home stretch... new cnn-o-r-c poll shows a dead heat between democrat hillary clinton and republican donald trump. the survey - which was conducted by phone between september first and fourth - finds trump leading clinton by two percentage points ... 45- to 43-percent among likely voters. it's a significant tightening from the seven-point lead clinton held after the democratic national convention. cnn's poll follows several other surveys released in august ... which also show a shrinking candidates. clinton -- in must-win florida tuesday. on the way, she joked with the press corps on her campaign plane ... that she can't take her doctor's advice after monday's coughing fit: (hillary clinton/(d) presidential nominee) "better. now the advice of course is just don't talk for a day or two (laughter) yeah, that's not gonna work for me. the plan would take effect at the beginning of next school year. a historic riverboat capsizes on the sacramento river. you can see the 87-foot boat upside down in the water. divers are assessing the situation to come up with a plan to flip the boat upright. but there's another problem. the boat is leaking more than 600 gallons of diesel fuel. us skip the polls -- and the heartburn -- altogether? our national political correspondent mike sacks shows us what could do it. mike: if i told you that there was some method that for the last 30 years accurately predicted every presidential race for the last thirty years, but without using polls, would you trust that? gretchen peck: no. [laughs] no. mike: would you think that's science fictiony? lana hochheiser: no, i don't think that's science fictiony. anthony kim: i think the questions would be very important, but i don't think necessarily that there's a set of questions that would from american university. he created a model that has accurately predicted every presidential election since 1984. lichtman: this doesn't depend upon the polls or any conventional way of looking at elections. mike vo gfx: instead, lichtman developed thirteen so-called keys based on how favorable the political environment is for the party that holds the white house going into the election -- today, that's the democrats.
