i'm paul chamberses. we'll tell you about a power outage coming up. it's been almost a month since the tolls increased on the bay bridge. how is that change impacting your commute? the ktvu channel 2 morning news continues. well, good morning to you, welcome back, i'm dave crome. it is thursday, july 29th. >> and i'm claudine wong, pam cook has the day off. let's get a look at weather and traffic here's steve paulson.

all right, claudine and dave. the fog has come down a little bit to about 1800 feet, so it's going to be a little bit cooler around the coast. around the bay, not much change. inland, maybe a couple of degrees warmer, not much. here's an update on the traffic with sal. steve, the traffic is doing very well getting out of downtown. you can see it's light getting out of the valley. also, this morning, we are looking at the grade, it's looking good. pg&e is working to return power to many of the residents after a suspect crashed during a police chase. paul chambers joins us live. good morning, paul. >> reporter: good morning, claudine, we are about a mile away from where it happened. the lights are back on in this area, but they were out for about an hour. we will explain exactly why.

now, there was a short chase involving chp officers and it ended up in hayward. according to the officers, it went to highway and surface street. the driver tried to turn onto washington avenue which the police believe he was trying to get back on interstate 880 the driver ended up hitting this power line. the power was out for a short while. it's being restored as we speak. now about 5000 customers were without power. they are working to restore it once again in the area. chp did not say why they were trying to pull over the person, or what that person will be charged with. we will, of course, stay on top of that and bring you the very latest. reporting live, i'm paul

chambers ktvu channel 2 morning news. thank you, paul. the oakland police are searching for whoever shot a man who was on a bicycle during an attempted robbery. this happened around 2:00 a.m. the police say the gunman was trying to steal the young victim's bike when witnesses heard several shots. the police say several good samaritans helped to rush the victim to get medical treatment. yesterday, oakland police held a meeting with other law enforcement agencies to avoid a repeat of the protests that happened after mehserlie east sentencing. well, a spectacular construction project now on the way could cause -- now underway could cause back ups on the bay

bridge. the crews are installing the first section of the tower. this critical stage of the bridge project is expected to take about three weeks. the new and higher tolls on the bay bridge are thought to be cutting the traffic. delays in reaching the toll plaza from nearby freeway ramps has fallen from 19 minutes to 10 minutes. there's also been an increase in bart ridership since the rates went up to $6 this month. sal has been. watching bart and the delays are getting better right, sal (. they have been. those are your numbers, give yourself extra time. let's look at some of the pictures. westbound traffic is moving along well heading out to the

mcarthur maze. no problems on the bridge. and if you are driving on westbound 237, that traffic looks okay. 6:04. let's go back to steve. >> all right, sal, thank you, sir and lots of gray out there. fog, low clouds. a little bit of mist, drizzle, not much, but a little bit more than yesterday. it's cold, upper 40s to low 50s. by noon, the fog will be peeling back, sun, inland mild depending on if you get the sun, then it won't be bad. breezy, sunny, mild to warm. thunderstorm activity seems to be winding down, a couple of active days, but it's now off to the side. the fog is there, it's a little bit shallower, though. overcast, breezy. warmer air has moved in the higher elevations, but at the surface, it's rather cool.
