9:00 am
good thursday morning, everybody. we're taking a live look outside right now at the mgm. every saturday and tuesday starting this weekend you can head down there for the open house. how cool is that? >> awesome. >> you'll join a rare demonstration inside the theater. you like the -- shawn?
9:01 am
>> what a game! >> here is the thing. i'm a red sox fan. the cubs aren't my team per se. >> not my team either. >> we have a spiritual connection. when we won we had 86 years of drought, and to see the cubs go 108 years, the indians went 68 years, feel bad for them, too. but 108 years. >> it's a beautiful thing. >> last night was by far the greatest baseball game i have >> so many people felt that way, shawn. it was an amazing night for baseball, even if you weren't watching the last few years. last night, was a phenomenal game. david ross. >> he killed it. >> i mean, look at that. >> the bonanza boy himself, kris bryant, it's just -- i could not believe this is real life. here is the deal.
9:02 am
this is probably the only great news that will come out of this year. fantastic. that and my son, of course. >> that is true. >> it was so uplifting and a reminder of just really the spirit of what we have going in this country. i'm getting emotional. >> we were watching facebook, budweiser has an amazing video. she -- you have that actually, just in kleenex. budweiser is an amazing video, doing play by play, former announcer for the cubs who passed away many years ago, called the -- calling the final out for the world -- it is -- as a non-cubs fan, that close, you go me that close. >> and they edited the video overnight. go to google and look up budweiser cubs. it was amazing.
9:03 am
was so excited about the game and so emotional, because it reminded me of my late father and i wanted to be watching -- he grew up in chicago, in hyde park. he was a huge baseball fan. and i just think of him the whole night. >> you got it. >> i know. >> how cool is this? >> so cool. >> great. >> if you're a cubs fan, you want to let it out -- let it out. it's we want to hear from you. facebook and twitter pages, you can find links on vegasmorningblend.com. it's okay. crying is allowed in baseball if you win. i think that's the way that saying goes. i'm not sure. my goodness, what a game. >> a good night. >> it's crazy. get out your stick, the 15th annual toys for tots golf classic is this saturday. the event is held by marines las vegas. the giving doesn't stop there. they teamed up with best
9:04 am
others toy drive. >> here to spread joy through the sole i day season david mizrahi, president of best mattress and tom mcgrath chairman of marine's las vegas toys for tots. now my chair feels a lot higher than your chair. i think we should lower it. now we're on the same level. >> let's talk about this. this lovely marriage we have going here. >> well, we started with the toys for tots several years ago by donating a premium bed to the golf tournament that they would have a silent action for, which we have done this year. we decided to take it a step further. every one of our 22 locations will be a drop off center for toys for people to bring for these very needy kids that so wonderfully help. the toy has to be brand-new, wrapped, no plush toys because of allergies. and what we're going to be
9:05 am
in to donate a toy a 20% officer 25 cat towards any accessory. >> fantastic. >> there is no purchase necessary, just come in. we'll stuff the boxes up to help the kids. >> certainly. and the toy drive started yesterday so people can go to any of the 22 locations and drop off that toy. >> right. >> tom -- >> good morn. >> good morning. so marines las vegas, tell us about the group and how long you have been part of that. >> the chairman of las vegas we have been going for 15 years now. and we sell off this golf tournament every year. we sold out six weeks ago. >> oh, wow. why are we here? >> it's the largest fundraiser for toys for tots in las vegas. and we're proud of our work and what we do. >> no question. >> last year we brought in over 70,000 toys. >> wow.
