could we see snow later this week? strong winds associated with a cold front have kicked off a high wind warning for western nevada, in effect throughout the day wednesday. those winds will create an initial rain shadow for the valleys, but late in the day as the winds ease a bit we could see some rain reach the reno area. as the front moves through wednesday night snow levels will fall from 7,500' all the way down to near the valley floors, although all the heat left over from our recent warm temperatures should limit valley accumulations. high temperatures in the low 60s will crash down to the upper 40s on thursday. for the mountains, a winter storm warning will go into effect wednesday evening, with the heaviest precipitation expected to occur overnight. possible accumulations are in the one to two foot range above 7,000', with significantly less at lake level. by friday, the storm system should be out of the area, and it looks like things will warm up and dry out in time for the weekend, with

who eventually surrendered. the women were not hurt. gordon mellinger is charged with one count of discharging a firearm into a structure and two counts of child neglect. reno police have arrested a man for murder... accused of stabbing a man to death in an apartment near midtown. police arrested ... 32 year old michael robbins... on sunday night for driving a stolen car in sparks. officers then received information that he had possibly stabbed a man in an apartment. police responded to the apartment in the 100 block of malone avenue. there they found a man... who had been killed. he's been identified as 43 year old patrick drahos. detectives interviewed robbins... who police say admitted to the murder. he was arrested last night and charged with open murder with a deadly weapon. the carson city sheriff's office is asking for help finding a woman who went missing last summer. 40-year-old deanna rebelez was last seen in july... that's when when she was released from the

she's five foot 3... about 135 pounds and also goes by deanna byars. if you know where she is call carson city deputies at 283-78- 54. a new piece of crime fighting software is helping police gather online data about potential criminal suspects. but some say the program - called beware - goes too far. and could lead to people being unfairly targeted. officers in fresno, california are among the first in the nation to use the program. andi guevara reports. that's how fast it is... the software program called beware dives deep into the web - searching public records. from property archives to arrest reports, it's giving police a heads up about who officers may encounter - before they head to a call. a star warns of prior crimes. "somebody that has had a past arrest for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon... that bit of information may cause our officer to handle that

in money watch , the economy lately has not been generous for many renters, whose incomes are having a hard time keeping up with rent increases in the reno-sparks area. john potter takes a look at the latest numbers, and where the cost of housing will go from here. thorburn: "this is a model, and its set up with a one-bedroom..." emily thorburn.is busy. her apartment complex on evans avenue just opened a year and a half ago.and already, thorburn: "we're 99 percent occupied. we have 2 bedrooms available, so we're very full." so full, they're building more down the street. welcome to a world where supply isn't meeting insatiable demand. just look at the apartment vacancy rate in reno, down to under 3 percent, a sizeable drop in just the past 3 years.a huge drop over the last 6. as for
