>> we love nevada. we will be celebrating for a long time tonight and soon the country is going to start winning, winning, winning. steve: you heard it right there, donald trump walking away from nevada with a major win tonight. thank you for joining us for this special election night edition of 13 action news and team coverage of the presidential caucus. tricia: donald trump declared the winner 30 minutes after the caucus crowed. steve: let's give you the latest numbers, trump with a comfortable double digit margin, victory over marco rubio and ted cruz who are still in a fairly close race, rubio 23% and ted cruz at 20%, dr. ben carson a distant fourth place with 6%. we have team coverage on

we will get to leslie as well as mahsa saeidi. tricia: we start things off with bryan callahan he's live at treasure island where donald trump energized the crowd with this victory speech. reporter: that victory speech lasted 10 minutes. trump made it clear this third straight victory is a sign of things to come. >> it is going to be an amazing two months. we might not even need the two months, folks, to be honest, all right. reporter: many in the audience waited two hours for trump to arrive here at the treasure island. during the speech trump got a large cheer while highlighting early results that showed he earned support of 46% of the

>> because you know the other candidates amount to 55%, so if they could just... they keep forgetting that when people drop out, we will get a lot of votes. they keep forgetting. they don't like say it. reporter: trump kept his speech short, didn't specifically mention his main opponent ted cruz or marco rubio, but he did say he likes the poll numbers coming out of both texas and, florida. steve: what are the trump supporters saying tonight about the importance of winning in nevada? reporter: trump himself actually addressed that during speech first of all thanking the volunteers on the ground here in nevada, talking about at the beginning of this race he was project today lose the nevada caucus and instead turning that into a very convincing 20-point

steve: thank you. tricia: our team coverage continues right now as ted cruz and his supporters celebrate their strong showing in the silver state. leslie marie joins us. reporter: when cruz took the stage, he was pretty optimistic despite coming in third place behind donald trump and marco rubio. he started his speech throwing kudos trump's way. >> i want to congratulate them on a strong evening tonight. reporter: he dint get much support with that remark, but was back on stage with the lieutenant governor of texas and attorney general and of course glenn beck. cruz thanked his supporters pushing optimistic toward super tuesday saying he believes it's a race between him and donald

of the competition. >> the undeniable reality the first four states have shown the only campaign has beaten donald trump and the only campaign that can beat donald trump in this camp. reporter: cruz says he will head back to texas where he will finally get to sleep in his own bed tonight before heading out again tomorrow before beginning his campaign in texas ahead of super tuesday. tricia: thank you. as for dr. ben carson his event is wrapping up right now at the embassy suites. they had a sit-down dinner waiting for results to come in. marco rubio started his day in las vegas holding a hallie in silverton casino first thing tomorrow. his family is from nevada.

more candidates will start dropping out of the race. steve: we are also closely following on what's been happening in caucus locations around the valley including something highly unusual at civil rodo high school. two people were spotted dressed up like members of the ku klux klan. reporter: i am told they were holding up signs for donald trump. >> donald trump is encouraging racism in america again and it's absolutely despickable to see this kind of behavior. reporter: the guy you just heard from was driving home past the high school and connects location tonight when he noticed the men in their hoods and gowns. he said to himself this can't be real. he pulled into the parking lot

they say they wanted to show support for donald trump. he told them by dressing as kkk members they are supporting racism and hatred. >> there could be a chance they were mocking trump. there's a chance that somebody has a sense of humor and trying to pull some publicity stunt of some type. reporter: police were call to the scene and state at the high school till the guys left. it was a scary sight to see for voters tonight. tricia: thank you. caucuses are normally a little chaotic and tonight was no different. chopper 13, first and fast, showing us right here just how long some of those lines got today as thousands of lavaens headed to their precincts. 13 action news reporter mahsa

things there went smoothly. reporter: the line was out thus door all the way to the street for several hours today, people coming before work, after work, with their kids all to make their bid for the republican candidate. >> everybody that comes in that tells you you can come in we have to support the law. >> we already have... [indiscernible]. let's support it. come here legally. reporter: democracy in action, this debate the most exciting thing that happened at the durango high school site. around the state unconfirmed reports of caucus chaos, running out of battles, i.d.s not being checked. the gop tonight tweeting there's no official reports of violation. one thing for sure even here when things went smoothly....

