of the orleans, about 3,000 people come out for this. we do it as a community resource event for the public. it's completely free. >> awesome. >> free, free, free. for many families we did a spotlight senior guide -- let m- >> this is the first time, i've been talking about -- i haven't seen it yet. >> full of information. >> exactly. many of the people that are in that guide will be at the spectacular. we found a lot of don't have a lot of time to actually go out and make phone calls, so finding out and call them up. but at our event they can talk to people and get questions answered and there is a lot of resource association. the alzheimer's association will be there. many of the hospitals will be there with health information. >> in addition to those groups, we have a lot of focus on veterans. is that right? >> yes. we have a lot of veterans that come out.

as a benefit for one of our local veterans organizations and this year we're sponsoring the veteran's transition resource center. and thanks to our community partners with healthcare partners, and also with palm mortuary, a lot of the donations go right to them. >> that's awesome. let's talk about this. the veteran's transition resource center, what is it, who do you serve? >> well, the purpose is to fill the gap of there in the community because of the services out there. we just build a platform for all these agencies and nonprofits, and for profits, collaborate to better serve veteran community and especially the families, as well. but we also serve the active duty service members, as well. so -- and in addition to what we do, we provide different

modalities, martial arts for the children. suicide awareness and prevention and also education of the va health care and disability benefits, as well as helping them appeal their denied va claims. >> wow. >> great services. this -- i'm looking at the spotlight services guide. it comes out in the fall and winter. twice yearly. >> yes, twice a year. and it's the leading senior guide that is used for all the social workers and here, all the hospitals, many of our skilled nursing facilities and assisted living. it's a one book where you can find all the resources, and we check all the licensing so we know that the people that we're referring -- it is a full list of licensed providers. when we do the spectacular, people get to meet them, which is wonderful, and ask questions. palm and healthcare partners will be there.

time. let me tell you. all right. this is fun. tell me about the event. the sixth year. >> this is the sixth year, and it is a lot of fun, but it's for a serious issue, as you mentioned. we bring the community together, a city wide event. and just coming to combat human trafficking specifically in las vegas. and it's amazing how many people i talk to that really have idea of the severity of the issue, and this is why we decided to, you know, we need to do something about it. and this is what it's turned into, and keeps growing and getting bigger and bigger, and we had record crowds every year. and every year we highlight one to three different organizations, local grassroots organizations that receive the funding, which is why marlene is

the organizations that will be highlighted this year. >> shade tree is a beautiful place. tell me about what you do at shade tree. >> we are such a large shelter serving women and children and their pets in crisis. and part of the people from our community, of course, that are in crisis are human trafficking survivors. and so after they have been rescued, we're able to provide shelter, medical care, meals, clothing, and a plan on moving forward. and that's the most important part, because not course, do we have to find them and help them get out of the situation they're in, but we also have to give them hope on moving forward. >> absolutely. marlen, give me an idea. human trafficking is an issue worldwide. but it has special relevance in las vegas, as well. >> we are a tourist destination.

being so transient that we have people moving to new neighborhoods, coming in from other parts of the country for work and to enjoy our great weather, we also then don't necessarily know our neighbors, as well, or know what's normal for our neighborhood and so the kind of things that are happening in brothels held in homes, also in businesses across our community, it's very easy to hide that kind of situation. and so thanks to our law enforcement, outreach activities in our community, they're able to find the people that are being trafficked and rescue them. and then bring them into the shelters that are in our community, to help serve them. we're one of those shelters. >> you house a lot of people, and like you mentioned pets, as well. now, with human trafficking, there is a predator usually who recruits somebody. what can people be aware of?

>> so for the young victims, they are being recruited through facebook, being recruit at their schools, in malls, social media is a huge way, of course, to get to our kids now that so many are on the internet, through their phones. and outside of their parent's view or their care girls view, and that's one of the primary ways that they're being targeted. but also in other places where kids are are there. and they can find the ones that are vulnerable, the ones that don't have a strong family life, or might be emotionally challenged in ways that they're not fitting in. and they can hone in on that and say i have the answer for you. i'm all you ever dreamt of and that starts the disaster. >> well, it certainly is a disaster and it's beautiful that you're doing something about it, lacheyva.

i felt extremely fortunate to be part of this. and you know, paige is one of the reasons i feel extremely fortunate. and all of the animaters, and the directors and our producer, and the studio, everyone -- i mean, we had some of the most talented people i've ever worked with on this film, a heart, you know, and soul, is really up there in the movie. and -- >> it's true. >> and -- >> it's a rare thing when everything comes together like that. >> so rare. so rare. and we're lucky. i mean, i feel so lucky. >> i do, too. >> i've always felt that way. and i married the -- so i feel extremely lucky.