9:06 am
40,000 children. >> wow. >> isn't that inyesterdayible. >> we make a difference. >> and that's 40,000 children that year. >> correct. >> and the year prior dash -- >> that was last year. >> and tom you were mentioning the 40,000 kids. >> right. >> that you reach. those are in the las vegas valley. >> that's correct. when people donate to toys for tots, when the golf tournament all the proceeds stay in las vegas to benefit las vegas so -- >> it's awesome. >> it is. >> for best mattress to step up, it's a local company. >> absolutely. we really like to support local charities. i can't think of a better thing to help kids have a really nice christmas. we need to come in and let's fill the boxes up with toys. >> i was looking over for andrew. can we get a close up? tj, i'm going to -- people call you tj. yeah, tj is -- i learned about
9:07 am
we spoke on phone. he served in the marines for eight years, which is honorable. thank you for serving in the marines. he also is a -- he's fond of socks. >> oh. >> he wore some socks. i think we can get a close up. >> those are very fashionable. we're having a sock off right now. i'm wearing blue and red for the cubs today. you were dressed like sock it to me. >> that's right. >> very cool. we need more socks in our life. there is a sale going on. >> yes, there is. our veterans day sale 10% off just any purchase from $249 up. we're offering a special financing on temperpedic, 72 months, no down, no interest for 72 months. and then you know, i really want to stress it's not about our sale, it's about the toys and the kids and toys for tots, and
9:08 am
let's bring in toys. you don't have to buy anything. you'll get the coupon for a future purchase. that's really what we want to do, fill the boxes up. come mid december we can have a truck load of toys that we can deliver to the marines. >> coin check. >> oh, yeah. >> j.j. doesn't have a coin. >> j.j. -- >> what are these? >> these are challenge coins. and on the back of the coin, it's functional, as you can see. on the back -- >> on the back of the coin, we have the two marine units that assist us, weapons platoon and motor t. >> that's awesome. >> so here you are. >> oh, cool. thank you so much. >> there we go. we're all coined up. great having you, gentlemen. thank you. >> thank you. >> marines of las vegas toys for tots toy drive, pepping donations now. donate unwrapped toys to any 22

shopping for a car than they do looking for a financial adviser. that's according to a 2014 cnbc article. and you probably, shawn, asked a thousand different questions when you bought your boat. >> yes. >> when it comes to your financial future, shouldn't you apply the same diligence? >> one would assume so. >> yes. >> we're going to make you apply that this morning.
9:12 am
>> eric is an adopted brother. they're here toad a kate us on the matter of retirement and finance. good morning to you. >> good morning. >> let's talk about this. when you're -- whether choosing a financial adviser for the first time or you already have one, there are questions you should be asking this person. >> yeah, lots of questions. many people think all advisers are built the same and that's not true. there is analogy that i like to use, if someone is going to -- wants to have a meal, if they go to a people in the butcher shop what should i have for dinner, they're going to say the steak looks great you should buy the steak. >> and chances are that's the one they're trying to get rid of. >> may be. so next day they go into the same butcher shop and say what should i have for dinner? try this steak. they're always going to sell the person asking. if that person goes to a different store or maybe someone that is a dietitian and asks what should i have for dinner the person is going to take a lot more into consideration.
