6:03 pm
more. marissa. according to code enforcement-- the tarp has been approved as a temporary structure-- but it was only allowed to be there ten days. you might remember one neighbor-- sean pierrot-- put up the tarp-- saying his neighbors surveillance cameras were pointing inside his home-- filming his wife and kids. this was just days after pierrot repeatedly punched his neighbor for the same reason. now-- the ten days is just about up-- the tarp will need to be removed tomorrow. code enforcement says theyll be back out to check on it. if its still there-- theyll issue a correction notice. taking a live look... at mc-carran airport.... right now... where a united airlines flight.... headed to houston..

business and i really don't understand what happened there. a father and his teenage daughter.. shot inside their home near hualapi and desert inn. tonight.. they're fighting for their lives while police look for suspects. investigators don't believe it was a random act of violence.. but neighbors are still understandably on edge. 13 action news reporter yasmeen hassan was first on the scene.. and has the latest on the investigation. yas the father and daughter who were shot are now in critical condition fighting for their lives at umc and the people responsible were on some sort of mission because this place is not easy to break into. you need a gate code to get in not just by driving but even walking, theres a gate to get in and out of this neighborhood. officers say all of this started right around 4-45 this morning and i heard over the scanners that someone kicked in the door and then started shooting. speaking of that scanner sound, we have some of it for you to listen to. sot scanner traffic: 25:22 "home invasion. the husband was shot,

using them to house other eople. he says he started getting suspicious a few weeks ago - and then took a close look at surveillance that validated everything he was feeling. at nearly 1am - a man squeezes his way onto the property through a tear in the fence that surrounds the property. at about 3:15am that same day - a woman does the same. a few days later - surveillance video catches a man leaving the property at nearly 5am in the morning. all of these entrances and exits occur outside of normal business hours - which are 6am to 11pm. this is that fence - that has since been repaired. the storage facility is called "mini storage" - near the corner of swenson and twain. the manager didn't want to be on camera, but he tells us anyone who is on the property for any amount of time after business hours is seen as someone attempting to reside. his internal investigation -

the manager says when he went to authorities - they told him he first had to issue cease and desist letters. so that's what he did. starting today - the manager has issued 7 of those 23 letters. the letter is not an automatic eviction for the people renting the storage units - it's just a first and final warning that can not continue to use it as a residence. reporting live - michael burton - 13 action news. police are releasing new details.... on the arrest of a former north las vegas teacher. according to the report.. william crawford kissed two.... -12- year-old girls..... in -2- thousand -12- ... at "sommerset academy". the act wasn't reported.... until - 2- thousand -14-. the students say... crawford never touched them in- appropriately... but.. they say... he often brought students into a closet and "tickled" them..... as punishment for misbehaving. north las vegas police are asking for your help right now

they're one of the wall street banks that triggered the financial meltdown -- goldman sachs. just settled with authorities for their part in the crisis that put seven million out of work and millions out of their homes. how does wall street get away with it? millions in campaign contributions and speaking fees. our economy works for wall street because it's rigged by wall street. and that's the problem. as long as washington is bought and paid for, we can't build an economy that works for people.

electric stove. firefighters were on scene for hours before the flames were finally knocked down. the building is a total loss.. but fortunately.. no one was hurt. we now know..... what caused metro's 9-1-1 system to crash.... last week. a system failure..... that left las vegas.... without a lifeline for hours!!! here's chief investigator.... darcy spears with a story..... you're seeing first.... on 13 action news. darcy stand-up: it's almost hard to believe, but it might have been as simple as a cell phone plugged into a computer with a u-s- b cable. whether it was a phone or some other device, that's what metro says caused the crash--exposing a vulnerability they didn't know existed. 3:38 michael barnbeck/9-1-1 radio systems director: at the end of the day, the most important thing is if you call
6:13 pm
your call and providing that service to you. that was radio systems director michael barnbeck a few days before metro's 9-1-1 system emergencies--another system failure we exposed at 9-1-1. 1:11 michael: it is not a technology issue. there's no failed technology involved in this. not with the families kept on hold, and not with the crash either. that, metro confirms, was caused by human error, though they don't believe the person knew they were doing anything dangerous. metro confirms someone plugged something in to the 9-1-1 network that caused it to crash. employees and outside vendors, like maintenance and electricians, can access the system through any of about 130 access points. though metro believes whoever caused the crash didn't do it on purpose, they admit it's a tough lesson learned to beef up security and close access points at individual computers
6:14 pm
7:34 michael barnbeck: it's just very unfortunate, but we continue to move forward so that we try to ensure that no other citizen has to deal with this. darcy tag: contact 13 learned this type of crash did happen one other time with a 9-1-1 system in san diego. 9-1-1 there is administered by the same vendor as our system. so they could have warned metro in advance about that possibility. in san diego, someone plugged in an external login recorder to capture calls, not knowing that it could cause a crash. that system was not live so there was no community impact. in the studio darcy spears, 13 action news. new developments on an alleged child abuse case involving a former music teacher at hayden elementary school. the parents of two students.. allegedly molested by the teacher.. are suing the district claiming administrators didn't do enough to protect their children. the students.. ages nine and ten.. claim jeremiah mazo would ask them to sit on his lap after class. one girl says mazo told her she

generally clear skies for southern nevada and temperatures a solid 10-15 above average. highs for the next several days will be in the 74-75 range with overnight lows around 47. very little change is expected through friday before a very weak low pressure area gains enough energy to gently nudge our high just east. that will pull temperatures down by a few degrees, but we should stay at or above 70 through the weekend just in time for another strong high to replace it from the west. winds will stay increase over sunday into monday as the replacement high builds in.
