looking around the nation... three sheriff's deputies were shot as they served an eviction notice in a colorado mountain community today - leaving one deputy and the attacker dead. investigators say the shooter.... who lost ownership of his home two years ago - fired at the deputies with a rifle... and was killed when deputies returned fire. one deputy had life-threatening injuries and underwent surgery... while the other's injuries are not life-threatening. the deputy who was killed had been with the park county sheriff's office for a decade. the violence happened in bailey - about 45 miles southwest of denver. there's a new chapter today in the ongoing legal saga of kennedy cousin michael skakel. prosecutors in connecticut are

conviction for the 1975 death of his teenage neighbor reinstated. skakel was convicted in 2002 of the decades old murder of his teenaged neighbor martha moxley. he had been serving more than 10 years in prison when a lower court threw out his conviction saying skakel received an inadequate defense from his lawyer mickey sherman. prosecutors say that's not true. "this was far from a slipshod defense this was a well thought out defense." but lawyers for the nephew of ethel kennedy say sherman cared more about fame than winning the case. if prosecutors lose their bid, skakel will get a new trial. he is currently out on a 1.2 million dollar bail. the texas court of criminal appeals has dismissed the indictments against former texas governor rick perry. rick perry/former texas governor: "i've always known

welcome back... every two years, the nevada legislature decides which policies will be enacted in our state. this week a group of reno middle schoolers are experiencing what it takes to turn a bill into law andi guevara was invited to judge the student presentations and has this report. "studies show that children are much safer in the back seat" for their social studies projects this semester,the seventh graders at depoali middle school have to pitch a bill - just like a lobbyist would with our legislators. sam mouradian is proposing a law that restricts where young children are allowed to sit in a car.
