reporting live -- on arizona's immigration law. david stevenson, ktvu channel 2 news. >> the ruling does not throw out arizona's controversial immigration law, rather it halts several key parts from taking effect until the courts weigh in on the issue. the judge blocked three important sections of the law -- the requirement that police check a person's immigration status while enforcing other laws, also requiring immigrants to carry their papers at all time. >> today a key piece of the new span of the bay bridge was put into place. construction crews carefully lifted and secured the first section of what will be the bridge's significant tower. tom vacar is live on treasure island. >> reporter: indeed we're building a badly-needed bridge. but in fact we're leaving a

month and will end when lawmakers pass a budget. >> because the legislature has failed to produce a budget and because the controller has said that we are going to issue ious in august we're facing a cash crisis and the governor has to whatever he can do in his power to avert that cash crisis. >> some departments are exempt as well as workers in six unions, that recently reached a labor agreement with the governor. a downbeat economic report from the federal reserve and orders for federal goods fell down. ac transit is threatening to eliminate all weekend bus service if union workers refuse to approve millions of dollars in contract concession. ac unit is facing a $56 million deficit over the next two years. the agency imposed controversial new work rules last month after bitter contract negotiations broke off with the amalgamated transit

union. ac transit claims 150 drivers have been calling in sick every day for the past week because of the labor dispute and that's led to delays and cancellations on a number of bus routes. >> ultimately weekend service ending could be a result of the union's efforts to overturn the -- >> black bill. they are blackmailing the public to get the public on their side. >> ac transit says if it does decide to eliminate service on the weekends it will give the public six weeks' notice. >> people think coming out for

christien kafton is live with more. >> reporter: we were on hand watching crews hard at work on tiburon boulevard. today they were preparing the site. take a look at the camera. you can see they've already dug the hole where one of the town's license plate damrahs -- cameras will be located. >> cars, truckses and suvs roll in and out of tiburon on two major arteries. within a week that could all change. as in the simulation, the cameras will capture the license plates of everyone going in and out of tiburon. >> police chief cronin is the man behind the program. >> this is what we're in, in post-crime investigations you can go back and determined if a vehicle registered to a particular person was in a place. the chief said the idea was already under consideration

some people who were hurt in a fresno bus crash are now suing greyhound. the bus hit an overturned suv on highway 99 last thursday. the driver was among the six people killed. today, six survivors filed suit in a sacramento court. they say greyhound should pay damages to those injured and the families of those killed because the bus driver did not fulfill his duty to transport the passengers safely. there's been no comment from greyhound. hundreds of firefighters are working in kern cork to try to surround two large wildfires that have already destroyed dozens of homes. the 140000-acre fire is burning. the west fire tore through homes near the community of ed west ranch. at this hour, flames are threatening 150 additional homes and the fire is only 25%

contained. a wild ride ended in a big mess in a peninsula neighborhood after a cement truck went out of control. the driver was taking -- was making a delivery on kenmar way in burlington when the brakes reportedly failed. the truck rolled. the vehicle finally stopped in a backyard and the driver received minor injury. pg&e crews worked until late this afternoon to restore power to the neighborhood. there's now more time for californians to cash in on the state's rebate program for appliances. plus -- >> unusually cool weather means grapes that should be purple are still green. what this means for the bay area wine industry ahead. and we had plenty of sunshine today. it cleared off at the coast. temperatures a good 3 to 6 degrees warmer today than they were yesterday. i will have tomorrow's

merlot -- >> we could catch up quite a bit and get back on track. >> reporter: you're optimistic. >> i am. i need to be, to be in this by. >> reporter: also optimistic are dozens of small growers who sell grapes. last year a glut of grapes hurt them. they could cash in when the harvest begin in about six weeks. reporting like in sonoma, john fowler, ktvu channel 2 news. the state is expanding the cash for appliances program to get even more californians to buy more energy-efficient appliances. it was voted to vote solar hot water system as well as heating and cooling products that qualify for cash back from the government. the initial commission has received 70,000 applications for cash back since launching the program in april. >> it's helping to drive jobs, stimulate the economy. retailers are telling us they

are hiring additional staff. ktvu.com has a list of what qualify fies for the program -- qualifies for the program. the howard jarvis says brown is -- well, a carolina than expected day around the bay area. it's been cooler for a while now. let's check in with our chief meteorologist bill martin for the full forecast. bill? >> yeah, temperatures below the average really for most of the spring. highs maybe a good 5 degrees below. it's given us nice air quality. things are going to warm up

each day as we roll to the weekend. outside we go and the thing i can point out immediately on the satellite image, you can see the fog's cleared from the coast. we haven't been seeing a lot of clearing. but yesterday and then again today we saw some clearing. look at the temperature profile. come in taught here, you can see the -- come in tight here. you can see the heat in the valley. it will start nudging westward. look at sacramento at 87. that's -- that's 10 degrees cool he than you might expect for this time of year. the forecast for antioch will come in real close and antioch has good air quality, not a nasty fire danger. the forecast high for your thursday, just 84 degrees. so the extended forecast calls for some warming but it's a slow warming. so a degree or two each day. fog tomorrow morning, boy, that looks like yesterday's fog forecast. it does a lot of coverage. not quite up into napa or calistoga. it's getting in there.
