beginning of next year. covering money watch live in sparks, ryan canaday channel two news. it's been two years and one month since the ascuaga family sold the nugget to global gaming and hospitality. and in the next few months -- the property will change hands again. the current owners say they had no intention of selling the nugget -- but marnell gaming made an offer that made sense to them. the group owns two resorts in laughlin -- where it has invested about 70-million dollars in the last decade. the company's chairman says he'll do the same here -- with plans to renovate 800 hotel rooms in the west tower -- as well as the convention area, casino and showroom. marnell "we don't anticipate a lot of quick moves. this is long term. anybody, i think, that knows us, we don't sell much. we're usually buying things or building things." about 13-hundred people work at the nugget, and marnell says the change of ownership won't affect

thanks mike. the reno fire department says pepper spray triggered the evacuation of a starbucks in south reno. hazmat teams responded to the store on damonte ranch after four people complained of having trouble breathing. firefighters are still investigating where the pepper spray originated from. the store will reopen later this evening. in crime beat... reno police arrested a suspect in connection with a robbery in stead earlier this week. after a brief standoff... police arrested 39-year-old wesley ford from a home in stead last night around midnight. he's charged with robbery with a deadly weapon, grand larceny and possession of stolen property. police say he entered the maverick gas station on stead

and showed a handgun before taking money from the clerk. officials now say he was the one involved in an incident tuesday... as police approached his home in stead, ford allegedly stole a vehicle and fled police, resulting in 3 schools being locked down. officers thought the suspect in that incident was 19-year-old rylin wolfe-who lived with ford- but they now believe wolfe was not involved and it was ford all along. this is a photo of wolfe from an unrelated arrest. and reno police are also investigating a burglary at the junior achievement offices on tuesday. police say the suspects used rocks to break into the facilty on west sixth street after cutting a chain link fence. the owner of junior achievement says the thieves stole multiple servers... printers and phones. and the losses totaled thousands of dollars. if you know anything that can help police call secret witness at 3-2-2 49-hundred or text your tip to 8-4-7 4-1-1. retail theft schemes are getting

the truckee meadows...and it goes far beyond shoplifting. john potter shows us the organized retail crime alliance that's been formed to combat theft in our stores. ken lightfoot has been fighting crime his whole career.first as a sparks police commander, now as the loss prevention manager at scolari's. he says there's been a change in retail crime. schemes are becoming more sophisticated...of ten going online. lightfoot: "they'll take the merchandise that they stole and sell it on ebay, or sell it to another person who will sell it on ebay." and according to sparks police, retail theft these days goes far beyond shoplifting. rodrigue: "shoplifting, in the current statistic that i read recently, is only about 58% of the loss to retail. a lot of it

exchanges at the store..." john: "there's id theft, and credit card theft. the recent sophistication in retail theft, means stores are seeing new trends from thieves. here at scolari's, they've seen people looking around the parking lot...for cash register receipts." lightfoot: "now once i have a receipt, i'll check on it and see what its worth what i think is a good amount of money. i'll then go shoplift it..." ...and then bring both that item and the receipt for a cash return the next day. the losses drive up costs for retailers, which then get passed along to you the consumer. rodrigue: "a lot of these groups are so sophisticated, that they'll actually send people out with shopping lists of what they need or what they want to be stolen." 8 years ago, sparks police started a program to share information among stores about what thieves are doing. surveillance photos are shared... rodrigue: "the photographs, as soon as they download the information, immediately gets distributed to the other locations and other retailers."

welcome back... training to become a police officer is rigorous, demanding and exhausting. it can also be painful! but northern nevada law enforcement academy recruits say it's worth all the blood, sweat and tears. and as kristen remington found out... there were lots of tears on training day in particular. ...recruit being pepper sprayed... "alpha, beta, gamma!" gasping for breath, the training exercise continues. while coughing and gagging, recruits must push through the pain of being pepper sprayed... and then

"you can't stop your eyes from swelling up. you can't stop the pepper spray from getting into your lungs. so it's really difficult." in this one up 4, cameron oliver pokes the ball away, dives for it and gets it to lindsey drew....to elijah foster....and he's got the big dunk...foster a career high 11...the pack shot 52-percent and the pack defense held the falcons to a season low 52 points while they shot only 33- percent.. in a 72-52 win....and like i said, head coach eric musselman is pretty happy with that. so from a defensive standpoint i don't know if we can play any better defense then we have over an extended period of time. this team, defensively is really really good. its been our focal point all year.so you know we've been a great defensive team. we just have to take that into saturday night against fresno state. as marqueze said, next up the pack will look to take down fresno state at lawlor...tip set for 4 on saturday. the atlantis race and sports book says manager steve mikkelson made a little history today. for the 10th straight year he's

put up odds for the upcoming major league baseball season. and his favorite? the giants with 90 total wins on the season. being a big sports fan i fallow it year round. so i mean i'm constantly following the transactions and everything. but when we hit this the last 3 days. that's all i've been doing to get ready for it. i finished up last night about 10:30 at night and ready for today. so, it does take time but again it's a labor of love. the first games of the season are april 3rd....official opening day is april 4th. thanks garrett. next, mike will have a praised as one of america's best mayors who governed as a pragmatist.
