9:06 am
state. there was 13 universities to choose from and we had to go find one. we had to spend out of state tuition and it was pretty expensive. it was just something that nevada needed with the amount of firefighters that are within the state. all that out of state tuition has going somewhere else. it should have been staying here. so put together a program and fortunately, the board of regents approved it this past june. >> this is great. it sounds l fill ago need. seems like there is a lot of chance for growth for this program as well, right? >> there is. in the fire service, back when i started, you didn't have to have degrees. maybe if you you wanted to be te fire chief, you had to have an associate's degree or masters degree. it depended on the department. but over -- since 1999, fire departments, especially here in las vegas, started requiring degrees to either be a captain,

officer. so you'd see that on your career path. i've been on two years and eight years, here is where i see myself. to be able to compete for that position, i have to go get an education. so we were all going out of state. so now we're here in state. so the numbers are really starting to grow. we anticipate our bachelor's program, the numbers to get much higher. we've got 17 in our first class. >> great. >> that's just with word of mouth. we'll start nationally. there is only 14 programs in the country. >> no kidding. wow. >> that's so cool! >> it's phenomenal. >> this is exciting because now instead of going out of state, you'll have people coming in state potentially. >> correct. >> and then perhaps, hey, you want to be a firefighter, we could use some help. let's talk about the dallass for csn. they started on monday. is it too early to get started? is it sorry, you'll have to wait

9:09 am
the fire program is so exciting. i did an explorer program in high school. and everybody was looking for the upper hand. for us to have this here at csn, on our campus and state is huge. how important is our fire department? it's huge. >> exciting, the program. can i try the hat on? >> oh, boy. >> you bet. >> shawn, you began be jealous? okay. not only can people enroll right now or people looking for financial aid. is there any available. >> the awards have been given out for fall and spring. that's working. >> knock on that, buddy. yeah. >> that's pretty solid. >> are there any women in the program? >> there are. quite a few. >> yes! >> we have females instructing also. >> really?
9:10 am
there we go. great having you guys. thank you so much. >> thank you for having us. >> very exciting time. college of southern nevada. we have three main campuses. las vegas, north las vegas and henderson. registration is open through september 4. you can also check them out on facebook or twitter. they're just doing phenomenal things. very happy to have that in our state. still to come, the award winning texas ten special performance. why to catch them live tonight as the blend rolls on. stay with us.

9:14 am
so all of the fluids and liquids are removed from the body, and then they're put in a vacuum and impregnated with liquid silicone. basically in theory, they are silicone now. but they once were this hand once moved. >> wow. >> that head once was on someone's body. >> that's a head? >> wow. >> you talk about an mri, you see these slices that the doctors or physicians look at, these what they are looking at. so this is you can obviously this is the brain. the entire head. you can see the cavity around the brain, if there is too much fluid in the brain. there is a loft different techniques to determine the health of your heads. >> speaking of brains, we happen to have one. >> what's cool about this. is it okay to pick this up? >> if you're really careful. >> i just want to make sure we get the shot. >> don't move it off. >> i won't. >> what's cool about this is when you do hold it, you can hold it for him if you want.
9:15 am
see the nerve bundles and then as they come out. we have a beautiful spes-in the exhibition that the back is dissected. you can see where all these little nerve endings happen. >> these are the nerve endings? >> yeah. these are nerve bundles. they get much thinner. >> can i pick this up? >> sure. >> it's so interesting because people with back pain, you have a little tweak in your back and you just picture, what is it that's bothering me? and here we go. >> that's one of the cool things exhibition. they see some kind of ailment that either they have or someone they love has. so we have also some pathology specimens. so you can see cancer. you can see gallbladder. you can see kidney stones. so let's say you have car pal tunnel, you might come in the move gallery. this is more of a muscular specimen. but you can see what the carpals

