this is ktvu news at noon. we begin with new information on the attack near the san jose city college that left one woman dead and another critically injured. we have heard from a witness who was in the apartment and this witness offers a possible motive for the violence. >> reporter: the witness brings you right to the scene. we are at san jose police head quarters were police are recommending homicide charges for one man and defending themselves against the family of this victim who says they delayed medical attention too long. the family is identifying the woman is verna hallens. she lived with her husband, sister and brother-in-law. neighbors say someone shot her to settle a score. it all started with an argument

at the front door. >> he said where is my knife. he said my big knife. >> reporter: she said she pleaded with the suspect to stay inside the apartment. after retrieving the knife turner went back to the front door. >> then she said you are going to stab me now and then i heard her scream. >> reporter: family members say turner showed up down the hall and shot hallens. >> he held a bloody knife up and said you get me to give this to the police. it is the murder weapon. >> the stabbing victim is in critical condition at a local hospital. family members believe turner shot hallens because she helped one of his exgirlfriends. >> she let her move in for a couple of days. >> he was saying i tried to tell them to leave me alone and i didn't know what he was

talking about. i told them when they took elaine from me. >> reporter: hallens family says police are responsible for her death because they kept e. m. t. from getting her medical attention. >> they brought her down like she is a piece of meat. >> it was a high risk contact. we take the suspect into custody. we can't pass apartment 12 for fear there is a second suspect. we have to clear the second residence which takes us a couple of minutes. >> reporter: police are saying they had to secure the scene before they could get medical attention to the woman to the apartment where the suspect was. we got the report, it came out that this started at 9:46. this afternoon police are saying 8 minutes later. sometimes when you call police

under these stressful circumstances it can seem like an hour for help when it only takes a few minutes. as for the suspect in this case he is identified as robert lee turner. he could be facic a judge on an arraignment charge as early as tomorrow. reporting live in san jose. police are asking for the public'sal help in identifying two people suspected in a deadly shooting last october. these are surveillance photographs of two possible suspectathize day the shooting took place. it is not clear which store they were in. the victim was 34 year old michael davis found in the mall's east parking garage. witnesses describe a full sized black suv with two occupants leaving around the time of the shooting. this morning authorities released the identities of two

fisher men who died when their boat capsized off the marin county coast. the men are henry from outside modesto and melvin cox, jr. from arkansas. their fishing boat was hit by a wave and capsized yesterday around noon. the coast guard has suspended a massive search for two other fisher men from the boat. they are still missing and now presumed dead. it appears no one in the boat was wearing a life jacket. the suspect who led the highway parole on a deadly chase will be in court and could be charged with murder. 24 year old is a wanted felon with a history of running from police. when officers tried to pull him over on tuesday he took off and crashed into a tom vacarying four family members.

a 15 year old girl was thrown from that car and died yesterday. the chp is investigating whether the officer who chased the suspect correctly followed the pursuit policies. oakland police are making an effort to track down the -- joining us to explain what is being done. >> reporter: the oakland police department just released more than a dozen photographs taken from citizens on the streets during last week's riots. they are asking for the public's help in trying to track down these looters and vandals. police say the people shown in these photos were exploiting a very chaotic situation. there are snap shots of people stealing sneakers and a woman taking hair extensions from a

beauty supply store and people spray painting the sides of buildings. >> there was a lot of cameras out there, media cameras and citizens had cameras. our investigators are following up on this because we need to send the message out that this will not be tolerated in our city. >> reporter: on the night of the riots police arrested 78 people. investigators are hoping to snag at least 15 more arrests after the release of these pictures. there are 15 in total. they are posted on our website at ktvu.com if you would like to see them for yourself. police are asking you to call them if you recognize anyone in the photos. they are offering up to $1,000 reward for information leading to the identification and prosecution of these people. we are getting word out of clayton that a third suspect in

a series of strong arm robberies was just arrested. police told ktvu news the 17 year old teenager came to the police station with his father a few minutes ago. officers believe he was the ring leader and was also a football player. the teens are accused of stocking victims using head phones, beating them up and demanding their devices. we have breaking news from oakland where there is word the golden state warriors have a new owner. they will pay $450 million for the team. it is the highest amount ever paid for an nba franchise. the team has had two winning seasons and one trip to the playoffs.

complaints continue about antenna reception problems with apple's new iphone. apple executives will hold a news conference tomorrow morning at 10. there is no word on what the main topic will be but most industry analysts expect the company to discuss ongoing problems with the iphone 4. consumer reports has refused to recommend the iphone because of issues with the antenna. electric cars getting high powered support today. hundreds of angry nurses will be soon heading to the home of candidate for governor megwhitman. fire forced a couple out of a home. find out what saved their lives and how it can act as a reminder for everyone.

insulation for days. firefighters say this fire is still under investigation but they think it may have been electrical. bp will likely begin a test on that newly installed oil well cap sometime today. the test will involve slowly closing down all three valves in the cap to stop the flow of oil and then monitoring the pressure for 48 hours. depending on the pressure bp will either leave the cap in place or channel some of the oil to four collective ships. the cap is a temporary measure to stop the oil while two relief wells are drilled for a permanent fix. president obama made a brief trip to michigan today. mr. obama spoke at the ground breaking for a factory that will make batteries for electric cars. although government cannot create the jobs that would
