union denies. more than 230 ac transit workers on monday, then tuesday and now today have called in sick, most are bus drivers. some transit riders have noticed a change. >> the bus driver that was driving was new. he did not know the route, wasn't nobody on the bus to show him which way to go. he passed up all of his turns. >> reporter: today, 230 out of 1200 ac transit workers called in sick. in, in the midst of a labor dispute, but the union says it's not a deliberate act. >> this is not a sick-out. ac transit has created a chaos in the way that transit is provided on the street. >> reporter: union president claudia hudson says ac transit imposed a contract on the union and made drastic changes to routes. [ inaudible ] >> reporter: for safety

reasons. >> the bus driver has diabetes who can't see at night. he's now forced to work nights. >> reporter: but ac transit spokesman says the union is being disingenuous at best. >> different people are phoning in sick at different days yet the number remains around 200 or above. they are not being honest with the public. >> reporter: singer denies allegations that drivers are being placed untrained on unfamiliar or unsafe routes. >> what's really at issue here is the union is unhappy with the contract that was imposed upon them. it freezes their wages in place and asks them to contribute to their healthcare payments. >> reporter: ac transit faces a $56 million deficit. at ept end of the month, the judge will rule on the -- at the end of the month, the judge will rule on the contract. the agency says if the judge throws the contract out, it will lose more than $50 million

and jobs will be cut. ken pritchett, ktvu channel 2 news. oakland police released the surveillance video investigators say shows two people they believe shot and killed a virginia man sunday night. 45-year-old computer engineer jinghong kang was in town for a job interview. priya david is live with the developments. >> reporter: heather, the shooting happened here outside the offices of lake merritt dental on webster street. the surveillance video shows two people walking up the sidewalk here toward the scene of the crime minutes before it happened. police today called the death of jinghong kang senseless and ridiculous, particularly since the motive appears to be robbery and the thieves killed the man for a mere $17. two people are clearly seen walking on webster.

police say no one else was captured on the tape. they also tell us the clothing matches the description they've received from the witness. sergeant mike gant says he's elated because this surveillance video could be key. >> it helps tremendously. it's a casebreaker. >> reporter: gant says similar video has helped him solve two other homicide cases. the surveillance tape has also clarified that the suspects are a man and a woman, not two men as police originally thought. they describe the pair as black between 18 and 25 years old. the man is 5'8" to 5'10" between 160 and 170 pounds. the woman is shorter between 5'3" and 5'4ed" between 140 and 150 pounds. >> i'm hoping somebody in the public will see this video and recognize who these two people are and realize this was a senseless act and call us. >> reporter: oakland police and

crimestoppers are offering a reward up to $20,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case. live in oakland, priya david clemens, ktvu channel 2 news. suspected 580 shooter byron williams did not enter a plea as prosecutors filed two additional felony charges against hill. he was pulled over in oakland on sunday night and allegedly opened fire on four chp officers before he was shot and arrested. police say the 45-year-old parolee told them he intended to kill people at the aclu and the tides foundation in san francisco. williams now faces eight felony charges. he's scheduled to return to court on august 1th. the city of oakland has agreed to a multi-million dollar settlement, some of them drug tests who accuse police falsifying warrants. the plaintiffs' attorney said

officers stated on affidavit that officers had confirmed through labs -- >> it turns out none of the drugs had been tested. essentially the warrants had been issued bayed upon perjuried testimony. >> reporter: the police department fired four officers in the case. it allowed seven others to keep their jobs after the officers argued they had been improperly trained. caltrans officially kicked off construct on the first of two tunnels to replace a section of san francisco's toil drive. the animation from caltrans shows what the results should look like two years from now. it's one of the largest and most complex projects in the nation to be paid for using federal recovery act money. >> the surface road will substantially be diminished and will be brought underthe tunnel that will connect the presidio and crissy field. this is gonna be an

extraordinary gift. >> reporter: officials estimate that project will create 6,000 jobs. a raid on a bay area marijuana growing operation this morning resulted in a man being shot and killed by law enforcement officers. and tonight, more than six hours later, investigators are still on the scene. it all happened in the santa clara county hills near alameda county. robert handa has been covering the story all day long. he's here with the latest information. robert? >> reporter: well, frank we're up here in a remote location in alameda county. near the border of santa clara county. if you follow this road which is the road close to mines road, you will get to the rocky ridge area, where the officer- involved shooting took place. the santa clara county sheriff's department has set up a command post office up the road. investigators say this morning a sheriff's department marijuana eradication team along with some alameda county deputies approached a pot growing operation on the santa clara county side.