much computer work or whatever, you can see what it looks like. not only do you this this anatomy and frizz congresswoman, we go further and get into interesting cultural connection that we all share as humans. >> i think we have a disconnection when we hear carpal tunnel or we hear cancer or whatever it might be. because it's all within this rather -- we see it on the screen, but don't see it, see it. >> that's right. do you know what the largest organ in your body is? th the skin. we have a piece of skin which is a little bit disturbing, i have to say for some people. >> you actually have the skin? >> we have the skip. it's the largest organ in the body, one of the most important muscles in the body is the heart. 'cause think about it. we don't think about it. we sleep, we eat. we walk. right now -- it's going.
9:17 am
ailments. a lot of people have knee replacements or knee pain. if you tore your acl, you might not know what it looks like. but here it is. you can really understand how the femur connects through the knee into the tibia. you can just relate to these -- we also have a knee replacement in the exhibit. we have an area called repair at the end where we talk about taking care of yourself. we show a lot of sort of techniques and ways that doctors use to spread muscles apart to get to areas or bone grafts or >> here next to us, you could bring this to the table, to the slot machines. show them the before and after. >> this is an example of a healthy lung. actually child's lungs are pink. but in all of us, at a very early age. as we breathe in just pollutants and regular stuff. now if you are in a highly, highly polluted area or you spend a lot of time spoking, like a lot of time smoking, this
9:18 am
now. >> blackened. >> here is a good example of a healthy and a diseased lung. >> just profound. >> crazy. >> this is so interesting for people of all ages, i think. if you are my age, i am. i'm thinking about what ailments i have and how shawn's brain is. you're doing really neat things in this exhibit. you can get married? >> yeah. we've of graveyards next to churches, they ran out of room. so they pulled up bones and put them in the base of the church. you hear of the kata combs in paris. they created shrines with these bones. in our exhibit, we created a little chapel, where you can go get married. so it's on the screen now. >> no kidding. >> it's beautiful. >> this exhibit is not just
9:19 am
it's about who we are and what we do and think about with our bodies. so a great thing we talk about in this exhibit is when you die, you get cremated or buried or whatever. well, in gana, they have fantasy coffins. so if you were an airplane pilot, you might be buried at sea. if you're a fisherman, you might be get buried in a giant fish. so for you guys, like a camera or chair. >> i'm going to be buried in a bad joke. >> it's great having you. really incredible stu >> so interesting. thank you. >> we're at bally's and at the lower level called real bodies with bally's. it's a -- i hope you can see it firsthand. there is nothing like seeing it. >> they are local military student and senior discounts. they get $2 off the ticket price there is also group rates for parties of ten or more. >> real bodies is open 10:00 a.m. daily. for more information, call the number on the screen or head to the web site. >> up next on the "morning

you've seen it before, forms that come in the mail about uninsured and/or underinsured motorist coverage. what exactly is that and do you really need it? hint, you do. take the question marks away. lloyd baker is here with the answers we need. great havin >> thank you. >> underinsured, uninsured, motorist coverage. >> most people have no idea what that is. >> it is life flood, then the valley. what is it? >> well, it helps protect you when somebody is not insured. and/or if they're underinsured. the problem in nevada is we only have $15,000 as the minimum. other states have higher policies. here, 15,000 doesn't cover anything. so if you're hurt, you go to the hospital, you're done.
9:50 am
>> exactly. >> so this protects everybody in your family and your vehicle. so critical, critical to have it. i tell all my clients to get it. i tell everybody i know to get it. when i worked for insurance companies, i told them to get it. it's cheap, too. super cheap. >> you're saving maybe 10, $20 tops. >> yeah. >> maybe even less than that when it's split over the terms of the month. >> if you look at it as okay, i'm protecting my family, how much insurance do you want to have? there is a lot of people r around with a million. >> wow. >> a million dollars u.m. coverage. so at least 500. very, very least, 100. because you get any kind of a surgery or anything, and you're done. that money is gone. >> is it particularly important in the valley? i've heard -- i don't know if it's truthful, that there is a lot of uninsured or underinsured people in nevada. is that the case, more than other places? >> absolutely. >> wow.

countries that don't have much, sometimes don't have any. the minimal on a rental car is only 15. so if you get hit by somebody driving a rental car from somewhere else, the only coverage is 15,000. so you just as well have it. it protects everybody. the cool thing about u.m. coverage. m. is for uninsured motorist coverage. u.i.m. is for underinsured motorist coverage. that stuff stacks. so everybody in your household that h on to your coverage. so let's say you're very injured. you have $250,000 surgery. the guy has 15,000 that hit you. you have 100 u.m., you're at 115 now. anybody in your household, i've stacked grandmas, i've stacked brothers and sisters. i've stacked people that are just renting from each other. anybody in that household that has u.m. coverage stacks on top of that.
9:52 am
because of u.m. coverage is stacked. >> wow. >> so if you're injured, you definitely need this kind of coverage. >> this is why it's great to have you here 'cause you're not just an attorney. before this you were working for the insurance companies. >> i was. >> so you know the ins and outs of this. you know how the system is if i neagleed and how you can use it to your best advantage. >> absolutely. it's sad that so many people don't understand that. i ran into attorneys that didn't know that. >> wow. >> i've really established firm. had a death case, had no idea they were telling them is this is all the coverage there is. they came to us, we got them 200,000 more in u.m. coverage. >> wow (that was a grandson and a daughter in the same household and we stacked their coverage. >> my goodness. the system is almost confusing on purpose perhaps. so being able to clear up the haziness and try to figure out
