>> it is friday, august 20. police are not taking any chances following a bomb threat at santa clara school. all morning officer have been securing the area. moments ago, they started allowing people on to the campus. >> reporter: good morning. let me show you the situation right now. you can see the police cars behind me. people now just beginning to make their way into a children's center. for a while, everyone was being kept off campus because they were finishing a search of the campus. they had a bomb-sniffing dog out here making sure everything was secure. you will see an increased presence out here today at briarwood elementary. at this point, i know the plan is to have school as usual today. what can you tell parents who are maybe feeling a little

unsure about bringing their kids? >> that's correct. the school is open, business as usual. we realize that parents are concerned, and we appreciate that concern. we want them to know that we are taking steps to keep their children safe today. >> reporter: this bomb threat was made through graffiti on a door august 4 saying a bomb would be detonated today. how serious is that threat? do we think it was a hoax? is there anything that has given you any kind of hint on how credible that is? >> you're right. it was graffiti on a door. it's impossible to tell if it's a hoax or if it was a legitimate threat. we're taking it serious because it is an elementary school. in the back of our minds, we're hoping it just was a hoax. >> reporter: i know it's been described as amateur. does it lead you to believe it was a kid who did it? >> it's quite possible it was a

young person who did this. it's impossible to say though. it was writing on a door that said a bomb would go off today, so we're going to take steps to make sure it's safe. >> reporter: tell me what parents will see as they come here throughout the day. >> there will be a uniform presence throughout the day today. i'm not going to get in too much specifics, but they will see uniformed officer and increased security. >> reporter: okay. thank you for joining us with the update. we've seen a couple kids going into the children's center within the last couple minutes. when we got here earlier, we did see that dog going through the campus and searching to make sure everything was secure. we should mention the district did sent a letter to the parents alerting them about what happened and telling them if their kids decide not to come to school, it will be an excused absence. certainly, they are hoping th come to school.

>> okay. thank you. time now 7:03. gilroy police wrapping up a major drug bust. they say it's taken millions of dollars worth of drugs off the streets. police raided a home yet at roop road and new avenue east of highway 101. police say the drugs had a street value of $100 million and were seized, including 500 pounds of meth methamphetamines. >> i have never seen anything like this. >> the investigation began about a year ago in sacramento. the case eventually led to the gilroy location, which police say is connected to a lucrative mexican drug cartel. three people were arrested. they're now facing several drug charges. raids were also carried autono sacramento.

santa clara authorities are investigating a horrible incident at a concert in saratoga. this is a photo from the mountain winery last night where witnesses say a man jumped from the top of that building in the background and landed on the stage. the man was given cpr immediately, but he did not survive. we spoke to authorities this morning, and they told us they are investigating the case as an apparent suicide. they are still trying to piece together what happened and are asking witnesses to come forward. one man was hurt after crashing into a home in milbray overnight. craig now with reactions. >> reporter: i'm standing in front of one of the homes that suffered the worst damage, actually the only damage. i wasn't able to show you this

earlier because it was dark, but you can see what this blue truck did at this home. not only at this home, but a couple of cars that were parked on the street. not all the damage is here. some of the cars have been towed. the driver's first victim is a tree on one side of the street. the tree held its ground, but that was the only thing the truck hit that wasn't badly damaged. twenty yards down the road, the truck hit a parked mini van. you can see it was just crushed and probably had something to do with the speed. police say the truck was probably going about 40 miles an hour. before the truck came to rest, it shaved off stucco of that house. finally, it hit a vox wagon. >> i've seen a couple of cars that go really fast that speed right here at the crossover. they turn to fast and have

accidents. >> the high school is just down the block. unfortunately, i think a lot of the teenagers run the stop sign here. they don't kind of give the curtesy of the right-of-way. >> reporter: what happened to the driver to the blue truck. police say the driver is a 25- year-old man but didn't give his name. he was treated for minor injuries at hospital but then released. police say the man will likely be responsible to paying repairs. it could go in the thousands of dollars. police cited him for only a dui. coming up at 7:30, we have reaction from neighbors on the man just getting a criation and not going to jail. >> okay. thanks. police arrested a man described as an habitual dui driver after a check showed he had more arrests and

convictions than thought. he had eight arrest in conviction for dui between 1976 and 2002. he was arrested last month after crashing into a concrete median. he was also picked up earlier this week for two dui crashes. he's off the streets now. he's in jail. bail is set at $250,000. all right. time is 7:07. as we talked this hour, we just want to give an update that apparently there are some air traffic control problems causing significant issues in northern europe. all flights are canceled in and out. we'll continue to follow that and give you an update. meanwhile, we want to check on things close at home. >> reporter: you mentioned the air delayed. we could have some air a delays, certainly not as significant as in europe. here, because of the fog.

