>> reporter: ethan couch escorted into the very place he allegedly tried to flee. a tarrant county jail. the millionaire's son, now with the shaggy beard, bundled back to the u.s. by mexican officials, couch in coach. and later escorted between two u.s. marshals after arriving in dallas. >> i'm relieved for those victims who just continue to need somebody to represent them. those victims that need a voice. >> reporter: in 2013, the 16-year-old pled guilty to killing four bystanders in a drunk driving wreck. during sentencing, his legal team claimed he suffered from affluenza, too spoiled by his parents to know right from wrong. the judge gave him only probation, ten years. authorities say he and his mother skipped probation, crossing the border into mexico. in a hearing the judge could decide to keep ethan couch locked up until his 19th birthday. he has already spent more time in detention since his flight to mexico than he ever did after killing those four people.

jonathan karl, abc news, des moines. well, u.s. officials say that activity at a north korean missile testing facility could indicate that the country is planning a potentially long-range missile test in the future. the suspicions are based on overhead satellite imagery of a satellite launching station on north korea's western coast. north korea used the facility in december of 2012. staying overseas, iran is right now on a spending spree now that sanctions have been lifted. the iranian president was in paris yesterday for the signing of 20 new agreements including nine commercial deals. among them an order for 118 planes from airbus and a half billion dollar order from carmaker peugeot. but a lunch was canceled because the french president refused to yield to the iranian demand to remove wine from the table. >> wow. >> our hero. francois hollande.

jason rezaian was back at the office celebrating his freedom at a ceremony that included the secretary of state, you see there, john kerry. he was emotional thanking everyone who helped secure his freedom from a tehran jail. but still defiant about his captors. >> for much of the 18 months i was in prison, my iranian interrogators told me that "the washington post" did not exist. that no one knew of my plight. and that the united states government would not lift a finger for my release. >> rezaian added that the iranians' efforts to demoralize him just didn't work, adding that no other country would do so much. kerry helped finalize the prisoner swap that freed rezaian and four other americans. a new stage in europe's sweden now says it may reject the asylum applications of up to 80,000 migrants and deport them. that's nearly half of all the refugees who requested asylum there last year. sweden has been one of the most welcoming nations.

difficult turn in the continent's refugee crisis. meanwhile, here in the united states, a senate investigation has found that the health and human services department failed to protect migrant children from human trafficking. the six-month study found that the government was overwhelmed by the tens of thousands of children crossing the southern border. still, the findings angered senators from both parties. state workers in flint, michigan, were given the choice to drink from bottled water, this is even as residents were being told that their tap water just fine. this is according to some recently discovered e-mails. the switch at state office buildings was made in january of last year. it wasn't until the fall 2015 that residents were told not to drink their water. and staying in michigan, the detroit teachers union is suing the school district for what it calls deplorable conditions. the union is demanding immediate funding to fix crumbling buildings, accusing the district of neglecting student and teacher safety.

by rolling teacher sickouts forcing dozens of schools to close on any given day. classes are canceled today at a texas middle school because of a suspected carbon monoxide leak from a faulty boiler. at least 145 people were made sick from the leak yesterday. abc's ryan owens reports from beaumont. >> reporter: for more than 100 students and staff at this texas middle school, their school day ended at the hospital. being checked out for symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. >> they showed symptoms of nausea and headache, and some were vomiting. and, of course, ems treated and took the appropriate medical action. >> reporter: some students left on stretchers. others loaded into buses to a local hospital. >> everyone didn't really know how to, like, react to it, because this has never happened before. >> reporter: the fire chief in the city of beaumont, east of houston, believes the toxic gas was leaking from a boiler at

the leak was first reported around 10:30 this morning, when one child fell unconscious. all students are expected to be okay, but authorities are vowing no one will be allowed in that school until they know it's safe. the fire chief says there were no carbon monoxide detectors inside of that school. so the first sign of trouble was when kids started getting sick. ryan owens, abc news, dallas. well, a sinkhole has forced the closure of a main highway in southern oregon. the slide started on highway 101 around noon. after an overnight storm dumped nearly an inch and a half of rain. it now threatened to undermine all four lanes of the heavily traveled roadway. >> wow. i was just looking at video of that sinkhole. it's incredible. >> yeah. >> just imagine if google maps tells you to go that way. calgary flames defenseman dennis wideman has been suspended as we predicted indefinitely pending a hearing after an incident on wednesday night. you saw this yesterday. this is painful to watch. what's up with this, dude?
