behind me, but they now have 34. ndot hopes this will make it easier for drivers to recognize the wind restrictions and plan their travels accordingly. meg ragonese- ndot pio-either delay their travel or they can reroute themselves, we actually have positioned these signs so that they are well in advance of particular exits so if drivers need to take a certain exit prior to going through the valley, they can do that and reroute themselves." in addition to more signs...ndot has also raised the wind threshold at which drivers are allowed to drive through washoe valley. this means high profile vehicles will now be able to continue on u.s 395 when wind speeds reach up to 50 miles per hour...the previous wind restriction was 35 miles per hour. we also spoke to nevada highway patrol, who says they'll be on the look out for drivers violating the wind speed laws. duncan dauber-nhp-pio-fines that come with it are substantial, it's considered disobeying a traffic controlled device and

temperatures should limit valley accumulations. high temperatures in the low 60s will crash down to the upper 40s on thursday. for the mountains, a winter storm warning will go into effect wednesday evening, with the heaviest precipitation expected to occur overnight. possible accumulations are in the one to two foot range above 7,000', with significantly less at lake level. by friday, the storm system should be out of the area, and it looks like things will warm up and dry out in time for the weekend, with valley temperatures approaching

throughout the nation." the bipartisan group of governors... signed onto the accord as a commitment to promote clean energy, clean transportation... and a more modern electrical grid. of course... this has been a hot topic in nevada... with recent changes to net metering... which have pushed many rooftop solar companies out of the state. governor sandoval briefly addressed that issue on the conference call today. sandoval: "frankly, i'm proud of our record on net metering. i'm the one who signed three bills that stood up the solar industry in nevada." sandoval: "yes, there was a decision recently by our public utilities commission. it wasn't everything i wanted, but i'm confident that it will be a topic that will be discussed throughout the rest of this year and into our legislative session next year." the governor has come out in favor of grandfathering-in existing solar customers... so they wouldn't be affected by the new, higher rates. but the public utilities commission decided against that last week.

of governors has not been set yet. covering the story live, arianna bennett, channel 2 news. a political fight is brewing in washington over who could replace justice antonin scalia, who passed away over the weekend. justice scalia's bench and chair at the supreme court are draped in black to honor his service to the country. he will lie in repose in the court friday and will be laid to rest saturday. president obama says he will nominate a replacement in due time. pres. obama: "we're going to find somebody who is an outstanding legal mind. somebody who cares deeply about our democracy and cares about rule of law." senate republicans - lead by majority leader mitch mcconnell - are insisting they will block any nomination because they say that task should fall to the next president. some experts say because of the tension in washington -- this could end up being the longest vacancy of the supreme court's history. paul nelson talked to experts

latest political battle -- and how long it could last -- paul. landon -- jimmy carter was the last president that did not appoint a supreme court justice -- showing how important elections are when it comes to our third branch of government. as you know -- whoever is appointed to fill scalia's seat could have an influence -- decades after the president leaves office. . the federal government will have plenty of changes in the next year. one that wasn't expected was an empty seat on the supreme court. schmucker "we have a third branch. we expect that branch to function. you can't expect it to function without a person in there." schmucker expects an appointment and a vote for a possible replacement. whether that person is confirmed or not is hard to say. schmucker "both sides will spend a lot of time trying to prove their case that this person is well-qualified or is unqualified. the stakes seem to be much higher now." one reason the stakes are so high is because the next judge could potentially serve on the bench for the next 30-plus

president makes the appointment -- finding a replacement could take 13 to 16 months. hall "the constitution doesn't have any time limits. this is just true politics, i guess at it's best or worst depending on how you look at it." while many argue there is an unwritten rule that the president should not appoint a supreme court justice in the last year of his term -- hall says there's nothing in the constitution about that either. hall "the president who is in office should be able to appoint, whether that person is a republican or democrat. that is his, or maybe eventually, her constitutional right and constitutional duty." even if the republicans succeed in blocking an appointee -- hall says it could end up hurting them in the longrun. hall "it is them sending a message that they don't care about whether our government functions or not. they only care about getting their way and the american people are really tired of that message." schmucker says scalia believed in a strong and well-educated judiciary -- and that the court cannot function properly with possible 4-to-4 decisions. schmucker "i'm sure he would

what it's like to be a medical student. that's what a group of community leaders did today at the university of nevada school of medicine....with a program called 'project medical education'. amanda ketchledge joins us live at the health sciences building where the event took place. amanda, what's the purpose of this project? landon-- this day-long program lets leaders in our community experience hands on what it's like to be a medical student going through school ....and the hard work that goes into becoming a doctor. melissa piasecki, executive associate dean, university of nevada school of medicine: "i think what this really gives people the insight into is just how complex it is to be fully trained in medicine. you need so many skills, you need so much support. it gives them a chance, it gives us a chance to really understand what goes on when you do medical education." the school of medicine also tells us that this program was designed to create a more accurate knowledge for leaders in the community, so they make insightful decisions about