san francisco is likely to have a ground delay program. in fact, we have some foggy commutes with drivers. 280 is not foggy here. in fact, that's overcast. traffic is moving well. let's move along and take a look at 880. you can see in the east bay, this is not really the problem here. the fog is not an issue for drivers. however, after driving into the west bay, and here's the back- up at the toll plaza. san francisco and that area, thick fog you'll have to be careful with. make sure you give yourself extra time. speaking of the fog and the weather, let's bring in steve. >> reporter: good morning. low clouds and fog. i realize some of you are just waking up or haven't had your

coffee yet. i'm going to show you yesterday's highs. hold on. there you go. this is after a low 49. fairfield, 92. san jose checked in at 83 degrees. it's been a long time since we've had temperatures like that. it's just been a cool summer. so we get that warm weather, and we're going to take that into the weekend, right? no. one low coming in being drawn up by a much stronger system. they're going to push the fog bank in and give us a cooler weekend. yesterday the wind was calm. in travis, it was about 12 miles an hour. it's up to 28 today. that's a huge sign it's going to be cooler. cooler not only today but also into saturday. saturday looks to be the coolest day, windy at times.

city violence. we yuma learn later today whether charges will be dropped against the former police crime lab technician deborah madden. police chief will make an announcement this afternoon about the investigation. we've learned the state attorney general seems unlikely to invest the time and money to prosecutor madden for allegedly stealing cocaine from the police lab. we've also learned that the police investigation is centered around a paper used in the lab to wrap narcotics. madden's lawyer says it would be difficult to prove the paper came from fed lab. for most state employee, today is a furlough friday. the state supreme court ruled on wednesday that furloughs can resume for about 150,000 state employees because of the budget. some of the state office closed today including the dmv as well as the departments of public health and fish and game. governor schwarzenegger has

ordered workers to take not only today but also next friday off and also a floating unpaid day before the end of august. 7:17, the fbi is now trying to track down the personal responsible for making a threat about a plane at ffo. pam cook is in the news room with an update. >> reporter: good morning. the fbi has determined that the phone call that sparked the grounding of that jet yesterday was not credible. we have learned that it came from the hampton inn and suites on harbor bay parkway. the front desk clerk says he received the phone call around 9:00 in the morning, which was about 30 minutes before the plane's newly scheduled departure. >> the first 15 seconds were all mumbled. i couldn't understand, couldn't pick anything up. after that, what he could gather from the 45 second conversation, he said a lot of

it was hard to pick up. he gathered, i'm going to high jack flight 124. >> the hotel manager went on to praise his front desk clerk with his quick action in reporting the calls. the call mentioned a specific american airlines flight and prompted the grounding of that plane for hours on the tarmac yesterday. flight 24 was headed for new york, but was instead diverted after leaving the gate. all 163 passengers and 11 crew members were allowed to leave the plane about four hours later. they did have to undergo additional security checks before being rebooked on later flights. all right. thank you, pam. 7:19, american airlines could be hit with a record fine from the government. the wall street journal reports

the faa will order american to pay a $25 million fine for shortcomings with its maintenance procedures. the paper says maintenance problems with landing gear head to thousands of flights being canceled in 200. the airline says there's been no notice from the faa and there's no reason for this type of government action. starbucks claims better than expected sales of its via coffee. employees say they're actually pressures to push sales of the instant coffee. there are reports that workers have rung up sales as via sales. starbucks says it is aware of the reports but believe they are isolated incidents. time now 7:20. a very rare shark has been captured in the san francisco bay. up next, we'll tell you where

