always thought that i would have my instructors to go home to. and there's no home now. so we're all kind of lost." stephanie davidson is one of 43-hundred students nationwide trying to figure out her options. the nevada state board of cosmetology is assessing students individually to see whether they can transfer or apply for their licenses. gary landry, executive director nevada state board of cosmetology: "any student who has accumulated 1600 hours of credit would be eligible to take the exam. i estimate 10-15 percent of the total population has achieved that." but the state board adds that certain schools only accept a minimum amount of hours and some students are too close to the end, so many of their credits are not being accepted. gary landry, executive director nevada state board of cosmetology: "those are particularly going to be particularly hard to place." the department of education investigation into marinello alledged the school knowingly requested federal aid for students based on fabricated high school diplomas. while also charging students for excessive overtime and supplies. the school's spokesperson released this statement to channel 2 news. saying quote "we have compelling

have satisfied the department's concerns and we asked repeatedly for two months to be able to respond.... "...but the department waited until we were past the point of no return financially to allow us any opportunity to respond to its unfounded allegations." end quote. nail technician lorenia obregon said she believes the allegations and is glad the school closed. and she's willing to do what it takes to continue her dream of being an aesthetician. lorenia obregon-amavizca, student: "the instructor is not going to be the same, and the schooling is not going to be the same so it's going to be a hard transition but i have to do what i have to do in order to licensed and pursue my dreams." davison's graduation cap will have to be stored away until she finds another school, but she's staying optimistic about her future career too. stephanie davidson, student: "it kind of gives me a little bit of a setback but i'm determined. i will finish my hours one way or another. and get my license." school officials say they are working with other schools to arrange partnerships to help students continue their education.

to allow students to receive their transcripts and other paperwork. covering school watch, amanda ketchledge, channel 2 news. also in school watch.. the washoe county school district's overcrowding and repairs committee has been meeting for months... working to write a ballot question to help washoe county's overcrowding problem. there are a few different options on the table for tax increases. the decision is between sales and property tax increases... or a combination of the two. the goal... is to raise nearly 800 million dollars over the next ten years... which they say is not even the full amount the district needs. shaun: "it's all going to go to the backlog of maintenance and new school needs that we have in our area. without these improvements, we are facing a very tough slate, and that slate will be carried by all of the children in our community." tonight the committee will discuss which tax increases would place the smallest burden on citizens... and which are most likely to pass. they say right now-- they are looking at sales taxes as most

percent of those are paid by visitors. but they're also considering increasing property taxes by a few cents. the meeting started tonight at 6... and it is open to the public, but we will have a full wrap-up tonight at 11. a fairly strong ridge of high pressure will keep us dry for the next several days, and temperatures that have been lagging behind seasonal averages will climb above the norm once we get into the weekend. after patchy morning fog clears out, a few clouds will pass over us friday afternoon ahead of a weakening frontal band, but those should move out by the weekend leaving saturday and sunday mostly sunny. highs friday will be in the mid-40s and will climb into the 50s

turning to the crime beat... today reno police sentenced a man to 10 years in prison for hitting a police officer with his car back in august. in december, russell roberts pleaded guilty to felony charges

officer and battery with a deadly weapon on a police officer. authorities say roberts drove his car toward an officer who was responding to an unrelated service call on arlington avenue in august. he will be eligible for parole 4 years after he starts serving his sentence, which will begin after he finishes a 4-year sentence for a drug charge. the district attorney's office has released a report that found an officer involved shooting justified. according to the report... sparks police detectives shot and killed james bowman back in september of 20-14 near sutro and ninth streets. when they confronted him, the d-a's office says bowman refused the command to surrender and eventually walked toward detectives while removing a loaded handgun from his waistband. he passed away at the hospital and an autopsy revealed he had amphetamine and methamphetamine in his blood. reno police are looking for a suspect in an robbery this week. police say this man entered a

paul -- the big game is a big boost for these businesses, isn't it? it is kristen -- we all know more money is bet on the super bowl than any other event. but casinos are finding other ways to get people into the building. that's why most of them have special super bowl parties planned. bull bucking a mechanical bull really doesn't have anything to do with the super bowl -- unless you're watching the game at gilley's in the nugget. that's where you'll find plenty of food and prizes. scott "we'll have some corona swag to give away. i've got a guitar, signed by charlie daniels, we're giving away. so, door and includes all you can eat and drink -- with plenty of tvs -- including a couple 8-foot screens. more than 300 people are expected here -- with more than a thousand more throughout the casino. scott "it's always fun to see the group go back and forth. i think everybody really has a lot of comradery, really has a good time getting together. especially in the gilley's atmosphere." the peppermill is expecting a

their big game blitz, in the tuscany ballroom -- and many more in the sports book. terry "people will be here at 5:00 in the morning, staking our their chairs and stuff. it's really kind of crazy. fun crazy." cox says when the broncos square off against the panthers -- peppermill will be filled with wall-to-wall fans -- and non-fans. terry "it's the novice factor. everybody's interested in this game." of course -- the super bowl party is huge for downtown reno. the three eldorado properties expect about 5-thousand fans to fill their bars and ballrooms. and several retired nfl players will be on-hand. glenn "we have a great time throughout the weekend and they sign autographs, they take pictures, they do it all. they're great guys." carano says they make a weekend out of the super bowl -- starting friday night with the piano guys, and mike tyson on saturday. and if you attend one of the super bowl parties -- the entry fee is all you need. glenn "you get all the food you want, drink, have a lot of fun, and if you have to stay over, don't want to drive home, get a

and that's what many people intend to do. not just locals but a lot of visitors that come to reno because it's one of the few places where you can legally bet on the game. that means hotels are filling up -- helping the local economy. covering super bowl 50 live in the studio, paul nelson, channel two news. of course, the game is only part of the show. commercials are the other, and this year, companies will fork over almost five-million dollars for a 30-second spot. teri okita has more from super bowl city in san francisco. it's become sport between advertisers to create the most buzzed-about super bowl ads. commercials are now splashed across social media weeks before the big game . re-posted and re- tweeted to get more bang for the buck. and it takes a "lot" of bucks. a 30- second commercial now fetches four- point-eight million dollars. at super bowl i, that same half-a-minute cost less than 38-thousand dollars.
