unsanitary conditions. donna mead and dawn spoolman are each facing three counts of malicious torture along with other violations. they have both been placed under house arrest. the animals were seized after their cold creek desert rescue animal sanctuary was raided. that's about 60 miles northwest of las vegas. nearly 1-hundred of the animals had to be euthanized -- the others were sent to a shelter thier next court date is set for december. the defense attorney for the man charged with fatally shooting a woman on i-15... is now saying mental illness may have been a factor. kenneth mcdonald's lawyer says he's still reviewing the police reports. metro is calling the shooting random -- and they don't believe he knew the victim tracey donahue. her husband who was in the car with her... was also shot. he's still recovering. mcdonald is due back in court on monday. right now -- a woman is in

police say a man and woman were on the moped when the driver drove over fluid in the road and lost control. both were taken to sunrise trauma. no word on the man's condition. a moped rider is killed this morning..in a crash that shut down flamingo at valley view for hours. 13 action news anchor lesley marin was there...as the mangle moped layed in the street. 122050 122058 police tell us this moped was coming down flamingo here crossing valley view when it cr that was making a left turn in this intersection now you can see it mangled on the ground there...debris just scattered across the roadway. police tell us the 48 year old man who was riding the moped was taken to the hospital where he later died... metro says the next three months are some of the deadliest as holiday approach. 120915 120925 we start kind of cringing because we know that our fatalities regularly for the last six years have gone up

home surveillance video appears to show the couple following a fed ex truck into the driveway...calmly walking up and driving away with the package. a thief breaks into a sporting goods store in canada and steals some hockey sticks-- now if this doesn't already sound like a movie plot... just watch how he pulls it off look on the right--y rope drop down from the ceiling. then... the man climbs down. the store manager says he drilled a whole in the roof to get in. he spends about an hour inside stealing bundles of expensive hockey sticks. (greg goyer/manager, monkey sports) "you're amazed, but you're also sickened to watch what he's doing. to go undetected that way and not really have a care." he puts them in a pile by the back door... where an accomplice loads them into a white van.

mixed together at a sewage plant this mornng. the leak caused a reaction that formed a dark fog over the city. around 11-thousand were forced to shelter in place -- roads were closed and schools were evacuated. the fog has now lifted and the situation is improvig two firefighters were hurt battling this fire in chicago. over 2-hundred firefighters were called out after a wooden pallet shop caught fire. the flames spreading to several nearby businesses. it took several hours...but crews were eventually able to put out the fire. no word on how it started. both injured firefighters are expected to be okay. some people are still cleaning up after a massive explosion rocked portland earlier this week. now one firefighter is being

"next thing i knew there was an explosion - saw the explosion from the basement all the way to the third floor." this afternoon portland fire lieutenant peter saint john says he still can't believe he even survived all of this. he responded after initial reports of a gas leak...and saw gas waves coming from the building. they knew it was serious so his team pulled the fire alarms to get everyone out. firefighters were able to evacuate the building before the explosion saint john's legs were broken during the blast. saint john says he's not sure he's ready to accept his new "hero" title. i've seen what can happen as the result of hate. my son matt was murdered in laramie, wyoming, in 1998. he was befriended by two men in a bar who pretended to be gay. they offered him a ride home, and when he was in their car, they robbed him and beat him. they drove matt out to the prairie and tied him to a split-rail fence, then beat him some more and left him for dead. in the aftermath of matt's death, my family saw the best of america in the love and support we were shown. so when i see the hate that donald trump has brought to his campaign for president, it terrifies me. i'd like to punch him in the face, i'll tell ya. ahh, i don't know what i said, uhh, i don't remember. he's a mexican. i could stand in the middle of fifth avenue and shoot somebody, and i wouldn't... words have an influence. violence causes pain. hate can rip us apart.