look at this. this happened yesterday afternoon after a construction crews broke a natural gas line. around a the same time, that mail truck rolled up, went right over that broken line. firefighters say as the truck pulled away, it caught fire. luckily, the mail carrier was not hurt. the flames destroyed the truck and all of the mail inside. 7:23, a bill that could expand the state's amber alert system to include blue alerts. it's now on the governor's desk. the state senate passed the bill unanimously yesterday. the blue alerts would alert the public when a police officer is killed or seriously injured and the suspect is on the loose. the alerts would also give descriptions of the suspect or vehicle on television, radio, and freeway signs. those amber alerts have certainly been effect. this might help police.

it is 7:30. this morning, san francisco police are canvassing the burnal heights neighborhood trying to find witnesses to a fatal shooting. it happened just after midnight. police were called in after somebody reported shots being fired. police then found the victim who died at the scene. his name has not been released, but it's believed the victim was 18 years old. earlier, a 19-year-old man was shot and killed in san

francisco's ocean view neighborhood. it happened about 6:40 last night. the victim was taken to san francisco general hospital where he later died. richmond police are out there looking for two suspects this morning who shot and killed a teenager at a bus stop. 16-year-old akeem rouse was gunned down about 10:00 a.m. yesterday. he had just finished an orientation at high school. he was waiting at bus stop for a ride from his mother. police say that's when two men walked up to rouse, shot him several times. the suspects escaped, but a weapon that may have been used in that shooting was found about block away. there's no clear description of the suspect. detectives are still trying to figure out a motive. it is 7:31. oakland police are warning people to be on alert following

a daylight attack. now a look at clues investigators have in this case. >> reporter: good morning. oakland police do have a warning for anyone walking in the city. they say walk in pairs. there's strength in numbers. report anything suspicious. when you get in your car, immediately lock it. that's because a woman reported a sexual attack right here in this parking garage. this garage is just behind city hall. this warning comes after this woman reported being sexually assaulted in the afternoon in this parking garage at 1414 clay street. the woman told the authorities the attack happened last thursday afternoon around 12:30. that's lunchtime. even scarier for the victim, she spotted her attacker on 14th street wearing headphones and large, dark sunglasses. this morning, police want to share a description. officer are describing him in his early to mid-30s, african-

american, about 5'9" and 200 pounds. he also has some distinguishing characteristics. he's missing a front tooth on the left side of his mouth, has a short afro, and is medium complected. if you have information, you're asked to call police immediately. >> all right. thank you. it is 7:32. pleasantton police have arrested a nebraska man for alleged child molestation. he's facing local charges after police say he drove across state lines to sexually molest a 13-year-old california girl. the 35-year-old man has been in jail since july 24 when police pulled him over at a traffic stop and became suspicious of the girl who was riding in the car with him. kids are in classes today at briarwood elementary school, but there are a lot of police

on campus. this follows a bomb threat made on august 4. it came through gray fee fee written on a door that said a bomb would be set off on campus sometime today. a police bomb detection dog searched the campus this morning. a major crash left a path of destruction overnight. craig is out there with more on what happened with the suspect and also what the neighbors are saying about this. good morning, craig. >> reporter: good morning. behind me are a couple cars that got damaged. behind those car, the house that bore the brunt of the damage. this morning, a couple of neighbors we've spoken to have some questions about how police handled the person suspected of causing all this damage and damage to several vehicles. police say the driver of a blue truck was under the influence

when he drove up the street shortly after midnight. police arrived on the scene and evaluated the driver. they decided he shouldn't have been driving, but they didn't book him into the county jail. >> wow, that's surprising. >> what's surprising? >> that they didn't arrest him. i wonder why that is. i think with a dui he would get arrested. >> after seeing the damage, that's actually surprising. >> they didn't take him to jail. >> i'm not aware of the laws, but it seems to me he went off really light. we'll see, i guess. >> reporter: instead, police took the man to the hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and issued a citation

for dui. he will be responsible for paying for damages. the driver was the only person injured in this crash. >> all right. thank you, craig. it is 7:35. the salmonella outbreak linked to the recall of millions of eggs from an iowa company will likely grow because illnesses through the past month have not been reported yet. about 2,000 people have been sickened. the fda says the outbreak could have been prevented if some new federal rules requiring more testing for salmonella were put in place earlier. the rules went into effect in july nationwide. california already has those standards in place. all of the stores in the three largest drugstore chains in the country will start offering flu shots by next week. this is the earliest walgreens, rite-aid, and cvs have ever offered flu shots.

