for clark county firefighters. around three this afternoon they responded to a small fire at vacant home near washington and rainbow. the fire was out when they got there. but they did find a stolen vehicle outside the house. earlier today they responded to a fire at a vacant apartment complex near sahara and the i-15. investigators say the fire started before 8:30 this morning in a downstairs apartment before spreading to the rest of the building. officials say the building was

encounter with a pelican in san diego is circulating online. it shows a fisherman petting the bird and kissing it's beak. the man says he comes out to the pier to pet the bird often and that the pelican recognizes him each time. . now to a developing story.. the hunt for three inmates accused of violent crimes-- who are on the run they escaped from the orange county jail in california, now authorities are working to track them down. abc's lauren lyster shares how they managed to break out. script: a manhunt is underway for three violent criminals who escaped from an orange county jail. sheriff's spokesman jeff hallock: "this was clearly a well thought-out and planned duong?according to jail officials, the trio disappeared from their group cell after cutting through half-inch steel bars? tunneling through the plumbing pipes before making it

baltimore and philadelphia are working to get metro, train and bus services up and running ahead of the monday morning commute. (mayor jim kenney/ (d) philadelphia) this will be a long-term plowing and cleaning operation. hundreds of people worked around the clock and they will continue to do so. in new york -- even though the travel ban has been lifted and today. unless you have an emergency or something truly urgent, leave your car where jt is. washington d-c brought in 400 extra snow removers... and canceled schools monday. the coastal flood warning has been lifted in new jersey-- where several cities were inundated with high water that caused widespread power outages. officials say the worst appears to be over... (governor chris christie/(r) news jersey) and so we've really done very well in this storm, and we have no concerns about flooding or damage from flooding any time soon.

millions of people along the east coast are scrambling to dig themselves out of the snow and ice after this weekend's crippling winter storm. good evening... and thanks for joining us. i'm jacqui heinrich. the blizzard killed at least 22 people, grounded thousands of flights and essentially shut down several of the nation's largest cities. cnn's martin savidge takes a look at the blizzard of 2016. from above the monster storm looks peaceful - almost serene. but on the ground - it's caused death, misery and destruction. from fatal accidents, to huge snow piles - flooding and the complete shutdown of major cities - the blizzard of 2016 is one for the record books... it's going to take a while for transportation issues to be resolved. mass transit service remains suspended for the weekend in washington and baltimore in new york, work is under way to get the long island rail road ready in time for the monday morning commute house majority leader kevin mccarthy announced today that the house will not be in session this week "due to the severity of the winter storm." it was supposed to be a short week anyway. monday votes were already canceled. and house democrats were scheduled to head to baltimore for their annual retreat for the end of the week. votes on an override of the president's veto of the obamacare repeal, and on iran sanctions will be rescheduled for february. the latest developments on those escaped inmates in california.

following several leads as the manhunt continues. authorities say they beat the entire safety system to break out of the maximum-security jail in santa ana on friday. as joy benedict reports, police are now checking if they had any help from the inside. (lt. jeff hallock/orange county sheriff's dept.): "the public should expect the worst if they encounter them." well planned and sophisticated. that is how orange county sheriff's officials are describing the troubling escape of three very dangerous inmates- missing now for more than 24 hours after they crawled through a plumbing tunnel and rappelled off the roof of the maximum security lockup in downtown santa ana. one question tonight that officials are investigating, who on the inside maybe (lt. jeff hallock/orange county sheriff's dept.): "based on the information that we have it seems the inmates cut through half inch steel bars to facilitate their escape.the information also suggests the inmates cut their way through the plumbing tunnels and gained access to an unsecured area of the roof." according to

(lt. jeff hallock/orange county sheriff's dept.): "if you look directly behind me the wire at the top of the roof..it was pushed to the side it may have been corrected.. that is the area we feel that they went over and rappelled to when the men slipped away. the inmates were last seen in their jail dormitory at 5 am friday but when the next head count was done around 9 pm..they were gone. sheriff's deputies acknowledge that a jail incident caused friday night's inmate check to be delayed by an hour or so. that too may have been part of the escapees plan. vanished nearly two years ago. it was flying from malaysia, to beijing, when it disappeared from radar. 239 passengers and crew were on board. a turkish airlines flight from houston to istanbul was diverted to shannon airport in ireland because of a bomb threat. the flight the boeing 777 landed safely and all passengers and crew disembarked. there were over 200 people aboard the flight. investigators are continuing to investigate the source of the bomb threat. another protester was escorted out of a campaign event for donald trump. it happened today as the republican presidential front-runner was speaking at a rally in iowa. when trump started talking about radical islamic terrorism, two men on the balcony held up a white banner with the words "stop hate" written on it. supporters began booing and chanting, "trump! trump!" the two men were escorted out of the building.

microsoft is recalling some of its tablets... specifically the older surface pro tablets, generations two and three. the company says they can overheat, and even catch fire when the tablet's cords are wound too tightly, twisted or pinched. microsoft is working on a fix. u.s auto safety regulators are investigating complaints that doors won't latch properly on nearly 400,000 ford focus compact cars. the probe covers cars from 2012 and 2013. some drivers have even reported the doors opening while the car was moving. ford has not said if they'll be recalled. and... don't forget, contact 13's call for action is ready to help you

studies involving children and their weight are not yielding encouraging results. what's worse.. kids are setting themselves up for health problems later in life. holly firfer explains how parents can help reverse the trend. in 2012 more than one third of children in the u.s. were overweight or even obese. a recent study in the journal pediatrics found that a contributing factor is lack of sleep. "sleep is important for so many things. ranging from good growth, helping your immune system, heart health, good behavior and the ability to focus and concentrate and learn well in school. not enough sleep may mean not suppressing the appetite and making you want to eat more, taking in more calories, as well as carbobydrates in general. and that can cause a whole host of health problems. "too much eating eventually along with obesity eventually can cause problems like heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, so everything's interrelated, we want

that includes your nutrition, your sleep and your exercise. and so we do recommend that kids get the right amount of sleep recommended for their age, at least an hour of exercise a day, and to eat a healthy diet. so how much sleep do children need? according to the cdc: newborns should be sleeping on average 16-18 hours a day. preschool aged kids, 11-12 hours. and school aged children should sleep about 10 hours a night. and doctors say one more thing -- make sure to monitor what your children are eating. no amount of sleep can battle the bulge if they're not getting a healthy diet. for today's health minute i'm holly firfer. health officals are now confirming that three people in the new york city area have contracted the virus. all three had recently traveled outside the country. the c-d-c has expanded its list of countries they believe pregnant women should avoid visiting over concerns about a virus that spreads through mosquito bites. concerns about a virus that
