the smoke and the soot. so far air quality is good. henderson, spring valley, downtown, east las vegas, we are looking good now. we'd love it to stay that way. the last fire we had, we got haze in the valley. it put us into the moderate category. at times it will get us to the unhealthful category for sensitive groups, if you have respiratory issues, it will make a difference. valley smoke is possible. we don't want to count it out. the air quality is good so far. our forecast for tonight. you can see from the bluecut fire, we'll see winds c a little bit more, so really pushing all that smoke and soot in here for tonight is not as likely as it could be for tomorrow. temperatures drop as well. but we'll take a look at temperatures, wind speeds for tomorrow, and see how strong they get to push the soot and smoke in the stream. once again, so far the air quality is good. >> tricia: i actually just want to give you an update on the traffic situation now. since the 15 is completely shut down, there are some options for

this area altogether. i want to give you an idea of where we're talking about. northbound 15, shut down right here kenwood avenue and southbound right near ran -- rancher road. take highway 138, other wise you'll be stuck in traffic. san bernardino has 102 engines, 15 crews, eight helicopters, eight air tankers. we do want to give them room to work. it is dangerous for everyone out there. altogether, that's absolutely going to be your best option. back to you. >> tricia: an update on the other breaking news we've been following all day, a suspect is now in custody after an armed robbery inside a t.j. maxx store in centennial hills. we have live team coverage for you. let's begin with leslie, who is on the scene, as the standoff came to an end. >> reporter: things are back to

literally saw people running out of this t.j. maxx as s.w.a.t. surrounded this store. take a look at this. you can see mothers and their children who were stuck inside as s.w.a.t. surrounded the area. coming out. police say this started around 1:30 p.m. when a man was harassing a woman inside the t.j. maxx, they then made it outside and he began waving a gun, eventually robbing the woman. nhp was able to get here in just minutes, arresting the man. witnesses told police there was possibly another suspect in the store. we spoke to one mother who evacuated the store with her four children. >> we heard them yell, everybody get down. me and another girl and her little 2-year-old, we -- i was in the bathroom but we saw the exit and ran out. >> once police got inside the store, they did not find anyone. they're unsure if there was ever a second suspect. let's go ahead and turn it over to our reporter who spoke to

solar companies, they won that in court. then the company announced just yesterday that they were shutting down a coal plant early and starting a big solar plant in boulder city. today we had the biggest news of all, which is their neutral on this, they have these principles they want to articulate. i posted it on our website. what would that mean? no mormon only. >> that would be something. i know a lot of people have complained about that over the years, but a lot of the gaming market to buy power, haven't they? mgm resorts, they have solar panels on some of their hotels. >> they do. mgm has been in the forefront of the renewable energy push. the deregulation question is being funded so far by las vegag has to pass twice. it's a constitutional amendment. but the power company is just

>> bryan: actually, we're here at 15 and ran chair a road, where southbound traffic is being turned around. if you look this way, firefighters are leading some vehicles out of the burn area just before -- you can see in the distance flames licking offense one of the peaks. fairly close to the fire right now. fire crews making their way out, but the fire is still burning in this you can see smoke on both sides of the 15 down here as traffic is being turned around. a ton of smoke just in this area being blown by the wind. we are seeing out here right now. the traffic is being turned around. a lot of cars just stopping on the other side of this overpass, trying to wait out this fire, hoping the 15 will reopen soon, as fire crews are leading some people out out of the burned ar. trying to get them to a safer area as this fire continues to

monitor the situational night and keep you updated on ktnv and ktnv.com. reporting live, bryan callahan, 13 action news. >> we're on top of a major developing story out of louisiana. the governor says at least 40,000 homes have been impacted by the historic floods in the southern part of the state. now the search for survivors continues as an eighth body has been recovered from the floodwaters in baton rouge. christina survived hurricane katrina, and for her, the time. >> it was nothing lake this. it was a lot of displaced people, a pig area, -- big area but this is a whole town washed away overnight. >> the rising tides and rivers, streams means the flooding continues. >> we're dealing with extreme heat that we just can't seem to escape. >> not just yet. and maybe tomorrow some more haze from the fires in california. so we'll be watching very closely. take a look outdoors. we're not seeing that tonight. air quality is good. good news.