and a man, apparently armed, suddenly appeared. >> our dispatch received a call from one of our deputies indicating that shots were fired during the operation and the suspect was dead at the scene. >> reporter: a view from newschopper2 shows a rugged terrain around the marijuana patch which officers say is typical since the heavy brush is used to hide the operation. they say today's incident is similar to the last time santa clara county deputies were involved in a pot farm shooting. in 2008, in the saratoga hills, a man fired at officers and was killed. officials say eradication teams are always prepared for an attack. >> because they have to assume that these guards at the garden are heavily armed as well. that's the reason they are very cautious when they enter the scene. >> reporter: at this point, there are no supports -- no

reports. they will be out here close to midnight. robert handa, ktvu channel 2 news. a video on youtube is raising questions about a san francisco police officer's use of force against an intoxicated woman who had been pushing a baby stroller. the video was shot on sunday afternoon and it shows the woman yelling that police were leaving her baby on the street as they tried to put her in a patrol car. an officer then appears to push the handcuffed woman to the ground. police say they began investigating the case before the video appeared and that the officer has been currently assigned to desk duty. morning gave way to celebration today as friends and family gathered to remember gospel music artest and pastor bishop walter hawkins. ♪ >> hundreds filled the theater to remember hawkins, who along with his brother founded the hawkins brothers. people remember him for his

francisco, rob roth, ktvu channel 2 news. dozens of people packed a san jose courtroom to support an anti-communist activist charged with assaulting a singer from vietnam. tong sprays charges for -- tong faces charges for spraying a singer. tong is an activist in the vietnamese community and dressed up as an old woman to sneak in the contest. he returns to court on friday. he's out on $100,000 bail. he is seeking to have his bail reduced. police are looking for whoever is responsible for a string of vandalism along mcdonald and san pablo avenues between 11:45 last night and sunrise today. police have a general description of a man who broke a window at a chevron station. america's financial institutions are scrambling to address a concept of new

regulation. many of which are still not clearly defined. president obama signed the most sweeing reform law since the great are depression. it puts new fees and limits on the nation's banks and poses restriction on derivatives to oversee mortgages and credit cards. a mortgage tracking company says default notices in california are at their lowest level in three years after posting the fifth straight quarterly decline. it's reported just over 70,000 default notice from april to june. that's almost 14% from the quarter january through march. it's down nearly 44% compared to the same period last year. on wall street today, rough morning, rough afternoon. stocks finished day on a down note. dow dropped 20 points, a loss of 1%. the nasdaq closed 35% lower, shedding about 1.5%. signs warning of possible shark sitings have been posted

at capitola -- sightings have been posted at capitola beach. yesterday two fishermen said two sharks swam around their boat. authorities were not able to confirm the sightings. but lifeguards and other people are keeping a close eye on the water. the temperatures this summer have been an average of 4 degrees lower than norm making it the coldest summer in 40 years. bill martin says low pressure trough of air over the pacific coast is pumping up the fog layer and creating the cooler- than-unusual conditions. speaking of our chief meteorologist, let's go to him and find out if it will heat up any time soon. >> temperatures tomorrow, frank, will be up 5 to 0 degrees. it will be warmer tomorrow. not hot. but they will feel hot because it's been so cold today. there's the fog. it really didn't clear from berkeley or oakland today. come in closer, you can see the

fog shooting into richmond and trying to get over the hill towards la fayette and wallny creek. these were the highs from today. these almost look like 10:00 a.m. temperatures from a week ago. 78 in antioch. 74 in livermore. that's quite cool for this tile of year. temperatures tomorrow, let's add in some case, 0, 12, 14 -- 10, 12, 14 degrees. warmer thursday. it's not a heatwave. it's j warmer than it has been. the forecast tomorrow, let's get to berkeley. about 70 degrees. we've moved through the microclimates. this microclimate on the east side of the bay out toward oakland and alameda, not that warm then you get out towards concord and clayton, mid-80s and then as you get out towards antioch and beyond, you will find your upper 80s and 90s. again, these temperatures not out of control. this is what you would expect. maybe a little cooler than you would expect this time of year. 8 degrees in downtown san jose. fire danger has been down. air quality has been good.

i keep harping on that. so often this year, three, four days a week at this tile of the year, our lead story is fire. the forecast highs. you will see the heat in the valley in the red valley and the temperatures will pull more and more. still expecting upper 80s in the warmer spots but not as cool as today. 85 in fair field. i would expect fairfield to be 92. 87 inler. 88 in antioch. pretty nice. pretty darned nice. but foggy on the coast all day tomorrow. santa cruz points to foggy down there. i don't even know if the sun came out on the west side of town. the five-day forecast and firefighters like it, air quality district likes it. i'm good with it. and mild and cool around the bay. >> if you don't like it, what are you gonna do? >> thanks, bill.

well, the healthy schools act of 2007 was supposed to limit the use of pesticides in california plea schools but that may not be happening. a new study by the california department of regulation finds that 90% of plea schools have test problems and that 50% of them use -- pest problems and that 50% of them use pesticides. >> those pesticides tend to lead gases and residues that will expose children and school workers to. >> pesticide workers want to educate how to kill pests without chemicals but groups such as pesticide watch want the legislature to pass tougher laws. coming up -- tiger woods' personal problems costing him in a number of ways but not in every day. we'll explain after the break. what this droid does will change how you do movies.
