win by that much. it was record-setting stuff. >> reporter: with jeb bush calling it quits, the battle to become the trump alternative pits the two cuban-american senators up against each other. trump, rubio sees reason for hope. over 70% of republicans have donald trump. >> reporter: donald trump continues to say cruz is ineligible to be president because he was born in canada. and today on "this week" george pressed him on something he retweeted that suggested that rubio is also ineligible. >> you're really not sure? >> i don't know. i've never looked at it. honestly, i've never looked at it. somebody said he's not, we retweeted it, we started a dialogue and it's very interesting. >> reporter: rubio laughed it off.

four hours later, in this car dealership parking lot, a father and his son shot and killed. within minutes, the gunman opens fire outside a cracker barrel restaurant. killing four in their car. including a former teacher, and wounding a 14-year-old girl. >> dispatch all units. suspect vehicle in a shooting. last seen at cracker barrel. >> reporter: just after midnight, police spot the suspect's vehicle and take him into custody without incident. the victims, police say, apparently selected at random. >> this is your worst nightmare. how do you go and tell the families of these victims that they weren't targeted for any reason other than they were there to be a target? >> reporter: 45-year-old dalton had no criminal record, and worked as an uber driver. his neighbors, in disbelief. >> it's scary. that could have been us, my daughter that got killed. >> reporter: tonight, authorities investigating

i'm lesley marin. in the lead-up to tuesday's republican caucuses...things got a little heated today at a ted cruz rally in pahrump. 13 action news reporter david schuman is here to tell us--what happened when a man wouldn't stop yelling and interrupting the texas senator. david. police had to escort the disruptive man out of the rally and cruz handled the incident with a smile...joking that the man must have been a bernie sanders supporter. it was actually his second joke of the day. one of the first things cruz did when he got on stage was break down the word "politics" for the crowd. 15:04:54 ted cruz, (r) texas "poli meaning many and ticks meaning blood- sucking parasites. laughter" cruz would keep that momentum going the rest of the day. people at the rally told 13 action news that he had come across as condescending in the debates and listening to him today he was much more down to earth. cruz finished in a virtual tie with marco rubio in yesterday's south carolina primary. both men trail behind donald trump....the man who's become a significant frontrunner. 14:41:44 cruz "it is becoing

are the one campaign that can beat donald trump. indeed, we are the only campaign that has beaten donald trump." he's referring there to his victory in the iowa caucuses earlier this month. marco rubio is holding a rally of his own tonight in north las vegas. as soon as i wrap up here i'm heading out the door and we'll have coverage of that event on our social media and tonight on 13 action news at 11. lesley. as david just reported.. florida senator marco rubio is set to hold a rally ahead of nevada's republican caucus on tuesday. it starts tonight at 7:30 at texas station. from there, rubio will take his campaign to elko, reno and minden for events tomorrow. now that florida governor jeb bush has dropped out of the race, nevada senator dean heller says he's endorsing marco rubio. heller said he's become convinced that rubio can unite conservatives and beat the democrats in the general election. heller will be joining rubio as he campaigns ahead of tuesday's caucuses.
