this afternoon. actor gene wilder -- famous for his role in willy wonka has assed away. that's according to his attorney. wilder is also known for starring in 1967 film "the producers" and later in the monster movie spoof "young frankenstein." wilder's nephew says the actor died in stamford, connecticut due to complications from alzheimer's disease. wilder was 83 years old. the clark county school disctrict is now in session. money from a grant is being younger students away from mom & dad for just a little longer -- for the first time, kindergarten is full time. 13 action news reporter marissa kynaston is explaining why some say the change is so important. the goal here-- is to make sure kids are ready to read before they enter first grade. take vo but doubling up on instructional time-- is a big change for both students-- and teachers. one of the challenges-- is to make sure the children can concentrate for that amount of time. administrators say on average-- kindergartners can only

hanging on. a 63 year old woman died yesterday at callville bay. rangers believe she was snorkeling, but did not have a life jacket on. hours before that, a man and a young girl were airlifted to umc after a tubing accident at lake mohave. park rangers say the rope pulling them snapped, and the riders were whipped to the shore. then - on saturday, a police officer from florida died while scuba diving. according to our sister station in tampa, the officer was a 27 year veteran. new orleans is remembering the devastation caused by hurricane katrina ... eleven years after the storm. katrina made landfall on august 29th 2005 between grand isle, louisiana and the mouth of the mississippi river. the category three storm killed more than 18-hundred people... and displaced more than one million people in the gulf region.... fema has called katrina "the single most catastrophic natural disaster in u-s history.... remember that california judge

the character he created onscreen. so far, a consumer alert for drivers mazda is recalling nearly 200-thouusand s-u-v's. the automaker says there is a potentially dangerous defect in the steering control. the recall is for the c-x-7 vehicles... made between february of 2006 and may of 2012. federal safety officials say water can get into the steering controls. they are worried the corrosion could cause serious problems with the steering wheel. mazda dealers will replace the a new jersey officer puts his own life on the line to save a man from being run over by a train-- "he said 'i just want to die, i just want to die, i just want to die', i said no, i'm not going to let you die," you cann see the man laying on the tracks friday morning... and the officer is trying to get him up. the man keeps resisting, but the cop isn't giving up. finally the officer pulls him off.. and seconds later you see the train go by.

the judge is now only handling civil cases. meanwhile, turner is expected to be released from jail friday, after serving half of his sentence. two united airlines pilots are in serious trouble. they were arrested just before take-off... accused of being too drunk to fly! the pilots were taken into custody saturday morning in scotland. their flight was heading to new jersey. 141 passengers were on board when police made the arrest. sot shelley wade, passen i'm really really happy somebody had the strength to report that they were concerned whether or not the pilot was drunk the plane took off nearly 12 hours later. the pilots have been suspended by the airline. they are expected in court today. if covicted, they could spend up to two years in prison. listen up teachers-- just in time for the start of the new school year... mcdonald's wants to give you money! it is positively las
