doing something like pressure washing now while it's still a little warm. it's something, even if you don't have a pressure washer, represent one for the day. it will be 100 bucks. totally worth it. go and it will be so gratifying because you're going to clean your driveway. it will change color. it's gonna freshen the whole curb appeal of the house and remove the debris around the house, which makes it way safer when your guests come to and from during the holiday season. also check the weather stripping on your doors. that's an easy thing that you flashlight trick, but wait 'til dark, have a friend on the inside of the house, shine it around the doorjamb, if you see light, you'll need more weather stripping. make sure your caulk is in good working order on the window sills and the flashing above the window. make sure all the bug spray is up to date and your insulation in your attic has no mishaps. like not piled up in a corner or a little bit too shallow in another area where maybe a

i love connected home equipment. it's come to a place now to where it's so cost effective and it really translates well to the everyday homeowner that can afford the stuff that actually changes lifestyle. the first is the august smart watch. you can see here, it's a nice sleek device. it bolts onto an existing dead bolt. take your old one off, put this on the existing hole. it connects to your smart phone and allows you to lock and unlock it seamlessly. imagine, you have a delivery or guest that comes over. you don't have to key. hit click, boom, unlocks it. when they leave, lock it back. you know you're set. second thing, the nest protect smoke alarm. do you have any incidents where somebody is burning the biscuits, i don't know. maybe there is something worse happening. it's going to notify you immediately so you can take action. the final thing is the canary. this is a really cool camera monitoring system. i actually have one installed in my house now. you can see this is my set-up with my crew in my living room and kitchen. pretty cool.

?? >> it's october. so you're probably thinking about pumpkins or trick or treat candy. but did you know it's also national pasta so pick up a fork and celebrate like a reality tailian. here to tell us how it's done, the first generation italian american, giuliana rancic and her hubby, bill rancic. good morning. manga. >> hi. good morning. you got it down. >> that's right. eat, eat. hey, a lot of people may not know that you're first generation italian american.
9:22 am
i was actually born in naples, italy and moved to this country when i was about seven years old. the word manga has to be one of the first words i ever heard in my life. my mom, i can hear her voice right now. in fact, i heard it last night. last night bill and i came home. we're here in chicago. my parents are staying with us. and before we could even get through the door, my mom is like, come on, manga. like you got to sit down, the food is getting cold. so yeah. i grew up and i tell my this. i've been telling people for years, we had pasta on our table every night of my life, literally every night of my life. >> and i have something in common with you. i'm married to an italian. to i know manga very well. >> you do. you do. >> bill, what do you think some of the differences are between the way italians and americans eat? >> well, i've become an italian via marriage. we've been going to italy for almost the last ten, 11 years
9:23 am
different because in italy, it's a real experience when you have dinner. that's the manga way of life. and i read a great article the other day that said in italy, 80% of the italians actually set the table every night before dinner versus here in america. it's like 10%. so in italy, it's about spending time with the family. it's creating an experience. they light candles. they set the table. they really let dinner be a time where they can reconnect at the end of the day. that's something that we try to embrace and it's really the manga >> isn't it just a great day. >> it reminds me so much of when i was a kid because i grew up in a family where every night we sat down at the table and we talked about our day. we heard stories that our parents were sharing with each other. we learned a lot at that dinner table. >> yes. as did i. i think it's a really valuable experience. how are you two celebrating national pasta month together? >> we partnered with bertolli

the guesswork out of making an amazing italian meal quite quickly. so these are awesome. you keep these in the freezer. you can get them at the grocery store. keep them in the freezer. literally rip open the bag, pour all the ingredients in this bag into a skillet. you don't even have to boil water. ten to 11 minutes, you have the most amazing pasta. so what's beautiful about that is that gives us less time in the kitchen at the stove and more time with our family. so during those minutes, i set the table quite like this actually. just little details that make it feel like an italian table. a little fresh parmesan, a little grater. put a bottle of olive oil on the table, crushed red pepper. i like to take a nice bread roll, cut it up and put it in a nice bread basket. couple bottles of wine, candidatesles. while the pass is it is cooking for ten ways, so that when the

we're having a really family style meal. >> you're making me hungry. it looks beautiful. >> i wish you could smell it. >> delicious. >> fresh food, but less prep time. right? >> exactly. >> exactly. >> guys, how can we learn more about some of these dishes that you've shown us here today? >> well, there is a great web site. bertollimanga it's gia.com. how are the italian groceries in chicago? >> oh, my goodness. incredible. we have a really big italian community here. we have a little italy on the southwest side of chicago. so. >> fresh tomatoes. >> chicago is a reality tailian town. >> you guy, thank you so much. it's been a great interview. thank you so much.

