stevens testified that george promised him 5-thousand dollars to kill shauna, but was only paid 600. last month, george tiaffay was sentenced to life in prison for her death. pic)vo a suspected killer is behind bars...accused in a brutal murder. here's our first look at him.. he's 47-year-old tracy morrison. police say tuesday night he beat up his victim to death using only his fists... it happened at a home near charleston and decatur. morrison is now facing murder charges. unfolding in paris-- a new scare on the one-year anniversary of those deadly attacks at charlie hebdo. an armed man was shot and killed outside a police station. police say the man was carrying a knife and shouted "alla-hu akbar"... as he tried to get inside the police station. he was also reportedly wearing a "fake" suicide vest. the city was also on edge today, and in mourning...for all those lives lost in the attacks at the satirical magazine.

the aftermath of the accident. clark county fire says it all happened... after the shuttle bus driver crashed into that boulder near las vegas boulevard and warm springs. when he was inspecting the damage... the boulder rolled on top of him. he's expected to be okay. and a similar scare in upstate new york-- 17 minersrapped neart blow grouthat's the sound of relief...the moment those miners were pulled up to safety. the group was just starting their shift... when the elevator stopped working. nats: (0-10 secs) outcue = people on it. that's audio from the 9-1-1 call. as the miners waited for help, rescuers sent them blankets and food. they were finally pulled up using a crane. operations are suspended in that part of the mine until the cause is determined and the

and get this -- they're working in the deepest salt mine in the country. right now, a state of emergency in southern california... not because of el nino, but instead a major gas leak. the leak happened at a storage facility actually back in october. you're looking at video of an emergency town hall held last night. officials think about 12-hundred tons of methane have been released into the air every day. thousands of people are now forced out of their home, because if you didn't know...methane fumes can make you sick. meantime, a class action lawsuit has been filed against the company. and now let's get to those storms -- thousands of homes in california in jeopardy...at risk of mudslides! the golden state is just getting battered with buckets and buckets of rain. that's leading to major flooding. take a look. it's just car after car getting stuck on the freeway.

a new, federal report says you need to cut back on sugar...and instead more veggies. it recommends limiting eat the amount of added sugars to no more than 10-percent of daily calories. that's about 12-teaspoons of sugar a day! to put that in perspective, a can of coke contains about 10 teaspoons. according to the report.... americans on average get about 13-percent of daily calories from added sugars... teens get about 17-percent. and good news for coffee drinkers, they say you can have your cup of joe in moderation. just don't have it with any alcohol. but the biggest change centers just don't have it with any alcohol. but the biggest change centers on cholesterol. health officials have removed a daily cholesterol limit!

hello and thanks for joining us on this second half of action news at midday, i'm dayna roselli. and i'm jessica janner. 36-year-old dwayne lawson was actually found in california...during a traffic stop! the shooting actually happened last february on missouri avenue, near boulder highway and tropicana. metro police say it all started with a knock on the door at a home. the victim answered...got into an argument..and then got shot. he's now waiting to be extradited back to las vegas. developing now... several, local fast food businesses have been broken into in the middle of the night. and police are desperately trying to track down the culprits. "three subjects all wearing dark clothing." (butted with) "they believe it's possibly going to be related to the night owl series." just yesterday, a chipotle near durango and elkhorn... was broken into. it's one of at least 5 businesses to have been targeted in the recent weeks.... including frijoles and frescas and jimmy johns. police say the crimes all are similar. the crooks use a crow bar to get in...then go for the cash.

the first baltimore police officer accused in his death...has been ordered to testify in two other trials. prosecutors say officer william porter is a "material witness" for those other officers. but porter's attorneys say he will fight that order... and plan to file an appeal today. you may remember porter is set for a re-trial...because his first trial ended in a hung jury. and legendary comedian bill cosby will not be facing charges for two sexual assault cases in los angeles. for one case, prosecutors say there's not enough evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in that case and the other, they say the statue of limitations has expired. but he's still facing charges in pennsylvania. about 50 women have accused them. but he has denied all wrongdoing. an action news update... on lamar odom's recovery. his wife khloe kardashian