of shots out of barstow and victorville and that's where it's heaviest. no surprise it's parked itself there. it won't take much to get it into the and to hangover the valley for tomorrow. 106 pahrump. we're not seeing any haze there, seeing the air quality change just yet. 108, mesquite. big numbers for this time of year. numbers should be coming down. we should be low 100s. we will see weekend. good news. you can be a little more patient and everything will be fine. flirting with records today. several degrees off. wind is more of a concern over the next few days than the temperatures now, know that that is happening down south. how about wednesday, maybe peaking at right around 30-mile-per-hour southwesterly winds, that's all it takes to get the haze in the valley. even thursday we keep the breezy conditions in. not so much for friday and saturday. temperatures will follow suit. let me show you louisiana.

some break they're getting. some areas are, others areas not so much. that's a lot of rain. just slow and steady, and that's exactly what they don't need right now. closer in, california could use some rain. we're not seeing it there. we're not seeing it here. pull out a little more and you'll see no one seems to be getting any of that. it's all out toward the east in arizona. so temperatures will still be on the warm side for another day. 113 for loughlin. overnight lows pretty nice in the 70s in a couple areas. searchlight. 78 in mount 53 for the morning low. 100, sandy valley. some areas will come down, other areas not so much. indian springs at 100. our valley areas will stay rather rich. 109, overton. expect that to continue. boulder city at 110. definitely looking at those temperatures staying rather warm for one more day at least before we start to see them come down. definitely seeing numbers look pretty interesting.

>> we are continuing to follow breaking news right now out of the cajon pass and the bluecut governor brown has declared a state of emergency in san bernardino county, due to this fire that is burning right now. we're hearing that just about 750 firefighters are battling this fire that has grown to more than 6500 acres. it is shutting down the interstate. 15 is shut down in both directions right now. and crews are saying the fire is acting erratically because they're also battling winds. so for a while they thought the fire was heading north but now it's just going in every direction, so crews are throwing

again, a state of emergency has been declared. back to you. >> tricia: unbelievable. we hear about squatters all the time, and that's why 13 action news started our squatter spotters reports. for some, dealing with squatters inside a home that you own has turned into a total nightmare. but now the laws have changed and there are things you can do to get them out. so imagine you own this home right here, and all of a sudden one of your neighbors says to you, guess have a squatter living in your home. that's what happened to peggy. she wants to get to the bottom of what's been going on at this home. she was in the process of short-selling. someone has reportedly taken up residence in her empty property. suddenly she's forced into being a landlord, so her first question she wanted to know is -- >> i had never been in this situation before and i didn't know what to do. >> where do i turn? that's a question a lot of people here in southern nevada

getting a squatter out has gotten a whole lot easier thanks to the new anti-squatting law that went into effect in october of 2015. >> i called 311 and told them what was happening. they came out that day. >> it's not just a civil issue but a criminal one, and you can report a squatter to police. some departments even have a squatter task force who are nailing professional squatters who break into foreclosed homes or homes being short saled. in the past, it was a total nightmare. eviction process, basically squatters have some rights. that's now changed, and it's really helped homeowners, landlords and real estate agents deal with the issue. so like peggy and many others, if you discover a squatter, make sure you report the crime. the school year is just around the corner, and with it, some major changes are on the way. lawmakers just met today to discuss breaking up the clark county school district. those in favor of it say it will

>> breaking news now, quick and fierce, a massive wildfire dubbed the cut fire is waging through the pass. it started small around 10:30, spreading fast, more than 6500 acres. take a look at where this is at the cajon pass, right next to the 15 between las vegas and los angeles, very close to devore, in the san bernardino county. place. we have team coverage, bryan callahan, right on the edge of the fire. we get to him in a bit first, what do you see, gino? >> sorry about the wind. we pulled off north of victorville here and we have a pretty impressive view of what this fire is doing. i'm going to let my photographer show you. we'll start with, look at the sun. it is hot pink. you can tell from the flames, mixed with the smoke, and then if you pan over a little bit, you see much darker smoke and then the contrast of where there isn't any smoke anymore shows