9:13 am
i -- what is your weight? what's your health look like? and they're going to give a recommendation of what to eat based upon what's best for you. >> such as a spinach salad. >> hey, that might be exactly what they recommend. >> so hungry right now. >> the whole idea is if you go to a butcher, someone that has a suitability standard and they are held to different standards than someone that goes to i a dietitian. so that's what you have to look for, is someone looking out for my best needs or someone trying to sell something that you know they might think i want but may not be what is best for my health or needs and so forth. >> that's what fiduciary standard is. >> the dietitian version of that scenario, yes. that's the standard, and so somebody people might know if it
9:14 am
suitability. if you ask they need to disclose that to you. they need to tell you what they are if you ask. and if they're shady about asking put it on paper and sign their name to it. >> if they refuse, that's how you know. >> that's right. >> what qualifies an adviser to say they followed the fiduciary standard. >> it's a different set of exams. for example, eric and myself are both fiduciary standard advisers. we are legally obligated to what's wright, more right for the client than ourselves. but not all adds are considered to have that standard. >> the first question you should be asking is whether or not they follow fiduciary standard. the second one you say people should be asking how do you get paid. i'm making money off you. >> yeah, it's interesting. there is kind of two trains of thoughts for that. you got the fee based, and the commission based. fees you're paying either quarterly or monthly whether out
9:15 am
pocket, but it's a reoccur thing you're expecting each year. a commission based is whether it's on mutual fund where you have a front load or back load, you're paying the commission or a fee upfront. and back end would be you're paying on the back end when you sell that mutual fund. and so there are two different trains of thought. a lot of people say what is the best way to go? and the best way is to just understand and transparency. it doesn't matter, there i right or wrong answer on which way is the best way to go, but what's important is that you know everything that you're going to be paying, whether it's a fee or commission on the front end. and there is -- if you know that you're going to be paying just a fee based thing, you wouldn't want to see some big large chunk of money all of a sudden come out of your account on a commission you weren't expecting. and you can have a combination of the two, but it's important that the advisers transparent with you. it's our job to say this is the fee that you're going to pay and
9:16 am
more than that. if there are more to make sure you're transparent in those charges. >> it's interesting when you look at a statement from a 401(k) plan, you might see all the transactions that take place but the fees might not be disclosed. and so you have to peel back layers of the onion to find out what are the actual fees in these transactions that are taking place. >> and those fees can really -- the long run they can hurt you as far as your retirement is concerned. you want to make sure you know where the fees are coming from and how much they are. >> absolutely. and there is many things out there where people are paying two to 4% in fees a year, and they believe they're only paying half a percent in fees, and when we reveal that to them that they're paying much more than they expected, then it's quite jaw dropping. >> and it can cost you hundreds of thousands. >> over a lifetime, absolutely. >> so thank you. now you both have specialties, i would imagine, in your line of work. what would you consider your

so we -- the retirement brothers, we focus on retirement, helping those who are transitions from working years to retirement. anyone 50 and older is who we specialize in. and we want to help them retire and stay retired so they never have to try to get another job if they don't want to. if they want to obviously they can. but we want to set up conservative strategies, to set up lifetime income so they don't have to worry and vest. and i think a lot ofeo in more risky scenarios than they would like to be in retirement, and so when the market takes a crash, if 2008 happens again we don't want those people in retirement to be struggling at that point. >> we run out of time. people can e-mail you questions should they have any. it's great having you. love the socks, by the way. for your retirement needs they have a special offer, first 15 people to call will receive a

welcome back. does your home need major repair, do you need to sell quirkily for cash? our next guest lathe lavada from first prime realty group is here to show you how he can buy your home for cash. here with more is lathe. great having you back. let's talk about this. what type of homes are you buying from sellers? how does this thing work? >> i usually buy unwanted homes. the sellers quickly. generally the homes need massive repairs, and the seller is facing some sort of hardship. a good example is a divorce, relocation, a job loss. they have inherited a home due to a family member passing on or something like that. >> and it's not something they can sustain, they just want to cut their losses. >> that's correct. >> why would a seller choose this route as opposed to maybe playing the realtor game? >> again, the homes that i buy generally need thousands of dollars of repairs and the
9:22 am