post your pasta picture. for more information, visit the web site on your screen. >> thank you so much. peters and associates, the panda guys, have been on our show discussing budgeting as well as the importance of having an emergency fund. today we're here to talk about one of the most difficult topics in personal finance. it will be so much fun. getting out of debt. here to help us get out of debt is peter with peters and associates. how are you? >> by the way, it's very simple. pay it off. >> kind of. you just have to print us the money. >> that's right. >> what's the easiest way to get out of debt? the best way. >> you hit it on the head. it's paying it off. that's the best and easiest i suppose if you have the money to do so because the creditors will take the money. normally what you want to do if you're going to prioritize, smart off with the smaller bills first, get those paid off and
9:27 am
>> luckily i think it was the ftc that forced these credit card companies to actually put what paying the minimum balance will cost you and how long it will take to pay it off. >> right. these loan disclosures that you understand how much this loan is going to cost you if you paid minimums. sometimes they'll take you 25 years to 45 years to pay off a credit card if you pay the minimum. >> long time. >> yeah. all of a sudden hey, that $300 bill you had cost you $1,800. >> yeah. very easily. go figure. >> are there debt settlement scams out there? left and right. so first of all, the most important thing is to understand who you're doing business with. that's why i always encourage people to use local businesses. you can go in and talk to the owner. for instance, someone comes in to peters and association, they'll talk to myself or a partner. there are many debt settlement scams, so you want to be wary of any out of state companies. a lot of them come from florida or california or new york. they're not even supposed to take your money up front unless they meet with you in person.
9:28 am
money over the phone after talking to someone and that's a problem. >> these are the ones you see advertised on like the nationally late night commercials type stuff? >> true, true. the other issue is -- it's not necessarily illly, but it's how they set up the program. a lot of times they'll want to put you on a three-year plan. your creditors won't wait three years to get paid. but that debt settlement company gets its money up fronts. so they get paid, you get sued. you call them and say hey, i got sued. what do i do? they will say, go hire a at that point, it's a little bit too late. >> if they're broadcasting on a nationally syndicated program and they're advertising all around the country, you know it's not free. >> no. >> you know where they're getting the money. [ laughter ] >> exactly. >> we were talking about the emergency fund and talking about debt. what comes first? like let's say you have debt, you have no emergency fund. should you pay the minimums and make that emergency fund or
9:29 am
fund, wait, let me pay down the debt? >> pay the minimums and you should pay that -- build up that emergency fund. >> because you're still -- heaven forbid you have a big emergency, all of a sudden that debt will go unpaid. >> and then that emergency will require that you get a higher interest loan from a paid in loan company and that's the beginning of the end right there. >> 'cause i listened, there is a radio broadcaster that talks about debt that's a whole show. dave ramsey. >> right. >> that's what he talks b. have that financial fund before you start before you start killing your debt off. >> first and foremost. that credit card debt can wait. even if we're gonna do debt settlement, we'll talk about is it smart to pay your creditors on time. or if we're filing bankruptcy. the answer is no. >> once you get the first phone call from a creditor just like your heart -- you feel like a weight on your chest, it can be

offer free consultations for people that feel the stress. >> we do. >> you kind of help lift that weight away. >> we do. because we give you options and tell you exactly what that creditor can do. debt collectors are good at making you feel stressed out or scaring you or bullying you into paying you money. or just putting a guilt trip on. they're very good at that. >> i was a bill collector for a year. they train you. they're like make them feel as bad as possible. >> you were probably in the same situation; i'm like, who am i have a 560 credit score. >> you're the pot. we tell people, look, you can't get arrested. no one is going to jail. here is the time line if they're going to sue you. here is how they can garnish wages and how much they can garnish and here is how we can stop all that. most of the debt programs are done within a year to 18 months and you're paying for 20 to 40 cents on the dollar and saving a lot of money. >> you'll take the hit on your
9:31 am
>> not only that of the we'll show you how to get back to a 700 credit score within two years. really quick. >> wow. >> it's amazing. most people say, well, i'm at 650 or 700 or 800. we have to explain to them is credit is a tool to help you save money. if you need to sacrifice your credit to save money to get stable so you don't have to live check to check, that's what you do. that credit will rehab. it's not a scarlet letter that you always have to bear. we can make it better. >> no question. great having you. >> thank you so much. >> you want more information on the services offered by and associates? aka the panda guys. call them or visit the web site. they're both right there on your screen. you can also find them on facebook or twitter and see their handsome faces when you're driving north of 15. always on that billboard. all month long, planet hollywood will turn the color pink. all to benefit susan g. komen through the end of the month. all coins tossed into the fountain will go to the organization. and you want to find out more

such a wonderful show and it's kind of paralleled my life as we're going through. so even this season, we have sue trying to figure out what her college major is. i'm going through that with one of my sons. we have brick learning how to drive this season. i've gone through that with my kids. that one i finally had to just pay somebody to teach him 'cause i could not get in the car with him. i mean, my just tightening. i literally, like pressing on that invisible brake on the passenger side. yeah. so i mean, i totally relate to all the adventures that the hecht family has together, as i think most americans do. >> yeah. you know what i love about you, we know you're a super mom on tv for almost two decades. but you're a super mom in real life. mother of four sons. my co-host, shawn here, is