this is because of last year h1n1 outbreak. many stores already have the vaccine in stock. one of the best cities to keep your kids feeling safe and the out of harm's way it right here in the bay area. according to men's health magazine, san francisco is the third safest city in the united states, only following madison, wisconsin, and honolulu, hawaii. the researchers created these rankings looking at accidental death rates in children, sex offenders, and child safety laws. by the way, they say the least safe city in america is jacksonville, florida. >> wow. all right. let's check in with sal. it is 7:37. you say it's pretty quiet, kind of end of august. people maybe getting away early. >> reporter: yeah, last minute vacations. it's a friday. we've been looking at all the sources. not even any tweets this

good morning to you. welcome back. after almost three weeks on the run, two of america's most wanted fugitives are now in police custody in arizona. investigators tracked prison escapee john and his fiance to a campground near the new mexico border. after track license plates on the car, they found out it had been stolen in new mexico. the man told police he should have gone into his don't get his gun. he said he would have killed the forest ranger. fran police are trying to figure out who made a crank 911 call yet that led to some tense moments at the famed tattage grill. police received a call a that a man was on the restaurant's roof shooting at people below

officer quickly swarmed the restaurant. >> they started walking down california. there were several officers, all guns drawn. they pointed at me and said i needed to get out of here. i booked it down the street. >> police determined the call was a hoax. the number of crimes committed at san francisco's main library is on the increase. the library reported 28 assaults and 49 thefts. that's up compared to the year before. the number of drug related incidents dropped this year from 43 to 33. the library has beefed up security and is working with counselors to help repeat offenders. staffers add there has been a 10% increase in the number of people using the library. time now 7:54. the state assembly passed a bill requiring young skiers to

wear a helmet. it mandates skiers under the age of 18 to wear a helmet. any parents who ignore the law could be fined $25. supporters say it will save lives. critics say this fringes on parents responsibilities. all right. we'll check in with sal. you're keeping an eye on things. >> that's right. traffic is doing pretty well heading south. no major problems as you head down to the toll -- i almost said toll plaza. there's no toll there. i don't want to scare you. let's look at 880 north and southbound. the traffic here looks good as you drive northbound, especially. this is where it starts to get busy. it hasn't yet. at the toll plaza, we haven't had a big back-up all day.

have been all morning for a bomb threat. a dramatic scene overnight. we'll show you damage left behind after a driver lost control of his vehicle in this peninsula neighborhood. heavy fog is blanketing many parts of the bay area and could be a problem for some drivers. the second hour of "mornings on 2" starts now. good morning. welcome back to "mornings on 2." i'm tori campbell. >> good morning. i'm dave clark. welcome to a friday morning. well, in the news right now -- students are beginning to arrive at briarwood elementary school at this hour, despite a heavy police presence on the campus. now, police are not taking any chances. this follows a bomb threat at the santa clara school. ktvu's claudine wong is out there right now with the very latest. so how's it going, claudine? >> reporter: well, good morning, dave. school starts in about 40 minutes here. santa clara police are on scene right now. they have been all morning long. take a look behind me.

you can see a couple of santa clara police cars in that parking lot. there are a couple more in front of the school. they've been out here all night. they had a bomb-sniffing dog going through the school, making through everything was safe and secure. they are responding to a bomb threat two weeks ago. i'm joined by the spokesperson for the school district. taba thaw -- tabatha. we've seen a lot of security out here. how secure are you feeling now as students are expected to arrive in the next 40 minutes or so? >> we feel extremely secure. santa clara police department has been outstanding, as usual. they work with our schools all of the time. they've been here through the night and they will be here today. i think this is one of the safest places to be in santa clara. >> reporter: and certainly, you are hoping the students will be here. you sent out a letter. but are you expecting some

parents to say, you know what? we don't want to go there. we'll keep them home? >> absolutely. that's a family's decision. it's whatever the family feels comfortable with, whether it be the child himself or herself who feels uncomfortable. >> reporter: this has been a lot of buildup. this was found august 4th. we've had a chance to think about it, settle in. some of the teachers we've talked to have noticed all of the -- all of this all week. you want people to see this when they come in, maybe make them feel better when there's extra security. >> well, the police are running this operation here and i'm shufer -- i'm sure it makes people feel comfortable that the dog has been through. >> reporter: so parents still on the fence at home, obviously you want them to come here and you want the kids to learn.