>> it's the type of stuff that might not pass inspection. >> right. so an investor like myself is the only one who can come in, afford to buy those homes, fix them up, put them back on the market for sale. getting a loan for these types of properties is challenging if not impossible. and most home buyers don't -- they don't want to buy these homes and they can't. so that's where a real estate investor like myself is beneficial to come in and buy the home for cash. >> you actually do go in there and fix it up? >> yes. >> you have the money, you don't have to worry about the lender saying you have to get this and this fixed in order for the money to be there. you're paying in cash to take care of it on your own. >> that's right. >> does the seller have to pay real estate commission? >> there is no real estate commissions on the homes that i buy. and i pay all the seller closing costs, as well. >> it's a two party purchase at that point? >> that's right. >> very simple. how fast can you purchase a property? a lot of people need it like
9:23 am
>> no kidding. might not always be three days, but what's the average? >> well, really depends on every situation. every seller, every home is unique, but if the seller does need to close quickly, i do have the ability to do so. so it's based on the seller's situation and their time frame, not mine. so we make sure that we're answering the needs of the sellers. >> of course. if a homeowner is watching and wondering whether or not they should sell, perhaps sell the home for cash, what's the p how do they get the ball rolling? >> the best way is to call my office for no obligation cash offer. i have a three step process. the first step is just give me a call at my office, and we'll do an evaluation, make you a cash offer. the second step is to go ahead and agree upon a purchase price, sign a purchase agreement, and the third step is then go ahead and close the sale at a third party title and escrow company so you can get your cash profits. that's important because a lot of homeowners might be afraid
9:24 am
the cash. so everything is done through a title and escrow company. and they're insured to get cash profits that way. >> the typical purchase without signing the mortgage stuff, at least for you. >> that's right. >> i can assume that the homeowners that are using the program are pretty thankful this exists because if you need it yesterday, trying to sell it the old-fashioned method and having to get things repaired that can take a long time. >> it can. you know, one situation we had was a gentleman who had and he needed to move very quickly back to chicago, in order to go through his treatment. and the home is in disrepair. he had a lot of belongings in the property. and you know, i told him we can make this very easy for you. we'll buy your home. we don't care about the condition. you don't have to make any fix ups. no repairs. and we'll give you the cash. we actually did close that one in three days. >> wow. >> yeah. and he was able to move on, get his treatment. he left all the belongings that he didn't want. i told him leave all the
9:25 am
and then that way, i will go ahead and take care of them for you. and he was just able to take what he wanted, leave the rest, and we closed and he's very happy. we actually just closed on that property yesterday. >> wow. no kidding. >> we closed on the sale. we fixed it up, put it back. it's already closed. >> oh, wow. you're fast. didn't having you, my friend. if you want to sell your home for cash, lathe lavada is your guy. 702-476-2000. you can call for a guaranteed quick and easy no obligation, 2. his website is listed right there. j.j., over to you. thanks, shawn. and now it's time for your senior care moment sponsored by the spotlight senior services guide. estate planning is more than just drafting a will. proper estate planning is a team approach that addresses taxes,

we talk about star ratings in medicare. can you run that by me? >> absolutely. star ratings is a great way to compare plans. medicare uses a star rating from one to five stars, five being the best to measure how well plans are performing under certain cry tire i can't. there are five criteria that they measure. i think we have those on the screen to show you. what's important to realize is that these plans these days there is a lot of pressure to keep people healthy, so one of through screening, even things like member complaints to the plan are part of the overall score. now, the overall medicare star rating score helps you to understand, you know, how well they're performing and gives you an apples to apples comparison. >> okay. >> using the same system as star search. i like that. so the star system can help people boil it down to a nice
9:39 am

to meet him and make sure everything worked out. but it was beautiful. and it was a family that we couldn't deny the an option to. >> i have to say thank you, lance burton retweeted him right away. that helped get that dog adopted. >> social media is huge. it's huge for the shelter. we get so many adoptions from all over the place, from utah, from arizona, people come in because they see these pictures. and not only that they them with everybody. so really gets the word out. >> it's the sharing. tell us all about vaughn. hopefully we can use the power of media and social media and television to get this guy adopted. >> he loves his little bed. >> he does? >> he might have to stay here until after his nap, but he ran out of time at another shelter. we took him in with open arms. he's reporterredly crate trained. when you get him home you need
9:47 am
teach him where the doors are, teach him all of that. he does have a collapsed trachea, which is hereditary in dogs. it's not fatal, not life-threatening just means you have to -- he can't wear a leash around his neck. he has to wear a harness, and his environment at home you need to make sure there is humidifier. if you use electric heat just make sure you have a humidifier otherwise he's a perfect little boy. >> he's so handsome. how old is he? >> he's about 3-years-old and he >> hi. are you handsome? >> he's looking at himself in the camera. he can't figure out where the other dog is at. >> he's a beautiful guy. i'm good at judging a dog's weight i would say he's about 14. >> that would be my guess, as well. yes. if you have a dog, bring it down, do a meet and greet and make sure everybody gets along. he is the perfect little dog.
