about the stadium extremely clear. 13 action news.... political analyst jon ralston sat down with steve wynn... and... talked about why he says... las vegas.... needs this. no one understands the las vegas economy as steve wynn does. he foresaw trends before anyone else. almost 30 years ago, the mirage ushered in the megaresort era. today, wynn says, the one project that could transform the future of las vegas is a professional football stadium. wynn: i've been here since '68. '67. nothing. nothing since the change in law that allowed public financing of our industry, which provided the capital---nothing is as big a deal to the state of nevada---not just las vegas, as the nfl---as professional sports coming to this city. wynn said the stadium would be

going forward in the competition for tourists. he could barely contain his enthusiasm. wynn: it is the final---the final crown--on making sure that las vegas is the most viable destination resort in the country along with orlando and new york. it's the one arrow that's missing in our quiver, to use an archer's...metaphor? analogy. if the nfl comes, the nba will be here. the nhl has already awarde and we've got the stadiums that mgm has built---the beautiful t-mobile stadium, and if we build a football stadium, we'll get some european soccer here in the summer. we will get...we're gonna build it big enough, i hope, for the super bowl with 70,000 seats. this is the perfect city for the super bowl. and every single home game will give us a chance to create the

wynn also called unsophisticated any criticism of using room tax to fund the stadium. that's because the stadium would tick up occupancy rates as much as 10 percent, wynn told me. and room taxes are paid by tourists. wynn: by having professional sports, we increase the occupancy in this city. we increase the security...the certainty that the amount will flow from the room tax to all the people who benefit from it...adding the stadium and adding to the roo the cash flow of the room tax to the people who benefit from it even stronger. it makes the general fund of the state even stronger. it underwrites the job security of the employees even more. it increases the profitability of the hotels, which allows for expansion. this is what the free market is

understand that unless there's growth, things shrink. las vegas needs professional sports. the room tax is paid by folks who come from out there to here. wynn said he has been very involved in helping his friend, sheldon adelson, with the stadium. and he believes the nfl owners will approve it in january. snyder, dean spanos, owners of they think it's a good idea. they believe that we can get the 24 votes out of 32 that it takes to move a franchise. wynn thinks it would be a huge missed opportunity if the legislature doesn't approve the stadium financing plan. wynn: if we miss this opportunity, we oughta be arrested. tag: wynn said he feels so strongly about the stadium that
