simulate a mix of firefighting and domestic operations from the air. paul nelson shows us how it works. flight simulator this might look like a video game -- but it's actually a type of training. these guardsmen are using virtual reality for fire fighting missions. wagner "it's really hard to go out and train with the buckets and we can't just go light a tree on fire and go put it out. so, that's one of the big things is we can go in the simulator and do that." these rooms are set up to look and feel like the cockpit of a blackhawk or chinook helicopter -- and the setup includes 240 computers. pilots can choose between video screens or special goggles that allow a 360-degree view. wagner "i've played xbox and those other games but this is way better because it's virtual reality." taylor "take yourself back to

you just got your driver's license and you finally got on the freeway yourself and you opened that car up to 80-90 miles per hour and then times that by a thousand." some pilots are flying into a wildfire to medivac people out. others can practice bucket drops. but taylor says the simulator is better for communication than flying. taylor "the real bread and butter is that it allows you to deal with all the radios and all the equipment on the aircraft without actually having to take time to spend money to bring same training." paul "this technology can be used for a lot of different reasons. not just practicing firefighting missions, but also combat operations." bang bang bang" bang bang bang and it allows you to go around the world without leaving home. wagner "we were flying missions, yesterday, from around afghanistan." wagner "where we're getting engaged with enemy systems that we've never seen before and we can't do that with a real is here -- they've logged about 500 at flight hours -- saving a lot of money.

to become a meteorologist? well kristen, since i was a kid, i always knew i wanted to do something with science or math. eventually i realized meteorology was the right fit for me. it was neat talking to other their stories. one person i talked to is not only a coworker, but also a mentor of mine here at channel two. the best kind of jobs are the ones you enjoy doing. ke alger: "i say if it's your passion, then do it." for some meteorologists their interest in weather started at a young age. alex hoon now works for the national weather service in reno, but he grew up in tornado alley. alex hoon: "i went to boyscout camp when i was about ten years old, and i saw a tornado." alex hoon: "ever since then i've been fascinated with the weather." my story is somewhat similar to mike's - i always had an interest in science, but it was a high school science project that sparked my interest in meteorology. mike alger: "when i was in college i gravitated towards a chemistry and geology

over the backgrounds, the weather was something that i could drive around, look at the clouds and say hey i know what's going on up there." meteorologists - that experiencing weather is what got them interested in it. marvin boyd came to reno from north carolina. he loves all types of weather. marvin boyd: "so from a scale from of one to ten how would you rate yourself as far as being a weather nerd? probably an eight." marvin boyd: "there's plenty of severe weather here. especially in the summertime." marvin boyd: "just fun to watch." alex hoon has grown to love western weather as well. alex hoon: "i used to really love severe weather, but in recent years i've actually learned to love fire weather alot." there's another side to meteorologists too. we don't like to be wrong. angela schilling: "are you competitive? do you like to get it right? mike alger: i'm learning a little bit, if anything this job will teach you humility." western nevada is a unique place to forecast for. shane snyder: "i would say the mountains make it very difficult at times."

"it was pretty constant and i had trouble catching my breath." as part of her recovery, her cardiologist referred her for cardiac rehabilitation - which involves exercise training and counseling to get heart patients back on their feet. "women have not been referred as much as men to go to cardiac rehab. its disappointing the problem is also women who are prescribed cardiac rehab are less likely to go than men who go to cardiac rehab." dr. mary ann mclaughlin of mount sinai hospital says cardiac rehab not only helps patients recover it can also help patients make healthy lifestyle changes and avoid ending up in the hospital . women-only programs can also have even bigger benefits. new research shows women who do their rehab with other women can have less depression and anxiety. "there is a very strong benefit psychologically of people to bond during this rehab phase and learn that they are not alone." jessica has some family history of heart disease but says doctors are not sure why she had a heart attack so young. after her heart

"to inspire women to take care of themselves so that they can take care of the ones they love. one in three women will die of heart disease and yet 80-percent of it is preventable." since the "go red for women"
