super tuesday -- the biggest contest so far in the 2016 election season. steve nannes reports. with a major victory in south carolina, hillary clinton is hoping to keep that momentum across multiple southern states ahead of super tuesday. sunday - clinton traveled to tennessee where she spoke to a congregation in memphis while attending a church service. presidential candidate "i will need your help on tuesday. the primary here in tennessee is very important." butt sot "i hope you will come out and vote and of course i would be honored to earn your vote on tuesday." as part of his super tuesday strategy.. senator sanders skipped the palmetto state on primary day -- and moved on to texas than minnesota. presidential candidate "i am gonna be asking for your votes on tuesday, but i need more than that from you. i need your help the day after the general election because i can't do it alone." donald trump - who won three of

contest with two back-to-back victories behind her....winning here in nevada before south carolina yesterday. meanwhile, g-o-p frontrunner donald trump continues to be a polarizing, even controversial figure in the race. yesterday, he responded to two mexican presidents who condemned his plan for a wall on the border. today, he defended a tweet that he sent out, which quoted italian dictator benito mussolini. "he knows exactly who david duke is. he was asked this morning two times, will you repudiate and condemn the ku klux klan and he refused to do that as well. we cannot be a party that nominates someone who refuses to condemn white supremacists and the ku klux klan." following rubio's comment, trump did disavow david duke after a reporter asked him at a press conference in fort worth texas. looking around the nation... an army staff sergeant is facing murder charges after police say he killed his wife and then opened fire on three police officers in a washington d-c suburb. brian webb reports. "one officer down. i don't know where the suspect is." officer ashley guindon was shot and killed saturday on her first day on patrol with the prince william county police department in virginia. "she clearly had a passion to serve others that went beyond herself." guindon

responding to a domestic dispute saturday night, about 30 miles outside of washington dc. police arrested 32 year old ronald hamilton, an active duty army staff sergeant assigned to the pentagon. they say he shot and killed his wife then opened fire on the officers. "it was very scary. i heard the shots, like 4 to 5 shots back to back." yellow tape roped off the crime scene sunday. residents paid their respects at the hospital where officers are recovering "to have this happen over something stupid is so sad." guindon, a 6 year marine corp reservist was sworn in friday. this picture of her was posted to the department's twitter page welcoming her and another officer. it said be safe. hamilton is scheduled to be in court on monday. brian webb for cbs news.

today is the 25-th anniversary of the end of the first gulf war. operation desert storm pushed saddam hussein's forces out of kuwait in the summer of 19-90. the u-s assembled a coalition that deployed more than 600-thousand troops in the region. their ground offensive expelled the iraqis in four days, following weeks of heavy airstrikes. the operation ended on february 28, 19-91... and iraq later agreed to a cease-fire. 383 americans died in the gulf war. the academy awards have wrapped up for the night. we'll tell you who took home the

the after parties are are underway-- now that the 88-th academy awards are over. the big awards were handed out on a night where lack of diversity among the nominees was hard to miss. chris martinez reports from the red carpet. the film that shined a spotlight on victims of the catholic priest sex abuse scandal won for best picture at the 88th academy awards show.
