argue... that there are nevada workers available... and tesla should up the percentage. they say tesla hires from other states... in order to save money. we reached out to tesla for a response... and a spokesperson sent us a statement saying in part quote: "in reality, more than 50% of the workers used by this contractor and more than 75% of the entire gigafactory workforce are nevada residents, demonstrating the project's strong commitment to nevada." end quote. the tesla spokesperson went on to say that-- tesla hires the best vendors and suppliers for the job, based on factors of quality, schedule, cost, reliability and reputation. turning to the crime beat.. reno police have a suspect in custody after an overnight shooting at siri's casino in downtown reno. just before midnight last night, the reno police department responded to shots fired inside the siri's casino at 241 north virginia street in the heart of downtown reno. police have identified the suspect as 38 year old kiley

open murder and police say he did not run from the crime scene or resist arrest. was compliant with officers, he was pointed out as the shooter, he was taken into custody at that time and taken down to the main police station." the victim was an off duty employee of siri's casino. police have determined there was a physical and verbal dispute between the two men. when the victim tried to walk away... police say grayson pulled out a gun and shot the man in the chest. the name of the victim has not yet been released. today during a training exercise at sugar bowl.. a search team recovered the body of a missing ski instructor. carson may disappeared last month-- after going out alone during whiteout conditions... today, his body was found in deep snow. amanda ketchledge joins us live in the newsroom with more... amanda? well ari, deputies say carson mays' cell phone was in his jacket pocket the whole time.. and the phone was in a waterproof case. but when the

the may family will hold a public memorial for carson in april-- just a couple days after his birthday. he would have turned 24 years old. covering the story, amanda ketchledge, channel 2 news. and the placer county sheriff's office has identified a woman who died after an accident at the resort over the weekend. firefighters and ski patrol responded just after 1-30 on saturday afternoon on a report of an injured skier. there they found 62-year-old elizabeth danel of olympic valley unconcious, and she later passed away. while her exact cause of death is still being investigated, firefighter say she appears to have been hurt after hitting a tree. coming up - after the homeless overflow shelter was vandalized... the city of reno is working on leasing a new location. why it's crucial to get the new

catholic charities of northern nevada is providing fresh produce for low income families.. with the ground breaking of six new hoop houses today. peter; "this is gonna be a huge addition in terms of the quality and the nutritious value of the food that they're getting. the vitamins - coming fresh out of the ground" catholic charities officials say... when struggling with a tight budget or homelessness, pricey fruits and vegetables are first to be eliminated. now hundreds of clients will get that nutrition every day at st vincent's dining room, and the pantry... as well as through the meals on wheels program. the new program expects to have its first harvest available this spring. last week, we told you how the homeless overflow shelter was forced to close because of vadalism. since then, the city of reno has been working on leasing a new location. the new building isn't ready yet, so people have been spending the night at the tables inside the warming room at the volunteers of america shelter. sandy isham, development and community relations officer for volunteers of america: "we are literally just trying to make

and don't freeze to death, during our winter, cold nights." the city and the v-o-a both say it's crucial to get a new overflow shelter up and running, because it prevents people from being in the cold when the regular shelters fill up. the ideal space would be able to fit 120 beds for the homeless to sleep. the city is hoping to have the new overflow shelter open by the end of this week. today the knitting factory announced it has closed its venue in downtown reno... and it will be reopening under a new name. the operators of the rockbar theatre- who ran a concert venue in san jose- will transition into the knitting factory space. they expect to renovate and re- brand the venue as a concert house, casino and restaurant. the knitting factory wants to thank music fans throughout the reno area for their support over the past 7 years. still to come on channel 2 news at 11 - the pentagon says u-s forces will be doing even more to help fight isis in iraq. the

looking around the world.. one of pope francis' top advisers says the catholic church has quote "made enormous mistakes" in allowing thousands of children to be abused over centuries. australian cardinal george pell testified via video-link in rome - as part of an australian inquiry into child sex abuse. he told commissioners in sydney it's a scandal that the catholic church allowed thousands of children to suffer abuse at the hands of priests. cardinal george pell/vatican treasurer: "the church in many places, certainly in australia, has mucked things up, has let people down. i'm not here to defend the indefensible." pell acknowledged he had heard an australian catholic school

military buildup in the country. a little closer to home... a police department in a washington suburb - and people all around the country, - are mourning an officer who was killed during her first day on the job. jeff pegues has the story of a young woman who dedicated-- and ultimately lost her life protecting others. 1:25 trt1:42 28-year-old ashley guindon was a decorated marine corps reservist who was just beginning a new career as a police officer. but her first day in uniform would be her last. "shots have been fired." on saturday night she and two other officers were responding to a domestic violence call at this home. as the officers approached the front, door, they were shot. "three officers shot. shots fired." guindon was rushed to the hospital where she was pronouced dead a few hours later. the two other officers are

32-year-old ronald hamilton opened fire on the officers with a rifle. hamilton - a staff sergeant in the us army, is also accused of killling his wife - crystal hamilton - in the home. the couple's 11 year old son managed to run to safety. according to the army, hamilton worked in "i-t" at the pentagon for the joint staff support center -- he joined the army in 2002 and served in iraq for two tours. prosecutors say hamilton had a previous run in with the law, but would not release details. prince william county prosecutor paul ebert. i've said it---sad, sad, sad. and it's an example of an officer's worst nightmare. officer guindon grew up in merrimack new hampshire. in her 2005 high school yearbook she wrote "live for something rather than die for nothing" jeff pegues, cbs news

today at the white house.. president obama awarded a u-s navy seal the medal of honor. u-s senior chief special warfare operator edward byers is only the fifth navy seal to receive the award. but byers was quick to share the praise with his teammates. byers: "as i turn my attention to my teammates. the important thing i want to say here is that everything we do is as a team. if it wasn't for that team i wouldn't be standing here today." back in 2012, byers helped with the rescue of an american civilian being held hostage by taliban insurgents in afghanistan. the pentagon says he used hand-to-hand combat with multiple assailants, and used his own body to shield the hostage. but the rescue also resulted in the death of a member of the navy's special warfare development group, also known as seal team six. byers performed cpr on his teammate for 40 minutes in an
