first weak cold front that moves through the region thursday. there is only a slight chance that first system will be able to overcome the shadowing effect of the mountains and produce valley rain, but the mountains should pick up some high elevation snow thursday and friday. a series of colder systems move through the region over the weekend, and it looks like the active storm track will are looking for a man suspected of holding a woman against her will in his car. police say a woman got into a car with this man on saturday in

parking lot of the western village casino, but then, she told police, she started to feel uncomfortable. when she tried to leave, police say he tried to keep her in the car, which is described as a silver four- door mitsubishi. she eventually escaped and contacted casino security. police want to find that suspect. if you can help, call or text secret witness. search and rescue crews have recovered the body of a woman reported missing last month. on saturday carolyn batchelor's body was found near inspiration point... buried in snow... close to where her vehicle was found the week before. investigators are not considering her death suspicious, though they are still looking into how she died. the western states sheriff's association is holding its annual business and training conference at the peppermill casino this week. ryan canaday checked it out earlier today... and joins us now live in the newsroom. ryan, what happens at this event? kristen, when i was down there today i saw an exhibit show where organizations were

law enforcement officials. i also sat in on a training meeting..where the sheriff's were collaborating together to resolve problems affecting them in the west. dave brown- president, western states sheriff's association-"15 western states and sheriff's from all of those being represented here, it's amazing what we can learn from each other, we're all dealing with similar issues, some are dealing with difficult issues." a few of the issues being discussed at the conference this week are the management of public lands and training of jail operations. they also look at the newest ways to use social media, and look at how law enforcement is perceived to the public. for the next few days..the sheriff's will also meet with organizations like the forest services, b-l-m and i-c-e..to discuss the best ways they can work together with the federal agencies. dave brown-president, western states sheriff's association-"when you draw a voice of 200 to 300 member sheriff's together and come to some consensus on an issue, we have some power in that voice with our federal partners." local agencies like the washoe county sheriff's office are also

conference... the event will come to an end this thursday. covering the story live in the newsroom, ryan canaday channel two news the "welcome to nevada" signs posted throughout our major freeways and state highways will be getting a new look with the help from some young nevadans. amanda ketchledge is live at one of the current signs to tell us about a state contest for high school students. amanda-- kristen--state officials tell us that this sign is out of date and doesn't reflect what nevada has to offer. so graphic design students are being challenged of create a new, friendly welcome sign for travelers. bethany drysdale, nevada department of tourism: "it could have gone to a professional graphic designer, it could have gone to a big firm or paying a lot of money for this. but what a great a way to get a student involved, to get a student to proudly say i did that. something they can put on their resume when they look for a job later." governor sandoval, along with

tourism have all teamed up to make this opportunity possible for students. three finalists from each region will be chosen and then it's up to the public to pick the winning design. right now there are 50 entry points where the new signs design would go up. bethany drysdale, nevada department of tourism : "it's really a way to get people to understand there is more out here than what they may think we hope these signs will create when tourists enter it. welcome back a new study shows the majority of seniors take four or more prescription medications a day, and often experience challenges in managing those medications. and with the more prescriptions taken, the higher the risk of unintentional misuse. accidentally taking too many medications or at the wrong time of day or with other drugs that a phsyician might not be aware of is among the most serious health risks facing seniors. it often leads to hospitilzations and long term care placements. but there is a program in town that is out to help organize and educate seniors of how to be safe when it comes to managing their prescriptions. greta- "we provide a comprehensive medication therapy management review which would idetify those at risk factors that they may be experiencing."

and which candidates came out ahead in one of the biggest welcome back, a local author feels kids of today need the values of yesteryear and so she's doing what she can to deliver them. jennie ross has been collecting stories for most of her 81 years. she's published a novel....a mystery and a collection of patriotic short stories. and now she's concentrating on a character from years ago...names slicker mcquicker. he has a band of friends andhe teaches values including safety, courtesy and anti bullying. jennie:"the reason i wrote slicker mcquicker is because it tells kids things they need to know...like when you're swimming

kids need to know." slicker mcquicker is going through an update on his looks right now but she's already put him through 50 adventures she hopes to see in schools one of these days for kids to learn from. her other books are already available at buy nevada first and through amazon. the truckee meadows water authority has about 90 wells around reno and sparks -- and they're using about 20 of them to put water back into the ground. something they've been doing since 1993. and as paul nelson shows us, it's just one more way to prepare for dry years. river flowing the truckee river is one of the areas biggest sources of water. and during the fall and winter months, it's used to rejuvenate another source. miller "we're looking at

the aquifer, putting water back into the system." winter water demand is about 25 percent of what it is during the summer -- and that allows tmwa to pump about 10 million gallons of treated water into the ground every day. miller "so we're able to use the excess treatment capacity, produce more treated surface water, spread it throughout the distribution system, and put it back into 20 different sites across town." nelson "during times when tmwa needs to draw water from the aquifer, they come to this well and pump the water through this pipe, but during times like we have right now, when there's less demand and more surface water, they bring the water through this bypass and pump it right back down to the ground." miller "it's invaluable. it's just another asset of our water supply that we can rely upon during times of need." miller says in the last 20 years -- tmwa has never had to pump as much groundwater as it did last year because of the drought. miller "we maximize surface water use when we have it available, but in times of drought, like we had last year, we rely heavily on our groundwater." more than 300 gallons of water is pumped into the ground, every minute.

gallons a minute, right now." the water treatment plant and distribution center is monitored 24 hours a day. these monitors show the maze of water mains throughout reno and sparks -- and these show the status of the wells. miller "what that shows, there, is what the water level is in the wells. you can see that we're keeping the aquifer full." and keeping the aquifers full could be critical down the road. miller "we always say we trust groundwater like money in the bank. we only use it when we have to but we like to operate need them." about 4,000 acre feet of water were pumped into the ground, year. and tmwa is looking to expand the program in the future. covering the story, paul nelson,