but i am not impressed. >> this is very chaotic. >> why would anybody notby for trump? reporter: signs of victory for the brash billionaire after all the votes were tallied by hand. >> all trump. reporter: donald trump won this location by a landslide. supporters were telling us.... >> i am really tired of the republican party, so i am kind of making my statement. reporter: still plenty did vote for the other two candidates. analysts say they still have a path to victory, the florida senator who spent part of this childhood here... . >> i am voting for ted cruz because he's a consistent conservative. reporter: and this field whittled down to just five from 17. some people tonight voting for jeb bush who dropped out after the south carolina primary. reporting live, mahsa saeidi, 13 action news. steve: thank you. some caucus sites got more foot

we received several calls from people at coronado high school saying they had run out of ballots. party officials tell that didn't happen, but the supply did get low. one woman we spoke with some people got very upset waiting for new ballots. >> there was so many of us that always video at the same place they changed their voting preference. we had really unhappy people. steve: volunteers at coronado high school say they were able to get more ballots from the republican national committee within a matter of minutes. tricia: it was smooth sailing at some caucus locations. stephanie zepelin sent hours appear arbor view high school at centennial hills where there weren't a lot of problems, just long lines. reporter: caucus taking place at arbor view high school, students voting for their class positions

the republican nomination. >> voting the stuff i earned by going vietnam. reporter: why come out? >> i want to make sure i am heard. >> shoot for cruz. >> we have been in line forskin hour and 15 minutes. reporter: is it worth it? >> yes, we got to change this country. it's all screwed up. >> you got to get out and vote. this is one of the most pivotal times in our country's history. reporter: folks who were in line earlier today saying it took them 30 minutes to get through. people still in line saying it's taking them an hour and a half. everyone we are talking to say it's worth the wait. they are glad to participate in this caucus and make their voices here and throughout the nation. steve: joining us now to talk more politics and the republican caucuses nick phillips the

clark county republican party. what do you make of the outcome tonight. >> this was a huge win for trump. we were expecting it for the last several of months he would be doing well. over the course of this last year the past several months he's been campaigning we have seen so many people jump on board. steve: probably equally as important would be the fight for second place between rubio and cruz. ted cruz got a big endorsement for adam especially in the rural counties where his father was popular years ago. it remains to be season if strategically not concentrating on the population centers as much as rubio did, how that will fall out. what are the stakes between those two candidates?

picking out who ot two of them can compete with donald trump going forward. donald trump as we have seen has the compassion of so many voters come out. he has a campaign staff here, but not nearly as large. steve: he had his sons out doing a lot of campaign for him. >> yeah. steve: do you think if rubio or cruz would drop out, there's so much bad blood between the two of them, that they would ever throw their support to the other one to take down donald trump? >> i would be surprised. steve: that's where we are if the establishment wants trump out of the ros, somebody needs to make big news. >> if the establishment wants somebody out of the ros, maybe. it seems more likely though cruz and rubio have been compared in some ways, their supporters seem to be very different. steve: you have to be excited about the level of enthusiasm

caucuses and waiting in long lines. where do you see that going forward toward the general election? >> with the numbers it was better and a smoother of a process. there were a few hiccups here and there, that's to be expected. that enthusiasm can translate going forward. i think in general republicans are much more concerned with the state of our country and where we are and been going in the wrong direction for a long time and very concerned. here we are we have a lot of great candidates who threw their hat in the ring and see who comes out of it. steve: we will have a lot of hard numbers to look at tomorrow and toward the end of the week, too. >> yeah. steve: thanks so much. >> thanks a lot. steve: we appreciate your time and we will be hearing from you between now and the end of the campaign season. >> sounds great. tricia: for the first time ever cell phones have an important

tonight's republican caucuses. 13 action news rod explains how cell phones played a huge role in this. reporter: precinct captains are in charge of counting the votes. as each voter casts their battles the captain in each caucus writes down their votes on a piece of paper and each captain will take a cell phone picture of those results and then forward that picture to the county gop chairman to confirm the numbers. last time it took two days to tally the votes correctly and this change is aimed at speeding up the process. candidates are hoping their passionate supporters will be able to sway voters to their guide during the caucus. this entire process should take about 30 to 60 minutes, but

held a gun to her head. police arrived and arrested them less than a block away. >> i thought it was going to die. i am glad i didn't. steve: metro says the suspects may be connected to other valley home invasions irk metro needs your help tonight trying to track down three people caught on camera ran sacking a valley home. the break in happened last month. here you can see the men walk in and then start going through stuff. at one point the man on the left sade of your screen spots the camera and makes a surprising face and tries to turn the camera. metro is no longer investigating the death of a woman found dead in a laundry shoot at the d valley hotel. here death was originally being investigated as suspicious. brown's family says she was in town with her husband celebrating her birthday.