>> it's always better for a student to follow their regular schedule. but it is the family's decision. we support either decision. if the kids want to come, we would love to have them. >> reporter: thanks for joining us. you are taking a live look at the front of the school right now where you have a couple of more officers from the santa clara police department. we counted about seven officers out here this morning. again, you will see this if you are dropping your kids off at school here this morning. they won't give us details about what exactly they have planned in terms of security. but you will see a presence. we should mention, the bomb- sniffing dog did go through the campus. that dog checked out flower beds, doors. the dog came up with nothing. the lieutenant says that makes him very confident that this will be a safe place for the students today. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. >> school begins at 8:40?

>> reporter: 8:40. so we'll be talking to parents as they drop off their kids and have an update on that. >> thank you. three minutes after 8:00. gilroy police are wrapping up a major drug bust that they say have taken millions of dollars off the street. this is east of highway 10 1. drug agents seized about 500- pounds of methamphetamine and more than 80-pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of up to 1 100 million. >> within with the sheriff's department for 31 years. i've been in the narcotics field in one form or another for 18 of those years. i've never seen anything like this. >> reporter: the investigation started about a year ago in sacramento. the case eventually led to the gilroy location which police say is linked to a lucrative mexican drug cartel. three people were taken into custody and are now facing a number of drug charges. raids were also carried out in

sacramento and modesto. 8:04. santa clara county authorities are investigating something horrible that happened last night at a concert in saratoga. take a look at this photo. it's from the mountain winery last night. witnesses say a man jumped from the top of that building and in the background you see there and landed on the stage. the man was given cpr right away. you about he did not survive. we talked to authorities this morning. they told us they are investigating this case as an apparent suicide. but they are still trying to figure out exactly what happened. they are asking any witnesses to come forward. it is 8:05. one man was injured after crashing into a millbrae home overnight. kraig debro joins us now with reaction from neighbors, specifically about what happened to the suspect. good morning, kraig. >> reporter: good morning, tori. i was just speaking with a millbrae auf. we have a little bit of an explanation about what happened to the neighbors. a lot of people are starting to

wonder why was the suspect just given a citation, especially given all of the damage he caused. this is a house on sequoia at south ashton. they actually have a maintenance out here starting to repair some of the damage right here. let's take a look at some of the video. police say the driver of a blue truck was under the influence when he drove up sequoia shortly before midnight. at the time, the man was finished, the minivan totaled a honda and had significant damage. when police arrived on the scene, they evaluated the driver and decided he should not be driving but they did not book him into the county jail. >> wow. that's surprising. >> what's surprising? >> that they didn't arrest him. and i wonder why that is because with a dui, you would think he would get arrested. >> after seeing the damage, that's surprising. >> reporter: did they take him to jail?

>> i'm not aware of the laws but it seems to me he went up on really -- we'll see, i guess. >> reporter: instead, police took the man to the hospital where he was treated for a minor injury or minor injuries and issued a cites station for a dui. police say he could be responsible for all. damage. i just spoke with the millbrae police officer a couple of minutes ago. he told me the suspect was arrested. all of the arrest procedures were followed. the suspect was not handcuffed because he was injured but his rights were read to him. however, this is considered a misdemeanor because the suspect was the only person injured in this crash. had somebody else been injured, it would have been considered a felony and the suspect would have been booked into the county jail. reporting live in millbrae, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, kraig. seven minutes after 8:00. petaluma police arrested a man described as a habitual dui

driver after a check showed he had more arrests and convictions than first thought. police say a recent check shows 52-year-old james timothy mccrowen had eight arrests and convictions between 1996 and 2002. he was arrested last month and was also picked up this week for two dui crashes in marin county. he's off the streets and sitting in a marin county jail. bail is set at $250,000. let's go to sal see what's happening on the roads as we speak. >> all right. it's been pretty quiet out here. let's take a look at the commutes that are normally very crowded. when you see 237 at 880, not showing slow traffic. that means we have a relatively light commute today. i'm sure there will be people out there that will see something different. we have a relatively light commute here.

