night. tell us about m.e.n.u.s. >> it's for the epicurean charitable foundation. there's about a thousand attendees every year. they have been doing this for three years now. it's for a really good cause. wendy has been working with me for about two years now, and she went through that program in order to get a scholarship to go to school and be in this industry. >> m.e.n.u.s is an opportunity for you to come out, all that the city has to offer. >> i think it -- i think we have 30 restaurants there, 30 or 40. but this dish is one of the dishes that will be featured. >> what is that? >> this is bourbon braced pork belly. one of two dishes. >> okay. what's the other dish?

and add cheese sauce. >> cheese sauce you can never go wrong. let's talk about your experience in menus. what does m.e.n.u.s stand for? >> mentoring, educated nevada upcoming students. basically m.e.n.u.s is the biggest fundraising event ecf does to raise money for students coming in next year. it was a great experience. it was awesome. they're always on top of me, making sure my grades were good. also we got paired up with -- >> here is somebody, go ahead. >> they were really investing in you. and they really care about like if you're having trouble, like they pair you up with somebody like an accounting person for your accounting classes, and say we'll help you with your math or help you with this. it's awesome. you have so many other students you can talk to. if you're having a hard time with that class you know they'll give you insight. >> it's so great because this

what is your goal? what are your dreams? >> i want to become a chef one day. >> you have a job now. >> yes, i do. i work at the foundation room. >> that's great. >> great mentor. >> i'm just -- there is a lot of people that would like to do -- go into the culinary world. they don't have necessarily the funds to get there or going to be a m.e.n.u.s is helping make this possible for some people because there is so much help needed in this city. >> that's why it's good for our chefs to be involved with this, because i started from the bottom as a dishwasher. >> now you're here. >> now i'm here. so it's good to see all these guys and girls getting involved with this program. it's -- it makes us chefs feel proud. >> you don't take just anybody, because you're looking for

despite all the talk about the importance of saving for retirement, a new report from franklin templeton shows fewer people are saving for their golden years. even though there is an uptick in salaries. joining us to talk about it this morning are issue ashton and nick strobelt. referred to as southern nevada's retirement brothers.

>> all right. we're flushing out the new apple announcement as you can tell. but speaking of people spending money and being optimistic let's talk about planning for retirement. and are people optimistic when -- >> not really, no. they're not optimistic, because they don't have the confidence in their own ability to save. only 50% of americans right now are saving -- a single penny saved for retirement. >> wow. >> so one half of americans have zero, no dollars, no pennies, nothing. there is no money saved for retirement. and so if you follow that rabbit down the rabbit hole, how are people going to have any income? pensions are gone. do either of you have a pension? and that's okay. because unless you work for the state, unless you work for the federal government, most private companies don't offer a pension. if you don't have a pension, and half of americans aren't saving for retirement -- am i the only one doing the math here? social security, say $2,300 a

what social security would pay. ask yourself could you live on 2,000 to $2,500 a month? and that's a big problem. it's coming and i don't think enough people are doing anything about it. >> it's beyond instilling confidence because you can be confidence and not be ready. how do we get people confident and ready? >> get people confident. come on. fix this. >> okay. buy the iphone. you're a hater. that's okay. i want him to convince me not to buy the iphone. >> i don't think anything i can say will convince you not to buy it. it's providing education to people so they know we need to save because the future is not going to look good for us if we keep going on the current path. you know, if you look at the lifestyle of most people, they maybe have a couple kids, buy a house, all their money is going into that. and then the neighbors have nice car that they want to keep us r

get to 50, 60, they look at their bank account and say hey, i am really late. i got to do something. and by that time, it's not quite too late for most people if you are aggressive at that point, just really tough. you have to be disciplined but you can still get there. >> you're helping people clear the air and get a laser focus on what they should be doing. >> to help people get optimistic. a book is a book. this is a great book to start. but as soon as someone makes the my retirement, my financial situation in the future serious enough to get a book and crack the cover,er that's at least the first step. the next step comes i'm going to start putting in $20 a month. >> apply the can into. >> start doing something. this is a good book, tells you what type of financial strategist are the best to get you through to retirement. so that is where we feel like this book and that's why we're offering it to viewers. >> this is a great first step. you have to commit to the learning process.
