heading the only communist government in the western hemisphere. during that time, castro survived a tough u-s trade embargo... designed to topple him....as well as numerous assassination attempts. as a-b-c's karen travers reports, opinions are still split on whether his legacy is good or bad. fidel castro was born on august 13th, 1926 in oreinte province, cuba. he was educated at private catholic schools run by jesuits and later went on to study law at t he formally declared cuba a socialist state two years after his rebels won the revolution, calling himself a "marxist-leninist". bay of pigs. castro was able to fend off the invasion but in 1962 american spy planes discovered he had allowed the soviets to put nuclear missles in cuba. he was a major leader in the cuban missle crisis that brought the u-s and soviet union to the brink of nuclear war. (sot bw intv 2002) "yes we were very close to nuclear war. but the soviet sytle economy eventually produced dissent. in 1980, more than 125 thousand cubans, some expelled, many allowed to leave, braved rough seas and dehydration to reach america in the mariel boatlift. in the early 1990's the fall of the u-s- s-r cost cuba billions retaliated by bringing in tourism and business. but in 1999 there would be more

retailers that you can't just terrorize the people and think that we're going to continue to shop." the protest also brough out a few members of a group known as the new black panthers. they group was seen yelling at police and mall security. things never turned violent. "he loved me really much ...he was loved by a lot of people." only on 13-action news the girlfriend of a man gunned down sharing her heartbreak. victim identified by loved ones as nelson navarijo. right now detectives searching the valley for at least one shooter. we're told the victim was shot in the chest this afternoon inside an apartment near eastern and fremont. he made his way outside -- before collapsing. friends say the victim had recently gotten in --with the wrong crowd ... police believe -this may be gang related.

in both.... north las vegas and henderson..... walmart stores..... were the number one locations... for police calls..... last year. contact 13.... chief investigator.... darcy spears reveals..... where police are going more than almost anywhere else. and... "you pay... for it". :35 laura when i saw the numbers i was absolutely shocked. shopper laura salaz spends money at walmart, but she doesn't expect to see so many of her tax dollars spent there. 2:44 laura walmart is using my public resources as their it's not only walmarts in southern nevada....all across the country, [nats] police are responding to scenes like these: two women fighting in the shampoo aisle. thefts in the parking lot, and violent outbreaks at customer service. [nats ktnv file] north las vegas police responded to the walmart on lake mead 441 times in 2015. that's a first place tie with cheyenne condo apartments. and there was another walmart in north town's number 2 spot with 395 calls.

it's very insensitive and disturbing. i can't imagine that anyone would think its ok to do something like that." a colorado mother is upset this morning, after her and her daughter woke up to racist messages written on their home. the messages read "k-k-k" along with other racial slurs. ari, the owner of the house says, because of the recent election, racist remarks like the ones' on her home are more common. law enforcement is working to stop future incidents such as these. pipeline protesters were arrested friday, and are now facing criminal trespass charges. officers responded just before 1 p.m. to a report of about 100 protesters at kirkwood mall in bismarck, north dakota. police say protesters were asked to leave numerous times, because the mall is private property. those who refused to cooperate were taken into custody. officers remained at the mall to maintain safety.

in the u-s plunge to a 35-year low! so, what is going on? well it's hard to pin point...but factors could include the aging of the u-s population, changing gender roles or the simple fact that not many people are getting married-- some americans are foregoing marriage to stay single and live alone, or to co-habitate with their partners without tying the knot.