the anonymous cabdriver who was called a hero after the recent killing of a german tourist will be honored today in san francisco. the luxor cabbie is credited with trailing and following a suspicious car from the scene of that deadly shooting. now, his actions efn abled the police to -- enabled the police to take five people into custody. although no one has been charged yet in the case. the cabdriver wants to stay anonymous until the killer is locked up. so he will arrive at today's honorary and very special luncheon surrounded by a dozen coworkers hoping to conceal his true identity. in the meantime, gorge gascon is -- george gascon is angry about the death who -- of the tourist hit by that stray bullet. he recently told police commissioners that they need to be more concerned that an innocent bystander became the victim of criminal activity in

the city. according to "the examiner" officers will be arresting people who came to a nearby band, the venue of the shooting. there is now a $50,000 reward for any information that leads to the death of david lewis. in the weeks after his death, investigators followed up on the information he gave them after he was shot at hillsdale mall in san mateo. at a community meeting last night, the police explain why some might think the investigation is proceeding slowly. >> i have ten detectives working this -- this case. they all have their own kers series. unfortunately in a traumatic event, not everyone sees things the same way. >> there are rumors that lewis told police who shot him before he died. police confirm he was talking before he shot but thi thought i would survive and decided to

question him once he recovered. we should learn today whether charges will be dropped against debra madden. gorge gascon will make an announcement in the afternoon regarding the investigation. ktvu has learned that the state attorney general is unlikely to invest the time and money to prosecute madden for stealing cocaine from the lab. we've also learned that the police investigation centered around a paper used in the lab to wrap narcotics. madden's attorney said it would be difficult to prove the paper came from that lab. well, the fbi is determined the phone call that trigger inned the grounding of an american airlines jet yesterday was not credible. we found out the call came into the hampton inn and suites. the front desk clerk said he got the threat about 30 minutes before the plane's newly-

scheduled departure. >> the first 15 seconds, we're all much belled. couldn't understand anything, couldn't pick it up. after that, what he could gather from the 45-second conversation, he had a lot of it was very hard to pick up. he did gather, i'm going to hijack flight 24 on american airlines. >> the hoe praised his clerk for acting quickly -- the hotel praised the clerk for acting quickly. the call mentioned a specific american airlines flight. it prompted the grounding of the plane for hours on the tarmac yesterday. the flight was headed to new york but was diverted shortly after leaving the gate as police officers and federal agents swarmed in to investigate. all 163 passengers and 11 crew members were allowed to leave the scene about four hours later. american airlines could be

hit with a record fine from the government. in our meteorologist. we do have some very, very heavy fog out there. yesterday we had fog but it burned off fast and temperatures, they zoomed up there now by the coast. the fog burned off and there was sunshine. inland is where they really warmed up, in the 90s. a lot of fog and there's two systems coming in. both of them for the -- to the left of your screen, this time of year very strong. it will mean a big-time cooling trend. cooler, breezy. some inland areas will be in the upper 80s, low 90s. but the majority will come down about 5, to 0 degrees. 52 to 61 in san jose even with fog. you can see these systems come together and they will sweep in and increase the low clouds and fog tonight into saturday. i think it will be cool up to 2,000, 3,000 feet that the fog

graffitid door. that threat said the event would happen today. one mom said her daughter will not be coming to school. >> i called the police and i said she's not coming in today. >> reporter: you're not gonna bring her in? >> no, i'm not. >> reporter: why not? you see the police here -- >> better safe than sorry. i just feel comfortable. >> reporter: okay. >> you never know, really. >> reporter: santa clara police say they want people to feel comfortable about sending their kids to school today. you are looking at video that we shot this morning. santa clara police were actually here all night long on campus. they had a bomb-sniffing dog going through the campus checking every door, every flower bed, every tree, every bush and they say that dog didn't find anything. that should make people feel very secure. they say they will be also out here all day long through

