nathan gilbert, city of reno associate planner: "really what we're trying to do is to prioritize the connection between the university, it's economic and intellectual leverage and really bring that to the urban core." this project near center street is just one of the developments being considered. the university says it would include new use for the land there, benefiting the needs of students like rapid transit by r-t-c. the historical resources commission for the city of reno says they're in favor of the plan, but they just want to make sure the historical buildings are being preserved and not demolished. jen huntley, city of reno historical resources commission: "that block is the only intact block of turn of the century homes that is in reno and that's the block featured in the university plan as a pedestrian way." the university and the city says they are working to see how they can integrate those homes into plans for the area. and many of the residents who came to the meeting were also in favor of the development, but they had a
