happening overnight, an officer involved shooting at a silver springs casino left one man dead...and an officer injured. take a look at this map. the shooting happened at the silver springs nugget casino... at 12-80 lincoln highway around 8-30 last night. ky sisson is live there now with the latest. good morning ky, good morning john and andi. we're here at the silver springs nugget casino where the shooting happened. lyon county sheriff's office tells us there were 4 suspects involved in the shooting... one of those suspects is dead, the other in the hospital.. and the last two are in custody. a lyon county deputy is also being his hand. here's where the whole thing started. sparks police say the suspects stole a red chevy cruz at gun point... here in the 1000 block of el rancho drive... near paradise park. they say the victim was not

sparks pd put out an alert to the lyon county sheriff about the stolen vehicle heading towards yerington. a deputy sheriff found the vehicle parked here at the nugget casino. the deputy attempted to make contact, one of the subjects pulled a gun and opened fire at the deputy. the deputy returned fire. killing one of the four subjects. take a listen... mcneil- "one of the suspect produced a gun and started firing at the deputy sheriff, and the deputy sheriff returned fire and at that point in time, one suspect is dead at the scene." the deputy involved in the shooting was shot in the hand. he was transported to renown for non-life threatening injuries and is going to be okay according to sheriff mcneil. nevada division of investigation is handling the criminal aspect of this investigation. carson city sheriff's office

investigation of one of the subjects per protocol in an officer involved shooting. nobody has been identified yet. also in crime beat... a manhunt is on in the bay area...for two more suspects wanted in the murder of a man in south lake tahoe last month. "all we know is dennis wright, age 40 was in tahoe with his girlfriend. an altercation occurred... and gunshots were fired and mr. wright succumbed to his injuries." this is the shooting death we've been following since last month... at the beverly lodge in tahoe. it happened in the parking lot.. during a struggle after an apparent drug

who are disabled practice how to vote ahead of the primary and general elections. voting booths were set up at the boys and girls club to help people familiarize themselves with the voting process and to educate them about their rights while voting. organizers say voting is something that all people want to participate in, especially during a presidential election. lavonne brooks/president & ceo, hsi-warc: "it's an empowering thing that we wish to accomplish and it's really one of the privileges that we have as americans so we want them to have the richness of that experience." to learn more about voting rights for those with disabilities, call the nevada disability advocacy and law center at 8-8-8 3-4-9 38-43. turning to school watch now... our doctors will be able to get some relief from the growing demand of patients... with a new program that certifies their assistants. starting next year, the unr school of medicine will be offering a p-a masters program

it will help future graduates get hands on experience dealing with patients in family medicine, women's health, and general surgery... before becoming a physician assistant. ben hogan, physician assistant for renown: "we essentially are physician extenders. ben hogan, physician assistant for renown: "we see patients independently. we can diagnose and prescribe treatments, medicines." only 24 students will be enrolled in the first 27 months of the program. they must have a bachelor's degree... a minimum 2-point-7-5 g-p-a... and at least 2-thousand hours of paid, clinical experience. medical professionals also tell us that this program will be the first in the nevada system of higher education. and most of the graduates will have health care experience from the program, so they can go straight into the health care industry after graduation... without a residency requirement. and we have some new information about governor sandoval's possible scotus appointment... yesterday... the governor issued notified

want to be considered for the supreme court seat. the governor said he also notified senators reid... heller and mcconnell of his decision. in a statement he said, in part, quote: "the notion of being considered for a seat on the highest court in the land is beyond humbling and i am incredibly grateful to have been mentioned." end quote. wednesday... c-b-s news confirmed the governor was being vetted for the position. still to come on channel 2 news