campuses. we've seen several police vehicles including motorcycle officers coming through here. they don't know who made this threat. they will only say it was amateurist scrawl which leads them to believe it could have been a kid of some sort that actually made the threat. they are still looking into that. for thousand -- for now, they say if parents don't want to send their children here at the school, it will be considered an excused absence. they don't want to make anyone feel like they are uncomfortable sending their child to school. it remains too be scene -- to be seen how many kids will be in class. claudine wong, back to you. >> thank you. san francisco police are investigating two deadly shootings that happened hours apart. the most recent one happened just after midnight in the 9 hublg block of ellsworth street. police were called in after getting reports of fire --

shots fired. now, earlier, a 19-year-old man was shot and killed in san francisco's ocean view neighborhood. this happened around 6:40 last night at capital and lobo street. the victim was rushed to san francisco general hospital. that's where he died. police detained several suspects. they recovered a gun at the scene. they believe that attack may have been gang-related. there is a warning for people in the oakland area following a sexual assault that happened in broad daylight. jade hernandez is in the downtown area with some reaction. >> reporter: good morning. oakland police have a warning for anyone walking in the city. go in pairs, build strength numbers. report anything suspicious. when you get into your car, lock it up immediately. a won told police that she was

sexually sexually assaulted inside this parking garage right here. the woman reported being sexually assaulted in the afternoon at this parking garage 1414 clay street. the woman told authorities the attack happened last thursday afternoon until 12:30. even scarier for the victims, she spotted her attacker again on 14th street. he was wearing headphones and large dark sun glasses. this garage is behind city wall. we spoke to a woman this morning who said she was only parked in the garage twice. but she stays aware of her surroundings just in days -- just in case something -- it's not -- i'm always aware. i always try to be airway of my surroundings and make sure i can get in and out of my car as quick as possible. >> reporter: this morning police want to give you a description of the suspecter. officers are describing the man as in his early to mid-30s,

african-american, about 5'9" and 200-pounds. he has some distinguishing character ris ticks. he's missing a front took off the left side of his mouth. jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, jade. 8:34. pleasanton police have arrested a nebraska man for alleged child molestation. the man who was indicted in a federal child pornography case is facing local charges after police say he drove across state lines to sexually molest a 13-year-old california girl. a 35-year-old has been in the santa rita jail since july 30th, when he was pulled over at a traffic stop. for most state employees today is a furlough friday. the court ruled on wednesday,

furloughs can resume for 150,000 state employees because of the budget impasse. state offices that are closed today include, the dmv and the departments of public health and the department of fish and game. governor schwarzenegger has ordered workers to take not only today but also next friday off. he says also there should be a floating unbayed -- unpaid day before the end of august. critics say the governor should have known that welfare debit cards would work at atms and cases around the state. record the are showing the gambling control commission, apinted by the governor, new about that possibility back in 2006. welfare advocates want to find out why the governor didn't know sooner than last june when the l.a. times reported that story. the salmonella outbreak linked to the recall of millions of eggs will likely grow because illnesses through the past month have not been

evacuate but it looks like they will be -- they can stay home until now. at least 25 acres have burned. a livermore fire station near the city's airport has been closed because of -- because of budget cuts. the station closed and the three firefighters have been assigned to another fire station. they describe this as temporary and are working to another solution. the number of crimes committed at san francisco's main library is on the increase. during the year that ended in june, the library reported 38 assaults and 49 deaths. that's up compared to the year before. but the number of drug related incidents dropped this year from 43 to 33. the library has beefed up support and is working with counselors to help repeat

offenders. staffers add there's been a 0% increase in the number of people using the library. the san francisco city attorney is taking aim at a company that designs social networking games. zinga the company behind mafia wars and farmville is in hot water over a marketing stunt. it posted fake money on the street. the city says it's illegal and takes time to clean up this. hundreds of runners will lace up their running and walking shoes tomorrow for the 6th annual friends of faith breast cans cancer. this fund-raiser includes a five-k walk around lake merritt and oakland.
