9:24 am
>> let's go back to the first time we were on the show, two and a half months ago. we talked about how to be more conservative later nonlife but just that people maybe need a more conservative approach. now we're getting lots of phone calls, not just because of the show but because of what happened in the market recently. everybody is watching. a little something happening. there's never an appropriate time to say, i told you so, even though you can watch our past segments and we said go more conservative. people have a lot of advisers saying don't panic, and i don't think there's more manipulative piece of advice for at an adviser to give someone than don't panic you. think of people running around with arms in the air, and the fire in the brown. that's what panicking is. but they're saying, don't start thinking for yourself. don't start re-evaluating or considering. last night in our office we had a couple, a great courage that came into the office and said at
9:25 am
$300,000 in this account. today just we have $250,000. >> wow. >> we're now considering how much longer we have to work until we can retire. and that's a lot of people out right now who are now coming into the office and say, what strategies or diversification, how to be more conservative so not to gamble our future? and there are strategies. it's not about saying, start panicking. it's saying, you should start evaluating and getting information and that's what we're teaming people too do. >> nick, let's talk about the volatility in the market. since the beginning of the year the market dropped ten percent. you need to know what is coming next so you can protect your clients what economic indicators are you looking at? >> a great question. a million economic indicators out there and it's very easy to get confused. what shy look at or not look at. what is interesting is when you look at economic indicators look at the big picture. look over 15 years you see that
9:26 am
down, and it's normal, but many people forget that there's normal cycle of up and down. we have had a bull market for dwight a few years now, and now we're starting to see things tilt the other direction andking, i thought that didn't happen, but short memories are not very good. >> like the people buying suv today think it's always going to be 1.99 gas. >> not the gays. >> it's important to look at indicators as they apply to retirees, our specialty is helping retirees have safe portfolios so they can't lose as much money as other strategies. what its interesting about what we have done and the indicators we watch, one is a momentum indicator. indicating if markets are tilting up or tilting down in a certain direction, and it's called the moving average convergence divergence, if you want to get tick nick: >> -- technical. >> we want to tell, where is the moment in the market going?
9:27 am
year, the end of the third quarter last year, they begin to tilt down, and sew started to become more conservative because our clients are retirees, so it's worked out really well, because the s&p has fallen near 10%. by saying conservative our clients haven't that hat much of a fall. >> we have talked about pensions. are we able to create our open private pension that is secure -- >> absolutely. for retirees, size doesn't matter. what they want is income. they want the most income they can have and preserve their nest egg, and people are asking us, can i generate an income that will last the rest of my life and maximize that and still heirs. when people come in, we show them income plans and showing them plans on how to reduce risk and volatility because there are those strategies available. >> absolutely. i know that you want people to be able to understand these products and these solutions, and you have a gift that you're
9:28 am
>> this is a big offer. we have to be careful because we can only do ten because it's a lot of work and expensive. we do retirement portfolio analysis that include a morning star report and we say we'll analyze your total risk with what you have. a great way for a second opinion when people have a current plan. we'll go through the whole entire morning star report, nick does a great job going through every line item. >> crunching the numbers. it's amazing to see what kind of risk you're in. sometimes you don't know how much risk you're taking in stocks and bonds and other assets so this analysis is a real eye-opener for -- like abe was saying, time re-evaluate where you are. >> this is the year. right now is the time to evaluate. we'll only do ten of them so we'll give those to the first ten caller. >> we have to go but two