9:48 am
whoever might be interested in vaughn, they would take vaughn home and also bring home a dog bed from best mattress. >> that he's laying on writ influence that he loves. the cover is washable, which is very important. >> these are the best. these are truly amazing. >> yes. >> okay. there are -- i'm so happy about perry. i'm really hoping that vaughn is going to find a great home. you have another great event coming up on november 11th. >> yes. >> a charity poker tournament. >> a week from tomorrow, it's going to be so much celebrities -- it's at planet hollywood, red carpet, starts at 6:00. if you go online right now, our silent auction is up there, and you can start bidding on the items. one of the items we have is a party at the george straight concert in february. for 16 people. >> 16 people? >> 16 people. amazing. we got tickets to luke bryant,

feature every monday. shawn. over to you. >> thank you so much. no matter what the outcome was going to be you knew this year's word series was going to be historic and was it ever. norm clarke is back with that and more. and he's joined by jack sheehan. gentlemen, great having you. i want to watch this again. i just want to watch the whole game. unbelievable last night. first time since 1908. norm. >> what a game. what a game. >> your timing couldn't be better for this conversations with norm. >> well, we're just still buzzing, because we're changing plans as we go. >> sure. >> we just think this is a great opportunity if you're a baseball fan or especially if you're a cubs fan to come out on sunday and see the show. normally the show is done
9:51 am
and we give the rich background of everybody. but we think this could be such a rare celebration of -- for cubs fans that would want to come out and hear about one of their greatest pitchers, somebody that actually won his first cy young there, four in a row. >> that's right. >> greg maddox. '86 to 92 day, is it? >> is this a test? >> i was -- that sounds right. he spent tern years as a cub, if i remember. >> i think a little less than that but he was in the minor league organization. he signed when he was 18 out of valley high, just skinny little guy. and worked his way into the hall of fame. >> what do you think the cubs meant to greg? >> well, i know they meant the world to him. and they still do. even after his playing career ended, he served as the consultant with the organization for a while.
9:52 am
they had him throw out the first pitch, and -- in game three, and he has a divided loyalty between the cubs and the braves. the cubs gave him the opportunity to play pro ball. he won a cy young with them. he went on to greater things with the brave. at the hall of fame ceremonies he wouldn't choose between the two. he appeared kind of with a split loyalty between those two cities. >> did he have both jerseys and have them -- they should make split jerseys. >> yeah. >> i said -- >> why you waking me up? i've been up all night. >> yeah. he was wide awake when i texted him but in the middle of a meeting at unlv. i said give me your response to last night and he gave me a one word answer, incredible. >> it's unbelievable. and to have 108 years and 68 years for the cleveland indians, as well, hinge on a 10th inning game with a rain

9:54 am
and so we're really proud of that. but i think that probably not as proud as the cubs fans are going to be that -- i expect to see a lot of cubs jerseys, and so we're really happy. >> you're an author. could you have written something mora dick awe plusly intense last night? >> it would be fiction. as opposed to nonfiction. literally one of the greatest baseball games i've ever seen. >> unbelievable. >> to have it as the seventh game in a world s with the two hungriest franchises in baseball, and all the emotion involved in that and to go extra innings with a rain delay, it was nuts. >> we have 20 seconds left. let's talk about -- this is a guy, general manager of the boston red sox, like a 25-year-old, helps end the 86 year curse in boston. and then he heads to the cubs to end their curse. >> he's working on water. i mean, can you imagine the fan base that he's developed? he seems like a great smart
