/ nats nina from file pkg : another suspected police impersonator is under arrest here in las vegas and police say his car looked like the real deal. the car was a retired nevada highway patrol cruiser. and investigators said suspect bradley wedge used it to pull over at least five vehicles in eight months. 4:03 michal: it's not good for those vehicles to be out in the public. michal manda of las vegas auto sports had clients who did something similar with a highway patrol vehicle purchased in washington state. 1:57 michal: so they were driving in henderson and they actually got pulled over over there because they were going behind people and turning the lights on. remember the movie? 20th century fox movie trailer "let's be cops": "where'd you get this thing?" steve sisolak. 12:42 sisolak: and you're impersonating an officer as far as i'm concerned if you're driving that vehicle. all of these are vehicles contact 13 spotted on valley roads in the past few months. metro says beginning in 2013, they started painting all decommissioned patrol vehicles solid white. and removing push bumpers, spotlights and residual adhesive left behind from removing decals. but look at what contact 13 found for sale at a recent government auction. striping, spotlights and visible markings on motorcycles and cars alike. 9:20 darcy : a new paint job could take care of that. sisolak: a can of spray paint could take care of that. commissioner sisolak was most disturbed... 11:14 sisolak: holy cow! ... by these clark county school district cop cars, which could give anyone easy access to school campuses. 9:39 sisolak: i can't see why anyone would want to buy the vehicle and have police markings on there unless they were gonna use it for something that it shouldn't be used for.
11:15 pm
labor intensive and cost-prohibitive to remove all the markings. and they don't believe anyone would confuse these for working cop cars. plus... 14:57 darcy: there's no law that says you have to make it look like a civilian vehicle before you sell it. do you believe that's a loophole? 15:02 sisolak: if they're not gonna do it voluntarily then i think it should be addressed by revised statutes that the vehicles have to look like a regular pedestrian or regular citizenry vehicle. darcy stand-up tag: no one from metro would go on-camera for this story. they do not keep statistics on how many decommissioned patrol vehicles are used in crimes or to impersonate officers. henderson, north las vegas police and nevada highway patrol say it's their policy to scrub vehicles clean of law enforcement markings before selling them. darcy spears, 13 action news. a colorado teen is left with severe burns to his leg and hand..... after he says..... a vapor smoking device
