two apartments have toppled over. and some water and gas pipes have ruptured. 123 people have been rescued so far. but so far, no reports yet of any deaths. more breaking news. we are hearing from the clark county school district about the governor's plan to help combat the teacher shortage in the state. 13 action news reporter michael burton just got out of an interview and has more from ccsd. ccsd is very excited about this announcement. they tell us that they have to fill nearly 700 positions for the next school year. they say it's been a struggle to find qualified applicants who are licensed to teach in nevada. but, this new measure will allow ccsd to issue provisional teaching licenses - for aspiring teachers who don't meet every single requirement for a standard license - this plan will allow them to teach

working to meet those requirements. we spoke to a man who says he's been trying to become a ccsd teacher for years. find out what he has to say - later tonight. reporting live - michael burton - 13 action news. shocking new developments in the murder of that teen in virginia-- prosecuters say one of the virginia tech students charged in her murder has confessed!! natalie keepers and david eisenhauer are facing murder charges for killing 13-year-old nicole lovell. when police confronted keepers... they say she tried to warn eisenhauer and then told all about how they killed the middle schooler. and here's the even more chilling part -- they say keepers told them she was quote "excited to be a part of something secretive and special." one of the victim's friends says she tried to warn school police. but they didn't listen. 21;15;03;00 did you make this up? no. 21;14;15;18 i think if he would have done something, he would have seen all the guys on

he would have seen and he could have stopped all this. school police deny she had alert officers. school police deny she had alert officers. police are still looking for the gunman who killed a man in broad daylight yesterday in a parking lot near rainbow and westcliff. a nearby business owners says his employee heard a loud screech and a car door opened. the victim then fell out onto the pavement and was pleading for his life. that's when the gunman opened fire. detectives are now looking at surveillance video and talking to witnesses to track down the person responsible. police are also looking for a suspect in a deadly shooting near fremont and charleston. investigators are hoping new details about the victim will lead them to his killer. the coroner's office has identified the victim as 45-year old john vounas, jr. police say he bled to death while he was on the phone with 9-1-1. tensions are high among the presidential candidates. the latest democratic debate is over, and the republicans are preparing for their own tomorrow night.... all the while the new hampshire primary is just 4-days away.

the c-d-c says now men should use protection during sex with a pregnant partner who traveled to.. or lived in an active zika virus area. they also recommend pregnant women returning from areas with the zika virus should get tested. the entire state of florida is now on high alert after at least 12 cases have been confirmed. the florida governor has also declared a public health emergency in 5-counties. gov. scott sot "while all the cases in florida are travel related, the mosquito that causes zika virus is common in florida. governor rick scott is asking for more test kits. another worry goes beyond mosquito transmission. brazil is confirming the first case of infection from a blood transfusion. there are more than 50 cases in the u-s in 13 states and washington d-c. does a vaccination protect for life? new research reveals that one important vaccine may wear off more quickly than you think. with more, here's abc news's

< recent outbreaks of whooping cough in california remind us that getting vaccinated against pertussis, whooping cough, is more important than ever. parents wonder... how long does protection last after the booster shot at about age 10? researchers at kaiser hospital system studied teens who got the booster shot ? and found the effectiveness of this vaccine was about 70 percent in that first year? but after four or more years, that effectiveness decreased to only about nine percent. so past concerns that the vaccine's effects are not as long-lasting as hoped seem to be correct? and that this waning effectiveness might be contributing to outbreaks of the disease. but researchers cautioning? that even though it may not be a perfect weapon in teens, this vaccine is the best defense we have against the spread of whooping cough, which can be especially dangerous in infants. bottom line... talk to your doctor about the best vaccination timing to protect all of your family. with this medical minute, i'm dr. timothy johnson. >
