood and arville. that's where action news reporter michael burton joins us live with the details. rikki - i want to take you right to the damage here. this is where the patrol car hit the fence of this tennis court - crashing through this lower brick wall. i'm told it happened at about 10am. police say two officers were inside of the vehicle - chasing a suspect. they say the suspect ran into the parking lot here at clark high school. they followed him into the lot and lost control of the car crashing into the wall. police say the two officers in the car were not hurt - but the suspect did escape and the search for that person continues.

across the street. he says the crash woke him out of his sleep. "i was a little bit shocked because how can a police car in a school parking lot run through a fence? i didn't here any sirens or anything like that so.." the neighbor said he was shocked about the crash - but he told me that he was not shocked that they were chasing a suspect in this neighborhood. he says it's no secret that crime is common in this neighborhood. reporting live near penwood and arville - michael burton - channel 13 action news. we're watching some new weather developments right now. a live look outside at a clear.. chilly evening across southern nevada.. but we might notice some warmer temperatures this weekend. meteorologist karla huelga is in the weather center with the latest. karla. a series of low pressure systems will skirt the west coast starting tonight. those storms will start to

and may not look fun, but make no mistake. there are no regrets here... at least that we heard of. gino comporato, celebrated nye 3:27:59-3:28:06 "we saw diplo and what i remember man it was just f dancing all night man and then somehow getting home." parker collins channel thirteen action news. there were no major incidents during last night's new year's eve celebrations. according to authorities, 8 people were arrested on the las vegas strip, one for a felony. over on fremont street, two people were taken into custody. these are just preliminary numbers. we'll get the full report monday. the new year means some new laws are in effect in nevada. one requires childcare facilities to provide private space for breastfeeding.. and day cares to make sure children get proper physical activity.

to set aside money for teacher recruitment and training.. and a program to reward teachers. also.. body cameras are now mandatory for state troopers.. and you'll now be able to get a sample ballot electronically instead of through the mail. the new year saw another milestone for the city of las vegas. 5 thousand marriage licenses have now been issued to same sex couples. a phoenix couple were the lucky recipeints of the 5,000th same-sex marriage license. the county started issuing same sex marriage licenses back in october of 2014. coming up on action news live at 6, we'll look at how gay marriages are affecting the struggling wedding industry here in the valley. president obama is considering an end- run around congress on gun control. and it comes as gun owners celebrate a new law that went into effect today in texas. and coming up in contact 13 tonight if you're looking to attend college this year, why now is the best time to apply for financial aid.

of freddie gray. attorneys for one of the police officers accused in his death say gray may have had back problems before his arrest. they've now filed a motion to obtain gray's medical records.. and say gray complained about back pain to officers.. weeks before his death in police custody. the medical examiner who performed gray's autopsy also said there was no evidence of a previous back injury. some sad news in the music world. iconic r&b star natalie cole has died at the age of 65. reports say the daughter of the legendary nat king cole reportedly died last night of congestive heart failure in los angeles. cole also had kidney troubles dating back to 2008. she was diagnosed with hepatitis c...which the grammy winner attributed to her struggles cocaine and heroin. her most memorable hits include "this will be," "unforgettable" and "inseparable." employees at a local party store are left shaken after being robbed at gunpoint. we'll hear from the manager..

a bizzare story out of brussels tonight.. where some teenagers spent part of their new year's eve pushing a car into a subway station. once they got it inside.. they pushed it down a flight of stairs. the car rolled onto a platform and slammed into a wall.. forcing authorities to close the station for several hours until they could two it out. fortunately.. nobody was hurt. employees at a local party store in summerlin are left shaken after a robbery. and the suspects were dressed very strange. contact 13 investigative reporter stephanie zepelin is live to explain. according to witnesses in the store, the two suspects came in armed with a gun. one wearing a star wars mask, the other a ninja turtles mask. manager kevin robinson says they came in wednesday right before close and held up all the employees at gunpoint. then they pressed the gun to the back of his head and had him lead them to the safe in the back. 13.03.05 this is a forever changing event 06 i can't, you

over the west coast with moderate rain to california north into washington. las vegas will see some of the effects of that moisture but it'll only be in the form of high clouds. those clouds will work against the southwest flow to keep temperatures below normal, but will concede some progress and allow highs into the low 50s for the first time since christmas day. sunday will see even thicker high clouds and slightly warmer temperatures thanks to warm overnight lows and a steady flow of slightly warmer air in from the south. monday is where things change for the wetter - a weak low pressure system will miss vegas to the south but could toss enough moisture towards the city to spark off a few showers in the afternoon. that storm is the first in a line of storms headed towards southern nevada with models forecasting up to 1.25" of rain by friday night. the heaviest rain looks to fall tuesday into wednesday of next week with another whopper coming for thursday and friday. each successive storm will be cooler than the one preceding
